Mind Blind (01/31 Demo Update. A Story Where You Are NOT The Chosen One!)

Hm, I think you don’t get what I’m saying. I was saying since MC’s condition is so rare, if K was hearing MCs thoughts and believed that he could only hear her thoughts because she wanted him to. At least, initially.

Indeed. We’ve seen the MC get tailed by some random ments in the groceries, so much that the MC usually ask Nick to check if there’s no one “chilling in their mind” like it’s a usual thing when they arrived at home. K’s first reaction is quite “normal” in this universe, especially when Button is the only known person who has 0 on pollard. It’s a jerk-ish move, but it’s a believable first reaction.

Off the top of my head I dont think it’s possible for a low pol to project their thoughts. This is mostly because its said that high pols cant read their minds, it doesnt say that low pols are actively defending themselves.
Or I’m stupid
Both are possible
Something I just thought of was it being similar to how Nick has a resting brainrage meaning it cant just be turned off. Maybe the low pol defense works the same way.

It’s possible for the MC’s very first thought when they encounter K to literally be please don’t be able to read my mind (among other options with similar sentiments). It’s not possible for K to have both read such an MC’s mind and believed that they wanted them in there.

Selecting these options also has absolutely no impact on K’s behavior—not only do they not visibly react or respond, they still later offer the MC a ride, knowing this will keep them in K’s brainrange for the duration of the trip.

So either K wasn’t reading the MC’s mind at all—which, yes, isn’t consistent with what we’ve heard about empaths, and would imply that there’s something else going on here, e.g. the theory that some have proposed about K not being a Ment at all—or K knowingly breached the MC’s privacy even if they explicitly said in their mind that they weren’t comfortable with that, and then kept doing it when they could have let the MC leave in peace, and then later behaved like they had no inkling of what they could have possibly done wrong.

I personally see the latter as pretty far beyond being just a bit rude or insensitive—it shows a very deliberate lack of respect for boundaries that the MC can potentially set pretty quickly and explicitly—and I don’t want to believe that’s where the story is going with K’s character, nor do I think it’s congruous with the person K otherwise seems to be. I don’t know how I feel about the not-really-a-Ment theory (which opens up a lot of other questions), but there are strong implications that there’s some facet of this situation that we’re not aware of yet, which I’m assuming will shed some light on (and hopefully at least partially justify) K’s behavior.

Yes to all of this! I also think it’s important to remember that the MC’s situation is completely unique; there are no other Pollard Zeros that we, and by extension all registered research institutions in the Mind Blind world, know about. The breadth of research on mind blindness is literally one Button deep. So while it’s possible to predict what Ments can and can’t do based on the MC’s prior experiences, I can’t get too comfortable with the conclusions the MC draws within the story, especially since they will likely be meeting many new people with unique and fascinating mind powers later on.

I think it’s important to remember that the only reason we think that EVERY Ment can access our thoughts is because the MC thinks so and doctors haven’t offered any evidence to the contrary. We take it for granted like it has to be true, but does it?

Now that’s…true. I think Jo has hinted somewhere that Button’s narrative is kinda unreliable…
How sus

Button might be an unreliable narrator, and the author might be an unreliable author.

Found a couple more typos.

Precogs like Sally can’t access Button’s thoughts, iirc.

As for other types of Ments, it’s easy to prove something that happens, but proving something not happening…that’d probably be tricky.

Ohh Goood so i loved it… It is very deeply, touchingly sad tho. Call me a crybaby but it literally got me weeping when Mc heard Nick in his mind in the end…like he’s such a precious character and i can’t bear losing him already, please don’t break my rainbow soul to a hundred and one pieces :disappointed_relieved::purple_heart:

I gave my best friend the link to the game so now I’m (impatiently) waiting for her to play it and see her reaction.

@starfan013 Thanks for sharing Mind Blind! I hope your friend likes it.

@fabulist I owe you my first seven born children at this point. Thank you so much for catching all those typos! I think I fixed them all, but I sometimes forget to save in Notepad before exiting -_-

Also! Y’all, I’ve been reading the K discussions and biting my tongue so hard that it’s practically bleeding. I’m really not good at keeping secrets! Even my own! I can’t say anything, like “Don’t worry, K isn’t a monster”, for fear of what I say being a spoiler! So, just to be suitably vague . . . maybe K IS a monster. Since “monster” is a subjective term and all.

I’m getting a lot of enjoyment reading everyone’s speculations, though

K better not be a monster because I am in love with them already :sob:

Is it weird that K just reminds me of Shang from Mulan, maybe it’s because I watched Mulan right before I first played/read Mind Blind but their mannerisms are similar in my head?? Like they just line up perfectly?? Who does K remind of you, character wise?

Seeing more of Lev was interesting. I’m curious how much he’ll be present throughout.

I say this and I would say it again: I don’t trust anyone but Annie and Cass.

I haven’t played this demo since a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised about those wink and nudges in the begging, prior to that I only chalked the bathroom scene as MC being their quirky self lol. Also very happy at they gray scene, I smell that sweet sweet semi-angsty mutual oblivious pining and who I am to deny that? Though seeing that rosy meter go up still makes me go all pavlovian, don’t worry rosy mc will be a good little agent (unless…mayhaps he will grow to appreciate a lil troublemaker?)

I have been officially confused. I’m probably being a massive idiot here but… uh… who’s Lev?

Edit: Nevermind, I really am an idiot. Don’t mind me.

Chicken sacrifices are an acceptable substitute, though the poultry-human exchange rate can run a bit high.

Also: I like Lev. The side and minor characters who show up have personality–like that guard at the hospital. Touches like that are really great.
