January 2026 Writer Support Thread

There was also the passenger but it was more so focused on the human elements since it was from an eldrich beings perspective.

Thought so.

Well, the one I’m working on is inspired by the actual writings of H.P. Lovecraft and makes direct references to them. I know it can be a broad category, with some things considered “Lovecraftian” even if it has nothing to do with anything Lovecraft wrote.

Progress no matter how small is progress.

Please don’t make any references to his cat, but jokes aside. They might not be any directly related games on the platform besides the cosmic horror ones.

Guess I need to be MORE apparent in the future. Just having outer gods and great old ones doesn’t cut it.

Thought having the main villain be an outer god was obvious enough. Ill need to re plan ch4.

Little progress is no progress to me.

Could be potentially be a bad example, but the mount Rushmore wasn’t finished by the initial person but his son. Even if you are moving at a snails pace, you are moving and that’s accomplishment in my book.

I understand the phrase as “obviously Lovecraft-inspired” (which is why I don’t necessarily count The Passenger), but I know I have a habit of making my own definitions of words…

Mount Rushmore wasn’t finished at all. It were supposed to be four busts, but only the heads were ever carved out.

Nah I agree with you it’s not really love craft in nature, but it is eldritch and beings beyond comprehension.

4? Wouldn’t it be 8 unless they are mono bust.

The original design “miniature” (I say this because the sculpture is still like, 4x my height), is the four presidents but it’s not just heads, rather it carves their images down to the waist. They still have the original cast at the monument. It’s v cool, but I don’t think it will ever be completed to the original vision if only for environmental reasons.

Oh torso, I need to examine the different meanings of words it seems. But that’s interesting, I personally haven’t looked much into the monument myself besides that small story and itself.

It’s also built on holy ground of the Sioux and a couple of other Native American tribes, which they have been offered financial compensation for by the US supreme court, but have refused to accept because it’s the land itself that’s important to them. Read up on it, if you’re interested. It’s terrible what kind of things the ‘western immigrants’ (I don’t know if there’s a better term) have done to the native populations.

The more I learn, the more I don’t understand why America is the dumpster fire it is. Or maybe it is the reason.

I guess that’s one way to describe Americans, I doubt they would like that term with how they treat other immigrants.

Can we keep on topic about writing, please - politics/history chat is best suited to other threads. Thanks!

Happy new year, everybody! And happy birthday to everyone whose birthday is this month. Thanks @ChanceOfFire for hosting the thread, and @HarrisPS for the digest.

My goals for this month are to do at least five minutes of writing every day, and to try and remember to share a snippet on the 15th – as I continually forget to be logged in for it.

That’d be best yeah
