Didn’t the author say at the core this story isn’t a drama/tragedy and it won’t go too dark, though? 
It would certainly be interesting for MCs like mine though - or well, to at least try doing it, even if another character prevents it.
But it may make a lot of people too unconfortable so I dunno?
