you see the numbers on a corpse that might be important
you get notification about autopsies being available in the stats screen
you get a clear sentence that password is a six-number password (so that means no dashes, cos dashes are not fucking numbers) right before input box
It’s not your problem if people in a text-based game struggle with reading comprehension. And it comes from someone who has English as their second language
Yeah, I agree. The only hard thing for me was to remember the name. But one can just go through all autopsies and look for the number. For me my alarm bells imideatly rung when I read that they migh be important later, but I did not write it down as it was clear the autopsies files would be in the Stat Screen.
I really loved this so far! I especially enjoy the themes surrounding obsession generally, obsessive love / codependency, and seeing into characters who have somewhat unreliable perceptions. The concept is really interesting and I enjoy seeing the MC’s and Valerie’s personalities through their thoughts while alone and within their interactions with each other! It’s also fun to see others’ perceptions of their relationship, while the reader is aware of what both Valerie and the MC withhold from one-another.
I do agree with other readers that the switches in perspective between Valerie and the MC within the story can be a bit confusing at first to adapt to and I suggest possibly adding a line at the top of the page / before the “switch” that clarifies the POV such as “POV: You” and “POV: Valerie” OR even creating a title-card similar to what you may see in chapter books when they start each new chapter and instead using the character’s name or “You” (for MC’s perspective). I think you can do this by creating the image, and then inserting an image before the text, but admittedly don’t know a ton about the coding on here and hats off to you for doing such a good job the first time around! My play-through was super smooth even with all the extra integrations in the stats tab.
What about if you want to make it a bit more ambiguous?
So I say that, your idea is fine if you want to announce it, but if one wants it to be clear with context or later. (Like name drop etc.) I would purpose to also have an icon (image) just for a general POV switch. So you know it’s a different person but it’s not so clear right away.
(Something similar has the in-between, it’s has this eye image and (if I remember correctly… wait was the other not from Oh Mother Where Art Thou?)
That it says that the world slows down or speeds up. (Paraphrased)
Interesting game and interesting premise. I honestly like that the MC has a set personality and that there’s only one romance option.
As a player, I’m still given agency of how to respond to Val which I appreciate a lot. Cyberpunk isn’t a genre I normally step into, but I do like detective books. Will be keeping up with this one!
I guess I can use the excuse that we don’t have any other ROs because Val killed them haha
There’s nothing I love more then putting together my love of psychology, worldbuilding, and writting in the same place! (Who said college was for nothing?)
But anyway, thanks for reading! I had a blast doing this, and there’s more to come!
Since the beginning, I had a very specific vision in mind, one that I didn’t see a lot I guess.
Cyberpunk honestly wasn’t much of my style either haha.
But it fit well with the motifs of the story, and once I got to building the history of the city and how it worked, I came to appreciate the way the characters fit into it and were molded by it.
For the detective part, I liked doing the Bridge’s “interrogation” – it was almost kind of a tutorial for this system. You can fail to get the information (idk how much people did) or succeed by many different means actually. I had to think really hard for each different strategy, hahaha.
Even the phone, even if it was easy, I liked doing it – it gave me the feeling of actually being smart, hahaha.
Oooooo yes, you gave me a nice idea! I guess I now have to do a very quick “”“5min”“” coding adventure to actually know if I can implement it, hahaha. If I use an image for this, then my artistry will have to improve substantially before implementing it . I did the cover following a tutorial on youtube (I wanted to do something similar to give the evidence some images, but we will see).
Thanks for appreciating my code! Really! The stats tab was my small pride and joy! I really liked doing the profiles and extra lore stuff there.
And about the story, I really wanted a very specific feel for how Val and MC operate: those long-ass internal monologues about a certain view of the world, the murder sequence, the humor, the difference in how they act alone vs. out on the job. This scratches a lot of itches that I was wanting to see .
Loved the concept! I was attracted to the idea of a yandere RO, it is something that it is seriously lacking arround here, and after reading the demo, I am attracted to their dynamic. The only thing that didn’t convince me at first was the lack of stats, but the whole “strategy” part with the questioning convinced me you knew what you were doing
Can’t wait for this project to grow into something better. I hope you have a good development and maange to finish this
I’d like to congratulate you on creating something like this; it’s quite rare to find stories like this with a LI as the villain.
the personalities of both are very interesting and leave you wanting to know more about their past. The transitions between their points of view become smooth after a brief moment of uncertainty, and I love seeing the difference in their behavior inside and outside the house.
my mind is already creating theories ah, good writing!
Glad to see others got stuck on the password too. Anyway, finally a crazy ro that will love me to death. My honor, this is my wife therefore all murders were justified
Thank you so much for the kind words! I really loved working on this project in my free time, and I can’t wait to explore more of how this relationship came to be—but all in due time, haha!
I was writing Chapter 2 this month, and it is already as big as Chapter 1 (which starts when you leave the house).
I have a lot less free time with college now, but I think I am starting to find a rhythm with it.
The IF will probably double in size in the next update… I hope…
The dialogue is something that I am really enjoying writing, and I honestly like how every character is bouncing off each other while I write this chapter.
With time, of course, I hope to get a bit better in many areas, so I really appreciate everyone’s feedback.
I also can’t thank everyone enough for how positive this experience has been so far. Creating silly little stories really is my joy, so it fills me with happiness to see so many amazing and understanding people gathered in one place.
Fun fact: Did you know that I actually almost wrote a completely different plot from this one? It was about you being a fallen sun-god which was forced to live only at night after a heavenly war. In that story you had a loyal bodyguard who was the only one who didn’t abandon you – who promised to avenge your honor and restore your divine throne… yeah, Val had wings in that universe and you were basically a vampire.
Thank you a lot for giving this IF a chance! I guess it’s a very niche one, but one that I really wanted to read myself. I sure hope to finish this aswell, my heart always breaks when I find a gem of an IF only to see that it only has a single chapter and the last update was from years ago
