Keeper of the Sun and Moon (Discussion)

Yup. Every option with italic text is just control magic. So the MC needs some willpower points to use them.

@poison_mara
Added ruder refusal for coffee and ritual. Thanks!

@Elseguard
I’ll see if I can implement that in the sequel! Thanks for the idea!

@Cowra
That looks lovely!!! Would it be possible to post this on the game’s Tumblr (obviously giving you credit and such)?

@Deerchild
I’ve never watched/read The Magicians. Most inspiration probably came from the Harry Potter series, which I fell in love with when I was younger.

Their conversation has four variations based on how MC reacts to being at Magi when talking to Castella.

Don’t play as human.

Naturally, which is why I noted in the spoiler text that I understand why the things are the way they are, but it still sucks. I was just providing general feedback, it wasn’t a huge thing that stopped me from playing (I went through it three times, and I plan on more after all).

That is about the only time you can, sadly. Other Control options can cause a character to temporarily pause, but they still override your control in the end. Which makes sense, since having Jaime not steal the Nymph artifact would basically break the story, but many of the choices where you can use control options are story options where you can only ‘fail’. If there were ways to use your Control abilities outside these specific story-necessitated losses, such as with the Hellhounds, then it would feel more useful. I think the only spot you use it at is the Nova Director, but Seraphina can just do it for you so there is little point. In the end, I nearly died to Reyna because I could only use Control magic effectively and it didn’t do anything. While with Elemental Manipulation I just kinda snoozed through it.

Right now, I’m going to redo my playthrough as a Fighter before commenting further. As Elseguard said, I figured Fighting = Punch so when it failed multiple times I was kinda annoyed. Knowing now that isn’t the intention, I can explore alternative options that might make the playthrough smoother. In regards to Control, I put a lot of my criticisms with it in the above spoilertext, but regards to fixing… It’s hard to write extra options because using Control on people is a big no-no in the world (Though the Nymphs are immune to such a law since they kinda invade your privacy multiple times, maybe their abilities are always-active and they have no choice). I haven’t had much time in the jobs aside from the Monster one, but maybe more chances to use your Control over non-sentient things? Like in the Animal Care job you can use your Control to calm the Manticore allowing you to finish it quickly and do your other job easily as well, allowing you to complete both tasks (Perhaps with some kind of bonus to money or something). I would imagine some of the other clubs and other miscellaneous activities have similar situations where you can use Control magic to help.

Erm… I’m having trouble just deciding what to be… and I’m not even at the point where I’m supposed to choose.
Is there any particular power difference between the races and a superpower or magical ability associated with each one or will this all be explained to me later?
Spoilers are welcome

Edit: P.S. I’m leaning towards Nephilim.

I could be wrong but I think you’re supposed to fail most of the fights. The only instances you have in the game where you can fight and win is against the drake in the exam, and Reyna’s hellhounds near the end.
Every other fight is written as either a group effort, or something your character has to lose to progress the story.

I had 43 in fighting with my hunter character and still had the same win/loss ratio as a character with low fighting. Albeit with the characters with low fighting ability I opted not to punch them.

^That’s what my stats were endgame

I feel you. The pain of that choice… In the end I went with ice elemental for my main MC bc that was the first race I tried when played the wip back then.
So many posts been created since then so idk anymore who asked about who our favorite ROs are, but atm I’m leaning more towards Seraphina or Cressy (sorry Thalia, but you are still cool) after reading the games Tumblr page.

Summary

In our first conversation with Yakov, asking him about his powers or his past life will decrease his relationship. Asking him about his life increases his emotion stat, though it should still be possible to raise the emotion stat high enough by the time Chapter 11 comes around (I usually do it out of habit-- it was actually much harder to raise his emotion stat in the beta version of the game). Asking him about the differences between cambions and wraiths will increase his relationship.

I’m pretty sure “But what if my reason’s sitting opposite me?” is available if your opinion of the magic world is negative. I remember you can set the necessary variable by saying “A bit of time? My whole life was torn apart because of this!” during species selection.

I don’t know if you caught this yet but in chapter 12 when you try to break out of the cuffs by having high ritual magic you put in *if (elemental >= 15) instead of *if (elemental < 20) and (elemental >= 15), which is making the health drop more than it should be.

Thanks for going into more detail… I see where you’re coming from better, and I agree in part, though I still have a different conclusion overall, which I realize may be a matter of taste.

I do think that scene transitions in general are an area that could use some further growth and development, though I do believe that Daydreamsincolor’s skills in this area have been improving. I see this mainly as a matter of pacing and working on the overall flow, though. I don’t think it’s a result of the large number of ROs, as I feel that they have a good amount of individualized material within their scenes.

It’s a tradeoff, I suppose. I kind of like all the characters anyway, so I didn’t mind so much, and I also see it as realistic—characters form their own friendships, which makes them feel realer, and it often happens in real life that if you want to spend time with one person, you may have to decide if you also want to spend time with someone else you dislike—but I understand why you could find that frustrating.

As for stats, I haven’t played since the beta so I don’t feel qualified to comment yet.

I’m half expecting Katia to say “I haven’t seen a fantasy movie, but they sound nice.”

Cute! :smile:

Oh, yeah, he seemed pretty awkward and nervous about asking the main character out, which I found endearing, but yeah, he didn’t seem like he had a great deal of confidence or experience in that department.

I find him very cute :blush:

I didn’t get his clues like i am a direct person so I romance him by accident TWICE . That is my fault for being clumsy. But that makes me feel paranoid when kol is around … I am afraid Say hello means marriage for Kol . lol EPIC FAIL

Yay, more Cressy love :raised_hands:

Thank you for your suggestions!

@Dwise
Thanks for posting your stats! It’s very helpful for knowing where stat checks should be for next game.

@Djin
Thanks for pointing that out, it’s been fixed for the next round of edits.

Agree wholeheartedly (and thank you!). Again, if there are any cutaways that felt especially abrupt, please let me know and I’ll see if I can fix it.

Please tag spoilers! :joy:

Thanks for pointing this out, I’ve added a link to the original post.

May i ask, if MC didn’t manage to romance an RO in Book 1, for example Astrid or Seraphina, will they be given a 2nd chance to do so in Book 2 ? :slight_smile:

I was just thinking the scenario, where MC decline Astrid’s advance initially with a hope to romance Sera… but didn’t manage to do that, especially IF Sera was mad for MC being knock off by the Hydra Hence, will Astrid return to comfort MC later on , and give MC another chance to accept her ? Or will MC be given chance to attract Sera again ?

Well… i am sure we could always replay to get to the best scenario we desire , but i am thinking of the story mode , where we could have a different flow of story if we fail previously …
Like the case of Astrid, i think it will make a good ( but perhaps controversial story ) when MC go back to her when he/she fail to attract Seraphina , like is Astrid that kind of character who is kind enough to give MC a 2nd chance when she knows MC’s first choice wasn’t her ? Or if MC consider selfish if he/she only return to Astrid when they don’t ,make progress with their first choice RO ? :slight_smile:

In most drama, this is actually a dilemma face by the protagonist , where he/she had to "maneuver " between the best friend or the best romance interest , which could actually make the story attractive , i understand in an IF game, where readers can always replay to be “Loyal” to one person from start to end , but i kind of feel that it lack the “realistic” element if a person want to experience the drama of life , the sort of real life experience where when we make a wrong turn , we are giving chance to rectify it in future , instead of replay it to make a "correct: choice :slight_smile:

So, I don’t know if this has been pointed out already, but some weird stuff happens on Halloween when romancing Katia:

Anyway, I’m usually a lurker, but I just wanted to say that this has been one of my absolute favorite IFs for a while, and I’m looking forward to book 2!

I agree overall if you probably were to add up all of a character’s scenes with the MC, but not in each individual scene as its usually the one question dealio and then a quick cut to something else until whenever the next time you manage to get a solo scene with them.

I’ll have to take your word on how the author’s skills improved since unfortunately I didn’t follow the game at all before so all I can speak on is the final release that I bought, but thats awesome to hear.

Frustrated isn’t really how I feel about that, it was more of thinking from the perspective of a type of character I might play. Like I said before, I (the player) really like the characters overall, maybe not every quality about them, but the way they are written. But, Aveline Elseland the drakaina (one of my MCs) only tolerates dealing with certain people and down right hates others. I don’t doubt if a player plays their MC as themselves, they will have no problem with being around all the characters if they like them as you said. I guess poison_mara has/had a similar situation to this in their posts about their character hating Kol but still having to interact with him even though they plan to be friends with him on another playthrough.

Also relationships between characters is totally fine, but personally if I was in that situation, I would let the two people have their own time but make plans to get together later which you don’t get a chance to do here. But, again thats just me.

Has anyone been able to do a Sera Hunter romance? I’ve tried multiple times and it hasn’t gone well. Closest I’ve gotten is 58%
