Kingdom of Regalia

“They proceed to say they will lie only to tell the truth, thus ultimately lying. Again,”

Help me understand what you mean here. You can’t lie to tell the truth in a manner of speaking. A lie always isn’t true or isn’t a lie. The truth is true or it isn’t the truth.

So this isn’t computing for me. Are you talking about them lying but in a way were they try to expose the truth? Like for example they know some one is bad but they lie and slander to try and expose how bad they are but for the real reasons?

So they lie to serve the real truth?

Or like half truths? But those are usually used to conceal information to deceive or be secretive not further the truth.

I haven’t played the demo yet so maybe It’ll make more sense then but I’m intrigued.

Edit: Playing the demo I get it. They say the opposite of what they mean but tell you they tell only lies so you figure out what the opposite of what they say is the truth so in a way they do tell the truth but by lying. For magic powers. Lol I like it.

They fall in love with you if you reach the maximum respect level. As it says on the Information page, it goes like this:

Low - Neutral - High - Love (maxed out respect)

I suppose you can call some of the interactions flirting, though!

I’m glad you like it/get it! It’s written like that to serve multiple purposes. First of all, it is written like that in part so that the reader understands. Since the greater details of Erebus and his powers are not yet known to the MC, if I just had Soon and Null lie outright, readers would think it’s just opposite day lol, not that they’re doing it to access divine power.

Second, it’s to prevent long stretches of narrative in which the person playing would have to think in opposites (e.g., one of the Tongues, Trite-Tongued Pekka, tells stories but prefaces them with “Know this/these falsehoods” before telling the story “truly”).

You are correct about truth value. The value of their statements as true/false aren’t being determined by manner of speaking but rather syntax and context. As I was saying to Retrovirus, this has to do with how the Onyx Curse works.

“My tongue shall carry lies: [true statements]” = 1 unit that is false, as they are not actually telling lies. Unit? How are the limits of a statement demarcated? If a character pauses for two seconds, is it a separate unit? What if they yawn in the middle? Lol. The answer to questions like these are in the next chapter.

Before I write that, I ought to finish the prologue, though…

Both you and Retrovirus are sharp. Half truths are involved in the mythology of Erebus and Zion as well as the spawning of tawltaels. That’s all I’ll say for now!
