Hi all, I sent off my publishing application of a 60,000 word interactive fiction on 29/6/2020.
It is now exactly 30 days later.
I have been informed that it may take a while longer to receive my contract and game review, as there are a few games ahead of me in the queue.
I have already sent off nearly all the art, the screenshot scenes, credits, ratings and blurbs.
How much longer should I expect to be waiting? The staff have been very helpful I just would like to know as she said she could not give me an estimate.
Unfortunately, like @KaiDeleon wrote to you, it’s going to be a little while. Your game hasn’t had its content reviewed, we don’t send a contract until that’s complete. That means someone is going to read your game in its entirety, and look for issues with the content. At that point, if there are issues, we may have edits for you.
We don’t have all your assets, so we can’t begin submission of your game to any platforms. We still need correct promo art cuts from you, a trial end point so that purchase code can be inserted.
But the assets aren’t actually relevant to what will add time to this process, that’s the content review. That is not complete, and AFAIK has not even begun.
There is also a line ahead of you, and that’s the main thing. It would be so great if we could just publish a game a month after we get it, but there are seven games that are currently in our Hosted Games submission and production queue. Four of those were submitted in June, yours was the fifth submitted in June. The rest were submitted in the spring of this year, and some of them are nearing publication now.
When @KaiDeleon says she doesn’t know how long it will take to get you release date, she means it. There are too many factors at play.
A game’s release date is like the Mars mission: we know we’ll land a man on Mars, we don’t know what day it’s going to be yet.
If you’re looking for a ballpark estimate: it’ll take us 4-6 months to publish your game. Perhaps that was what you were looking for the forum community to give you, some kind of guess. But I promise you the best answer will come from our production assistant, Kai. It’s her job, and she does it really well, and no one’s trying to jerk you around. We really don’t know when your game will be published.
Thanks for replying so soon, BTW I wasn’t trying to downplay Kai, she has been super helpful,
I appreciate the estimate, I just had absolutely no idea of the time frame. A week? 2 years? It’s good to have an idea of how long it’ll take.
Thanks again, Fionn
