Infamous if (band wip) chap 3 (457k wrds) released (9/08/2024)

The feral cat image lowkey has me picture Seven snarling and hissing at the poor staff that has to handle his bs now so thanks for that hilarious mental image.

I thought the insinuation was pretty clear from the way it was worded. Like a sort of, “look, the diner has your favorite dessert” meaning “you should come visit the diner (me) and have your favorite dessert” without forcing MC’s hand, because MC was deeply hurt by her child and perhaps would not want anything to do with either Seven or Lucy.

It def. could have been handled better, though.

They can very well be. It’s largely up to the player.

My brother is a special case, but my point stands: sending someone a picture of food cannot be construed as an invitation to anything. It’s a picture.

When people want to see you, they use words. Like, “I miss you and would like to see you.” or even, “If you come by, this is waiting on you!” But just a picture? Especially in the situation MC was in? Hell no. And my MC never would’ve seen it as such.

Seven: :pie:

Me: :hamburger:

Seven: :pie:

Me: :fries:

Seven: Fuck you!

Me: That clarified it, thanks!

That looks like a valid conversation between MC and Seven at this point, lol.

Not to mention it’s the perfect origin story for a singer who desperately wants to be famous.

MC can be so desperate for validation that they would do anything for it - and pick your poison! Does MC want to be famous at all costs and soak up the adoration of millions? Does MC want to prove their parents wrong about their passion? Does MC feel they need to do this for their friends and fellow bandmates because they are the closest thing to a family the MC has and losing them is unimaginable? There’s more, but you get my point.

Personally, I like the foundation of this MC and I don’t have that hard a time with their backstory. It can work for a lot of my characters that I usually put in these games (honestly I use all my D&D characters in so many different IFs and crpgs), so I can have fun a few different ways, haha.

The Seven “discourse” is like death and taxes. I’m glad you find it entertaining, lol.

10/10 accurate text conversation after the breakup.

Exactly! That kind of emotional neglect can manifest in so many different ways. MC can become a shy, meek wallflower trying to make a mark through their art, they can become a mega extrovert searching for the love they didn’t get in every person they meet, they can become cold and standoffish — the possibilities are endless. It’s gold for role playing purposes.

And the original intention a People pleaser.

I can’t wait until Mc stops sucking up to others, their band members, Seven, their parents especially. I’m sure the Avina confrontation(s) if their true thoughts are verbalized will be…fun. The day the choices available are actually mean is a good day.

I do think there is a distinction between MC being mentally/emotionally stable in comparison to the other characters and being an actually healthy adult. There’s a difference between being genuinely mature and being adultified the way MC was. They might have been treated like an adult even when they weren’t, but they were never taught how to process negative emotions or conflict in any kind of normal way. That has consequences, as we’ve seen.

In the rewrite, the MC can start being mean to the band members. Or cold, if that’s what they want. My MCs don’t like the band anymore, at all, and are tolerating them to win this thing.

With Seven… I finally made a MC specifically for him, and she won’t be mean to him. She just takes his shit stoically, along with all the other shit heaped onto her. But I have a feeling she’s going to snap at some point, lol. I just hope she doesn’t ruin my plans and end up with Blake instead of Seven.

I agree with this. Seven was never taught how to process negative emotions, either, but is the polar opposite of the MC. MC buries it or shoulders it (and trying to please everyone, in the past), while Seven rails against everyone and everything.

I’m still incapable of being mean in any rpg, ever  I do hope you all who want to burn everything to ground get at least some satisfaction in the end.

I know my MC is going to continue to cling to the band like a lifeline for a while (finding and keeping “the family” together at any cost is a common thing with this character, across all games), but I wonder how that’s gonna go for him, or if there will be a breaking point, even for him.

I read the rewrite too and enjoyed it. Felt like it gave Mc more of an actual personality, but it definitely makes sense even the mean options do have a bit of people pleaser feels to it still. Not like Mc would drastically change least in that short span.

Counterpoint: you should let this character be a woman of culture.

Yeah! They’re two sides of the same coin, essentially. They have extremely similar backgrounds, so it’s really no wonder. I think they diverge in the fact that Seven’s dad was almost certainly way more intentionally verbally abusive than MC’s parents were, who were content to ignore MC. And Lucy, of course, whose parenting style may have led to a host of separate issues, though she tried her best with the time and resources she had (it’s not easy for single moms!)

Agreed. There was enough salt to the “mean” options to make them work, I thought. It’s fun to go that route with a MC who expects to be perfect (my one MC was constantly choosing the “I could’ve done better” options and blowing off any compliments as bullshit, partially because she doesn’t trust any of the band at all).

She might end up there, forcing me to try someone else with Seven. I wrote a quick fic where she lost her shit during one of the “confession” scenes, and when it aired, she walked out after an… encounter with Savina. Blake comes up to her, and she just growls at him, “Either punch me, take your pants off, or fuck off. I’m not in the mood.” I stopped it there out of fear Blake might take her up on one or two of the offers, lol.

Is this in the rewrite? No because I understand sending a pic of a desert to break the ice if Lucy didn’t know how to react in that situation but also this:

I understand that Seven is their child and her loyalty is towards them and whatnot, but they literally raise the mc, shouldn’t she have made a bit more of an effort? Sending a single pic and not receiving a reply (rightly so imo) it’s all she was willing to do for this person she supposedly cared so much about?
ofc, like everything, this is up for interpretation and people can react as they want, but I wouldn’t blame any mcs that don’t want to reconnect with Lucy if this is all she did.

Going rightfully off on Lucy aside anyone else here just going through song playlists and assigning songs to characters or is that just me?
