Will it be possible at all to win 2 events?

Given how the tournament will also make people an royal knights, in both a fictional sense and a realistic one, being an untested very recently knighted knight, it would only be possible to win 2 if your incredibly good, sense not only must you faces off against other like you, but most likely the best knights who haven’t sworn them selves to a master yet just to be able to become an royal knight

Sir Garreth says that with low guile/perception I won’t be able to thrive in the court.

But does high intellect and charisma make up for the lack of guile and perception?

One would think.
Sure, you’d never be popular, but at least no one can say you’re wrong about things where it matters. There’s a good chance an MC like that would probably be viewed as a useful tool for fact/info regurgitation, more than a resource that can guide an issue for general betterment.

At least if things like ā€œintrigueā€ actually factor into the narrative. There’s plenty of cases where it is touted, but doesn’t actually figure in because other facets of a story’s plot were viewed as more interesting.

I’m talking about about a intellectually charismatic knight.

How can low guile and perception make me unpopular?

The writer has stated that there will be branching paths, so I assume the court will be in one of those.

This is assuming that my charisma as well and facts and logic won’t help in swaying nobles upon some matters.

I’ll grant you that. I was more speaking in terms of advanced political maneuvering than anything else, but it doesn’t cover the part where characters like ā€œhimbosā€, or ā€œblunt, a-hole geniousesā€ are popular in their own ways. Generally, though, if you can’t sell your honesty as just that (one of IF’s biggest narrative contradictions, imo) characters in-universe won’t believe you for even a second. It would literally be an issue of mechanical limitations. That’s all I’m saying here.

My remark there was an oblique generalization. Surface deep, since this one has barely started, and we don’t know how it will develop.

Either way, I feel that due to mechanical limitations or something of the sort, I’ll be able to succeed in some if not most court matters given my charisma and intellect.

Sir Gareth was deliberately being a wet blanket because he’s just kind of a pessimist by nature. He wants you to take the safe and secure offer that your uncle has lined up for you. That said, he does raise a good point.

A low perception MC has difficulty paying attention to finer details or reading the emotions of others.

A low guile MC has difficulty lying or getting ahead through underhanded means.

Both of these weaknesses are pretty bad in an environment where people commonly deal in lies or half-truths. But both of those weaknesses specifically only apply if you actually try to engage with court intrigues. Which someone in your position is not really expected to do unless, say, you are granted a posting in the royal household.

Even then, these weaknesses can be offset by other things. A high intellect MC is well-read and well-informed on a wide array of topics, while a high charisma MC is very charming and likeable. You might not be good at reading the emotions of others or at actually lying, but you’re the sort of person who is good at making friends and not only has a lot of knowledge, but also has the social skills to express that knowledge with eloquence and charm.

There is value in that.

Just to make you aware, Dashingdon hosting will be closing soon so I would recommend moving this to cogdemos or uploading a compiled html file:

Quick progress update:

I’ve not made a lot of progress on Chapter 3, as the variance and different ways it can go have me stumped. In hindsight I probably shouldn’t have attempted something so ambitious when it’s my first WIP and I don’t have much experience coding choicescript.

That said, it is getting done. Hopefully within a week.

When it’s done I’ll upload it and the rest of the WIP on cogdemos instead of dashingdon, as that site is closing down.

Hell yeah boss man. Keep up the good work and take your time with it. There’s no rush and we’ll all be waiting regardless of how long it takes.

Did that old human empire have nuclear weapons, left over from an even older civilization or something? Because that cataclysm sounds suspiciously like, well…

That is a possibility, considering the author’s profile picture (Lion El’Jonson) the cataclysm might have been inspired by Warhammer 40k’s order of mass destruction, to end all life on a world: Exterminatus.

Nuclear weapons? No.

An extremely potent and powerful artifact that could destroy entire cities and armies? Yes.

Did this artifact cause or was some way involved in the cataclysm? Probably, but everyone who was present along with half the continent was incinerated so nobody really knows. The thing is, the artifact had never been shown capable of unleashing power on a continental scale before, even if it was extremely powerful.

I thoroughly enjoyed the update.

I don’t know who tried to assassinate the crown prince but I am highly suspicious of the Queen’s blood oath. I feel like she’s gonna use it as an opportunity to wage war against one of the neighbors. I don’t think she orchestrated it, but I do think it’s an internal matter rather than external.

Also I’m looking forward to a potential rivalry with the cowardly Lithmari.
