Lords of Aswick - Out Now!

so depending on our main characters choices and this game we could be playing as the Lady/Countess of Aswickdale…nice.

So is MC in Voice of God a male still but depend on are choice as the Night priest/voice of God could allow for a female head of family if I am understanding correctly in the third book?

No, the MC is only female.

So if I’m understanding correctly we are playing as a woman being sent to the clery. That’s going to be interesting for my question is how do we break the social barrier and gain the crown of the church or whatever it’s called in this world. Without it breaking immersion because I’m damn well interested to see this, that would be some serious reform on top of the fact you have to get a patriarchal society to give the thumbs-up to that.

My question is how do we end up with the crown of the Holy Father.

Can we play as an intellectual nun?
One, my first MC’s (ultimately) highest stat was nobility. I would like that to be a family trait.
Two, the path has historical precedence (Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, Hildegard of Bingen), and gives the second MC plenty of opportunities to break societal barriers, earn recognition and get caught up in life-altering scandals .

The route you so say more highly plausible. Even though I would love to see the role of the holy father become the holy mother but it has to be done plausible in the in game universe. Unless there is a different route of power we have a different engine stand through the official offices of the church. He only gave us so much information about the church so for all we know there could’ve been Holy mother. But still if it’s based on the papacy as in real life if a woman takes office of a man as you see in China with the Emperor or or Theodora of Athen men will flip a shit. Remind you of those societies you have to be pretty ruthless to get there normally. Would it be something even more strange Where she is the female Holy Father, I would love to see the enclave for that election:grin::relaxed:

Well @Goshman is there any chance that MC in book 2 is male ?

I’m not @Goshman , but I don’t think so.

A small pencil sketch of what I imagine the second MC to look like.
I think I will call mine Marguerite after her great-great-great grandmother

So it does make me curious is the priesthood Egalitarian or is it patriarchical but allows for the intellectual cultivation of their female priests. Doing still allowing them to break away from many of the norms of secular patriarchal society. I’m really curious to see how it executed.

Or we are nun that can become the power behind the throne of the holy father or our own King.

Or can we become our own Pope Joan. Do you reach the highest pinnacle of the church hierarchy. Will you be the Holy Father keeping the title masculine even if it’s hold my woman.

Or something more plausible if it existence like a Princesss Abbess. In RL some Abbey where so powerful thier head where defacto feudal Lords and power broker. Especially if there were Charismatic and intellectuals.

I’m looking at the lore of the first game right now it looks very patriarchal. But still all hail Papa Joan!! Maybe we could crown are son cough cough nephew Prince of Enotria.

Would someone mind sending me a link for Urban’s guide to High Chancellorship? It seems that the link on Goshman’s website isn’t working for me.

While the second book does seem to be interesting, women of the era weren’t really as interesting to me so I’ll more than likely skip the second book, since I was also not a fan of the religious aspect either XD. I tended to find the subject a tad boring for me since the clergy was not something that kept me interested; save maybe the crusades. I adored women of Ancient Rome and Feudal Japan, they seemed to have a fair bit more women in places of power other than religion… So, I’ll be skipping this book and will more than likely settle for the standard choices come the third book. Still, wish for the 2nd book’s success none the less, and here’s hoping we can have a “Joan of Arc” in the sense of our MC having some more of a military presence… kinda like the Onna Bugeisha of Japan. Idk… I just never found myself too interested when it came to women in Medieval Europe…

Brother it’s the opposite of boring so give it a college to try plus there’s no Intrigue like church intrigue. Plus I so want to be Papa Joan!

My degree was in Classical Medieval Renaissance Studies, so… I studied pretty extensively in the religious aspects of the three eras and still have the same thought process of… it’s a boring subject. No matter how you paint it, it was never something that interested me nor has it still, despite all I know about the subject. Overall, I’m not willing to put myself through such an experience again, more so having done so for 5 years XD. For now, I’ll stick with my military history stuff. Nice try though!

I’m a guy that personally study history extensively and academically. Maybe it’s personal taste thing but I got over the blood and guts when I was about 17. Maybe it’s my love for social history. But my friend how do you study classical history and not love every facet of it!? I hope I’m not sounding rude I just find it shocking that’s all. Brother trust me anything can be interesting how I can make it interesting game about the early conversion of the Germanic tribes by the Saxons missionaries.:expressionless: least a mechanically interesting I’m not a good writer.

And again not to be that at read but I can read battle and I’ll be falling asleep. It’s not the battle itself but the results and interest me. Feel like the intricacies and theological philosophical differences in church drama are a lot my a lot more interesting. Because that is Origins to as nany conflicts as who sleeping with who the turns into the convoluted land grab inheritance of the early High Medieval ages. And brother I don’t know if you even peek at the game yet. So maybe wait a little bit until it’s more developed and give it a shot. Because if you’re like me you love history not just for the grand sweeping narrative but the personal drama of the individuals. And as well if you like a writer you will most likel thier writing so it will most likely enjoy anything they write.

we were talking about the Medieval ages this is a period of time when Bishops and monks we were full-blown as powerful as secular Lords that led armies:neutral_face::expressionless:

You clearly did not have a professor who taught you about the nuns who fought literal wars against each other, hiring mercenaries and everything. :stuck_out_tongue:

But sure, your choice and everything. I think the second game has plenty of potential, and I doubt it will ever turn boring. I mean, the author is not writing a historical source about the day-to-day life of a medieval nun. It will be interesting because the author is writing it that way.

Lol just how it is man, you were in love with the social and religious histories while I was in love with the political, dynastic, and military history of the ancient/classical, medieval, and renaissance eras. But yeah, totally respect and love that you guys like the type of history, and I won’t try to change that view point either rather I encourage more since theres always something new to learn… But for me myself I’m just that type of historian that was good at and passionate about the above. Just how I am XD. I mean I’ve had a lot of good profs but when your not interested in a subject you don’t do well at it. Plus… I’m one guy out of thousands of thousands of possible readers so my stance and interests shouldn’t matter much… I mean I am an Oddball.

Again though, I do still support the writer and whole heartedly wish for his second books success. He’s a talented writer (why I’ve bought most of his IntFic’s) but for now I’ll just wait on the 18th-19th century work of his.

I can bet money a really big fan of Crusader Kings 2 and Mount and Blade. Anything to see brother I do love all the dynastic struggle the inter fighting the evolution of titles etc. Maybe this is how I know my interest range I took a class in the Civil War that was great but I was more interested reading the end results of battles in the actual battle the origins of the war that different ideologies why people thought what was daily life like etc. I mean literally I just bought a two books on the rise of medieval cities and the social and economic history of the late Middle Ages. On a completely off-topic note I would love to see a game through Viewpoint of the average individual during the Thirty Years War.

Thats cool man, I hope you eventually get to play such a game in the future, everyone has things they want. Like me liking games like Sabers and Guns of Infinity; though it would be cool to see a game that allows you to pick your gender set during this time period… Golden Eagle! Lol. But yeah, cool to hear you’re into that stuff man, hopefully we all get to study and play the things we enjoy and or are good at :).

Finished the game once, loved it. I have some questions:

How can a woman give a birth at age 60 past menopause? Including my parents women in this game seem to give birth at quite a late age even compared to modern standard.

Also when I supported princess Augustine and made her a queen, I objected her city plan and she confiscated my lands and wealth, had me thrown in an oubliette to starve to death. I know she is a bitxx but beside that is it even possible for a monarch in feudalism to do something as drastic as this to her privy counsel member and a meritorious vassal without causing great anger and discontents among her vassals? Why did all of the other privy counsel members and nobles watch and do nothing as their feudal rights are violated and stomped before them? If the queen illegally executes her privy council member who merely opposed her plan, it should be crystal clear to other nobles that she would do far worse to lesser nobles who displease her in a smallest disagreement. I think realistically speaking, nobles would stand against the queen at that point for crossing the line. I could see her dismissing me from the council at worst but what Augustine did and nobles abided by left me dumbfounded.

I am a bit surprised by nobles’ passiveness with reforms, too; why, of all people in a feudal society, do majority of nobles go along with Augustine’s reform and relinquish land rights and power voluntarily? Shouldn’t they oppose the change? Why would medieval feudal lords support emancipation of serfs?

In addition, shouldn’t the changes take a lot longer than one generation, like over centuries? Societal changes in this game happens way too fast, way too smoothly in my opinion. One enlightened monarch can’t just push the changes at will without social and technological foundations developed over time that allow the changes to happen in the first place.

I wonder if Lord High Constable is the highest position you can reach in the game, and if 63 is the longest lifespan you can have in the game.

How do I win the second tournament? I raised my martial whenever a clear option presented to 86% but I always lose.

Lastly, does Lucia always poison you if you do not support nobles in the civil war? I can’t seem to be able to survive her.

If that’s the kind of thing you’re into, you should look into Kingdom Come: Deliverance. It comes out in February of next year.

From Wikipedia: "Kingdom Come: Deliverance takes place in the Kingdom of Bohemia, part of the Lands of the Bohemian Crown and modern-day Czech Republic. Specifically, Act 1 is based on the real-world area between Sázava and Rataje nad Sázavou. The game begins in 1403.

The old king has died and his heir lacks the power to secure his throne. The new king’s brother seizes this opportunity to kidnap the king and pillage his lands, seeking his own advancement. The mentioned kings being the historical figures Charles IV, Wenceslaus IV and Sigismund.

The game will follow the son of a blacksmith, whose family has been killed by the invading army. The protagonist seeks revenge and will ultimately strive to restore the rightful ruler to the throne and order to the land."

Lots of emphasis on realism and a game world that reacts in a believable manner to the player’s action.
