It seems you and I have rather different definitions of wanting to get to know attractive people on a superficial level.
I think the problem here is that you only see him as a pretty face
they’re exciting, so he wants to get to know them.
He wants to get to know them. The relationship starts of superficial but read it again

he really grows to care for them later.
Although, the author has said that anything NSFW is up for the reader to imagine. So you could be right in your own way

I thought of a good joke, similar to the celestial blade from book 1. Add a relationship stat for briseis that just doesn’t increase, no matter what people do.

True, but while Thalia and Kol ask the MC out, it’s not as…blunt as Astrid and Leon. Though Kol, bless him, fumbles into it. I think there’s a scene after finding out the species but before the ball that the MC can ask him out, however. (He’s as graceful then as ever.) Thalia is a little smoother—she throws out a line and lets the MC pick it up if they want.
Leon’s entire thought process, on the other hand, was evidently, “F*** it. Date? Yes? Cool, bye.”

I played as a bisexual MC once and Astrid was the first one to ask me out but I rejected her and literally not even two scenes after that Leon asked me out and I… rejected him too

Yeah, true. They’re like the chaotic duo. But to be honest, Leon’s bluntness is what made me really like him as a character.
He’s adorable and I love him.
