Honestly, I don’t think there’s such a thing as a hero, villain or anti-hero because we can all be different things depending on point of view.
Your “good” could be my “evil” and so forth, just a matter of perspective. I mean…yeeeaaah there’s the whole morals/ethics dilemma, nobody wants to go out and do “evil” just for the sake of evil, everything is motivated. Same thing with good, no matter how much it benefits someone else or it seems altruistic in the end you’re always getting something out of it even if its just the feeling of having done a good deed.
I agree, the Jedi and Republic fall in Star Wars because this, being all good for avoid evil contamination, and in the end the corruption of the power come anyways for them.
True, i like your point, unfortunately it is not necessary to seek in fiction for this, because in history there are many examples, one of them, is the natives of america in the past, for us they are savages and for them us are like a alien invasion of the hollywood movies (destroy, enslave, kill, take). And in these situation ended up been applied the same circumstances cited by @Hex
Yup, can’t wait for Ace Combat
The franchise is quite reek of Heroism regarding the topic (except Zero), but little do they know that the path of a Hero is never a simple prophecy > training > unearth the sword > save the world.
There’s a lot of potential personal dilemma and drama to explore.
“Everyone is a hero and a villain, and no one knows who’s the victim and who’s the aggressor. And what is peace?”
Legendary quote, it’s like it was yesterday that I heard that phrase for the first time, really good times, eager to see who will really be the aggressor and the victim in the 7 too
Just someone who helps others (motives varies from loyalty to altruism to spite) but can be selfish when needed to be. i’m starting to adapt the moral particularism into my moral compass.
For me it has to be the villain due to you knowing what the hero will always do. And villains usually make a lot more sense. For example thinking about the greater good and will use any means necessary in order to get their desired outcome.
I gotta be a hero or antihero all the way through…can’t bring myself to be a villian lol. But I always notice that being a villain allows more room to grow and be “you” while a hero has such strict guidelines usually it makes it hard to be free flowing
I’m going to say an Anti-Hero. Mostly because I hate stereotypical Hero types. But I don’t want to be completely evil either.
Just an example but. Say someone threatened my family, or killed a loved one of mine.
Knowing how most Generic Hero stories go, I’d end up forgiving the person who did it while also bringing them into a bland sense of justice. Where as if I was the Anti-Hero I wanted to be. I would kill that person to stop them from doing it to anyone else ever again. Both for Revenge, and for my own sense of Justice. Where as a Villain would probably kill or torture them simply because they felt like it.
EDIT : Everyone else could view it as wrong, but at least to myself I did what I needed to do and to myself it was the right thing to do.
Honestly? I prefer stories that don’t lock me into a western style white/black hat role with ideas about strict good and evil. All my favorite games have at least a little bit of that ambiguity baked right into the narrative. Better yet, when it’s less about good and evil, more about choices and consequences.
I liked that my second rebel in CORU frex had to deal with the fallout of being ‘soft on crime’ with the nobility, since he was an aristo himself. I guess my approach to game morality could be called utilitarian.
I suppose the villain is whom I enjoy playing the most. Manipulation, murder, half-truths, genocide, ulterior motives… Most of my characters have at least a little bit of darkness inside of them, despite everything.
Y’know the few times games have allowed me to play the villainous role it has made a lot more sense to me motivation wise. I generally find it impossible to sympathise with characters other than my protagonist, who is basically just a fantasy version of me.
True Neutral. Do as you please (within bounds that maintain self-interest) and have everyone around you baffled on whose side you’re on as you show no strong alignment between heroism and villany.
It could make your character stand out or just make them boring.
Pro establishment (Hero) , Anti-Establishment/Rebel (Anti Hero & Villian) or Burn it all down (Anti Hero/ Villian).
Personally I find Heroes the best, burn it all down sexy and Anti Establishment childish or irresponsible. It’s easy to again something but to be for something and actually put words into action is something rare, especially at outrageous cost to one’s self. Power comes responsibility, power over us plebians comes the responsibility not to misuse it and I think the temptation drives human character and in turn our entertainment. Villains that one to reform or shape society honestly have little to no sympathy for me heroes villains or whatever. History tells us that Revolutions oft end up just where they started if not worse, with a that had changed a few hundred thousands dead as a change. that’s why I find burn it all down so much more attractive and sexy. They strive for a sort of change that isn’t that foé change, they recognise the carnage and cost it will incur, and they do it anyways. there is just something liberating and attractive about the truth and these people’s willingness to put up with it.
long story short
love the joker and dr Manhattan and saitama and elastic man , dislike Movie Thanos and wonder woman and detest superman.
Lots of love
