The writer support thread is a low-pressure, low-judgement space to talk about writing, share our progress and ask for feedback or questions. Thank you again to everyone who participates in these threads and helping to support each other.
If anyone wants to participate in a feedback exchange, or simply have your WIP listed under the regular showcase, do let me know. (Or you can simply edit this post yourself)
WIPs (Feedback Exchange)
The following writers have expressed interest in a feedback exchange agreement for their project. Feel free to reach out to each other and make arrangements. That said, even if you don’t have a project of your own, you are welcome to check out these projects and offer feedback as well.
I will also be featuring some WIP threads here. Please feel free to take a look and provide feedback (or even just leave a comment) if you have the time. Feel free to comment or reach out if you want yours added to the list. (If I missed anyone out, please let me know.
Let me know if you want your WIP here or add it yourself.
Resource Sharing
We have some pretty thought provoking discussions on how to market your games.
Anything else?
That’s all. Feel free to reach out to me if you want anything added.
As with my last thread, I’ll make this post a wiki. If anyone wants to add their WIPs to the feedback exchange, or to the feedback request without an exchange, you may edit this post and add it in yourself. (But you can also ask me to add it too.)
Been making slow decent progress last month. Hopefully by the end of this onr I can reach my goal of finally pushing out an update.
Ive also been reading a lot of the new works recently and its given me a bit of a push to see so many get such good progress. So hopefully others similarly get such a push for todays month.
Goal last month was to finish my second screenplay. And that was…successful! A few hours ago I finished the first draft. 111 pages, so definitely going to need some trimming.
Now I am taking a week or two off, and working on my alternate history short story collection. How long for that? Not sure. Maybe a couple months. We’ll have to see. Never written anything that long outside of IF before.
Please add my WIP, The Rise of Cthulhu, to the showcase. The prologue through Chapter 3 are finished, though Chapter 4 should also be added in a week or so, and I think it’s enough for a good demo now. Unfortunately, I’m going to miss my goal of finishing writing Chapter 4 by the end of the month. I almost made it, but I was just too busy today. I should be able to complete it tomorrow, but it’s going to take me some time to test it. It has over 11k words so far. I haven’t had any feedback on Chapter 3 yet, so I would appreciate that, as well as feedback on Chapter 4 after it goes live, and on the earlier parts. People may want to wait until Chapter 4 is uploaded before starting, as that will most likely invalidate saves.
In May, I plan to write most of Chapter 5, though I may not finish it by the end of the month. I do expect to have more time, as my Tuesday nights are now free, but I do plan to beta test something in the middle of the month, and I have a convention at the end.
Last month I completed my goal so, this month, why mess with what works: 24/31 writing days.
Content wise I’ve got a big checklist to complete so I’ll see how much of that I can get done. I’ve got 22 tasks to complete so if I do one per day I’m on track with a bit of time to spare.
I’m still plodding away at the behemoth that is Chapter Nine of BotL. My goal this month, though it may be a bit of a stretch, is to finish it. Six scenes is quite a lot, especially when they’re all rather long and substantive, but I think perhaps I can do it. We’ll see how I go.
Good luck to everyone this month, whatever you’re working on.
I used to be on here a long time ago, and I hope to reignite my passion for writing. But my goal for May is:
To revive my old WIP, Corruptant and have a release for it by the end of the month, not just as a copy of itself but with noticeable changes that make it more than what it was supposed to be. Tbf, at the time my vision for it at the time was… well there wasn’t really any.
My next update for Edges of Winter will be Chapter 1 which will hopefully happen in May. This should take the player up to their first ever race, which will be interesting to get feedback on, as the mechanics are reused for every race.
I’m being hopeful I can finish part B in 20k. I mean, I should as it is a universal scene, but we’ll see.
But, I also heard from some crit readers that they wanted the ability to initiate romance with Ostric after his chapter 3 scene. I’ve written the option in, but now I’m having to update the later scenes he appears in. So that’s two in chapter 2 (one of which is minor) and two much larger scenes in chapter 4. Weaving that in is taking me away from writing part B. (Part B is primarily a large ensemble scene, so I admit I’m being very easily taken…)
My April goal was to finish a round of revisions on Chapter 2 of Iron King’s Heir and instead I barely touched the code a short story deadline came up that I wanted to make so I’ve been working hard on that instead, and it’s taking a lot longer than I wanted.
At least I’m working out some really important character and plot details in the process.
My May goal is to finish that in time to finish revising the next scene in IKH.
Howdy everyone! First time officially joining one of these threads.
My goals for May will be to:
Finish the initial draft of chapter 1.
Keep up my weekly 14.000 words.
(Bonus) Implement the character creation segment.
My biggest priority is finishing up chapter 1 so I can start the editing process during next month. I got quite a bit more than I’d expected done during April, so I’m pretty confident I’ll have completed the chapter sometime in the middle of this month, but who knows? Things can always go wrong. I’m pretty excited to add more flavor text and options I have planned for the different ‘perks’ the player character can choose at the start.
First time I’m writing in one of these threads, but I’ve been plodding along with a WIP for a while now. Well, I’ve mostly been spinning my wheels for a while.
I’m hoping that I’ll finally be able to finish chapter 1 and put it out this month.
Write 35k words by the end of May. Complete either the full next chapter or part of it and some smaller thematic vignettes. Already wrote chapters about depression and repression. This next one is about aggression. Sorta losing a little bit of the noir aspect since we’re going to a small town within Central Park and doing something like a werewolf thing. But really we probably lost the noir aspect around the time the protagonist has to fight a calcified maggot ridden man that’s been mutated to look like a chess piece, so whatever.
Good luck to everyone this month. Remember to be kind to yourself.
Chapter 4 is done, it’s just not finished. I’ll have to test it and fix any issues I find over the next week or so before I upload it. It clocks in at over 12k words (longer than Chapter 1, but shorter than 2 and 3), for a grand total of over 65.8k words so far. I missed my self-imposed deadline by about 18 hours, similar to last month, but that’s not too bad.
It’s the beginning of another month, and I need to share some great news.
The fourth episode of Lily Adventuresses! will be formally included in a local game development mentorship and funding program, and one huge requirement is to submit a game design document that explains most of the story, some of the gameplay (since RPG Maker 2000 has simple mechanics when compared to newer RPG Maker versions), and plans for a commercial version. I’ve already submitted a meaty GDD that does just that, and now I’ll wait until all the paperwork is cleared so I can continue development hopefully this month.
