Congrats apple!

And welcome to being an active participant of the Writer Support thread. Your contribution is appreciated, and your perspective will help others, I am sure.

@Niki_Christopherson – for future reference, the credit page in both CoG games and Hosted Games will provide you information such as the artist responsible for the artwork. You can find that in the Menu selection tab, and it will open a web page for your viewing.

Thank you all for the congratulations! It’s a struggle rn to not try and fuss over refining my prologue, but I will get through it. I think it’s in a place I’m happy with now, with no bugs or major typos, so I can move forwards to the rest of the game.

For many of us, completing the copy of the first draft is the primary goal to begin with.

Everything else will fall into place, once you have a complete story.

The game of war continues development. I’m finding that I’m having a much better time refining the scope, that said I want to focus all my time writing lore instead of working on the actual game :smiling_face_with_tear:

Here are the most up to date publishing requirements as far as I know.

Hey everyone! First, I just want to say how much I appreciate this thread. It’s incredibly helpful to me to read about other authors’ struggles and triumphs. It helps to know that I’m not alone in my struggles. I released my WIP last month, excited to have picked back up a project that I had started over a decade ago. But, I quickly realized I had jumped the gun a bit on releasing it, as I didn’t have a lot to show and the narrative didn’t focus on the MC, but rather, was a prologue to the main story. I understand now that I should have waited until I had completed the character creation before releasing.

Since then, I’ve made another mistake. Instead of focusing on completing the prologue, I took on the unexpectedly long task of creating a fight scene system that is presented entirely in narrative. I had massively underestimated how much work this was going to turn into. And, while it has pushed my re-education into coding in Choicescript it has stalled my progression of the story this month.

I hope to have an initial version of the fight scene system completed after one more good weekend of writing, but I’m finding I’m notoriously bad at estimating these things.

Hey Robd – We are happy to have you here.

I also struggle in estimating the time needed to complete goals. It is still important to set milestones and to celebrate reaching them, though, so it is good to see you doing so!

Making an active WiP thread is going to be different for each of us. I started a WiP thread for my Emigre project, but I learned that I approached it wrong as well.

With Patchwerks, I will open a WiP thread, only once the completed beta version of the common route is ready.

The plan is to let everyone read the complete draft, receive feedback, and make any changes I feel will improve the copy and then submit the project once all the art assets and such are done as well.

Since this has gone through several alpha phases, there should be no major changes.

Went and got my eyes checked today, since my sight has been getting worse the last few years.
Turns out I’ve gotten slightly near-sighted with age, but the big surprise is that I apparently have serious astigmatism, despite never having any vision problems when I was younger.

So maybe focusing on both writing and reading will get a little easier, when I get some glasses.
Unfortunately they will have to be expensive custom glasses, and not just cheap ones from the supermarket.

Thank you so much, @HarrisPS ! Last question: do I have to open a NEW thread for the beta test, or should I edit the current game thread and turn it into a beta-test thread?

It’s probably easier to keep with the same one so you can keep all the discussion in the same place/quote where you need to etc - you could edit the title to say “full game beta test open” or something similar.

Way to go!

:sunglasses:BETA TESTERS NEEDED! :love_letter:

Hi everyone! I just finished writing a HG named Last Dream, where Hindu and buddhist mythology merge to create a unique, original experience.

The beta-testing phase is open now: jump aboard and enjoy the ride while helping us debugging the game!

As usual, thank you for your love and help! :sparkler: :love_letter:

I see no failure, this is iconic (pun intended).

I used to use a photo of me online but grew more cautious over the years so I tend to either use this illustration from Royal Affairs (and will probably change it when I next have something out) or an illustration of me that a colleague drew a couple of years ago - which I love, partly because it includes a couple of my favourite pieces of clothing and partly because having art of me feels FANCY.

In less exciting news, I capitulated and admitted to myself that I’m not going to be able to get Chapter 8 in a state for anyone to see except me by Wednesday, so I’ve got an extension on the deadline for next week. I don’t know why I’m always surprised when the December-January period is slower than other times of the year, but it always happens when I’m drafting and I always have to get an extension! I escaped it last year because I was doing beta testing but this time it snuck up on me as usual.

However, today I have enjoyed doing some character-discovery that I hadn’t planned, which is always a nice feeling. In this case it was about a polyamorous relationship in Honor Bound and the relationship between the other two characters (they were friends previously and there is a bit more of a journey of them feeling more romantically confident with each other than there has been with other friends-then-polyamory relationships that I’ve written). As much as I do love to plan and can’t work without it, I like realising new shapes of things as I write too.

This is one of my favorite things about writing: when you have the broad strokes and the characters fill in the details with surprises you didn’t expect.

I hope you’re going easy on yourself for needing an extension. The latter chapters of a game get so much more complicated. I know you’ll do amazing, but I’m glad you’re giving yourself the time you need so you can write and sleep.

I’m currently drafting concepts for new games I want to work on (couldn’t get to sleep last night I was so excited about them) and really trying to keep the scope under control. Will I succeed? We shall see. I have another concept for Heart’s Choice, plus a story I think would be a better fit for Choice of Games, all in the same world as TMP and my WIP. So that’s what I’m up to today, as well as wrapping up my entry for the romance game jam and figuring out how to upload a project to itch. Maybe tonight I can add more words to my WIP.

Good luck with the writing, all! May the words be with us. :herb:

I love thinking up ideas - it’s so nice to let your mind wander! I have a list of them which I’ll return to when I’m next in a starting-a-new-game position, and even when they don’t end up going anywhere, it’s good to consider what feels compelling at a given point. About this time last year I was fleshing out the Honor Bound concept, among others, and it was so great!

Thank you! :sparkling_heart: Today was a bit disappointing, drafting-amount-wise, but part of the slowness was due to a meeting about important life stuff, and part was related to doing some noodling at a future project that isn’t ready to be talked about yet… so it was for OK reasons (on top of being sleepy, heh). Some of the parts of this particular chapter just branch so much that the amount of writing ended up ballooning! Plus this month has been busy with a load of annoying repairs and stuff.

What I am really excited about, though, is that the Royal Affairs epilogue seems to be going down well with players and it’s really lovely to see people enjoying it!

6 hours waiting at the hospital today for a prescription for antibiotics. Now, I’m not a doctor, but why did they take an xray of my chest for a suspected chest infection? Last I checked, Viruses are microscopic…

Again, not a doctor.

Other than that, driving back home, I saw a dead fox lying on the side of the road. I am deeply saddened, and oddly motivated to keep writing that last 2kish words for the update. This burst of motivation goes out to you, little fox. Rest in peace. I hope to check back in 4 or so hours with a celebratory post and an update ready to drop.
