Fair but I think they’re more the ‘Duke of the North’ archetype you often see in Isekai Manwha.
Iron Bull from Dragon Age?
He’s only a good person if you actively make the choice for him in his companion mission if I remember correctly.
The good aligned kinky romance option I’m thinking about is in the WIP When Life Gives You Lemons.
Save the chargers and leave the qun ship to sink, otherwise he betrays you in the dlc.
I mean, he’s a good person before that moment, but I do kind of hate the Good vs Bad Person™ dichotomy in general because it’s very… not nuanced. I dunno, I’m at work so I’m a bit lazy to articulate it, but I can’t say I’m a fan of how moral absolutist a lot of fiction spaces are getting, that could be an entire essay and way too many research hours for me right now
Yeah, just checked out the scene on youtube, for me he’s morally ambiguous before that moment. Though he’s kinda just standing there waiting for you to make an extremely important pivotal life decision for him, with little to no input from himself. He’s always nice and personable, but not good imo, unless you make the decision to be good for him lol.
It’s probably the writing, or maybe bc he always had the qun to tell him what to do. Then he ended up having the inquisitor to tell him what do do. Sorta you are my boss and you lead I will. Follow. You tell me to jump. I will ask how high. Unrelated I love taking him into the fade and get him to freak out. Same with sera in that haunted house.
Honestly, I though Iron Bull was the worst written Qunari I ever saw. Black Wall was the worst ‘Wanna be Warden’ I ever saw…Solas, was the worst ‘I’m the future villain hiding in plain sight’…
I could go on…but I need
Really? Most people I’ve talked to liked Iron Bull, even though I personally never cared for him. Blackwall is great, and calling him “wannabe warden” is weird when he’s straight-up a Grey Warden. I guess I can understand disliking him for being generic, if you think in these terms.
But Solas? He’s a great character from start to finish. Great foreshadowing, punchy reveal, detailed motivation, chilling showcase of power in the DLC, consistent characterization all throughout the story and probably the best voice-acting in the game. I struggle to think of a single thing that should have been done differently with the guy, how can he possibly be the worst anything?
All right, I got my and I’m ready to rumble
Let’s start with Iron Bull. What does he talk about mostly? Oh yeah, he doesn’t. He act like a walking Wiki and tell you stuff about the Qunari. Yet, whole time he doesn’t feel like one. Looking like a Qunari doesn’t make you one.
He just blabber on and on about the Qunari. He was so boring.
He also sucked at his class…I never take him anywhere since Black Wall and Cassandra are better as Tank.
And finally, Them Tits! Hide your shaaaaaaaaaaaaame Qunari!
What to say about Black Wall? Btw did you ever get the bug where his beard get all Oily? That is some bacon he ate…sheesh.
Black Wall is NOT a Warden. He never went through the rite the warden do. He pretended to be one, assumed the identity of one.
The thing is…he is so poorly written, you could see the fakeness from miles away. So when the great reveal happen…you have to pretend that you are shocked! ‘Oh no, really? You are not a real warden but a criminal on the run??? OH NO! I’m Heartbroken!’…fuck, I couldn’t even fake it. So I settle for being bitter instead.
Solas? Asshole is a coward. I tried his romance just to see what got everyone so horny over him. The coward can’t even tell you the truth to your face!
And really? Whole time he is talking about how Demons and Spirits…yada yada…I’m surprised he didn’t get locked up by Cassandra back at the beginning. Oh and how I loved Punching him…guess that’s why he take our masturbating hand huh…the Liar who can’t lie get butthurt for being found out Before he got to spill the beans lol
You want a great character? Flemeth is a great character. Andrasté coming back in time of Turmoil would have been a Blast.
But not Egg head. Nope.
To be perfectly frank, every Qunari is the worst written Qunari, except a Tal Vashoth Inquisitor because you have direct input on how cringey you can be about the Qun.
I think the DA dev team had a cool concept for a half-dragon-ish race of people that they had no idea how to flesh out properly.
Well, that does get explained - Solas is well-informed about the exact problem the then-unfounded Inquisition is facing, and while that probably should have been suspicious right off the bat (and is a damning point against the Inquisition that this problem is never revisited until after Solas rips the rug out from under them), Thedas had just suffered the murder of their resident pope figure and the world was rapidly going to shit, so there were bigger concerns to deal with.
Probably, Cassandra’s mind was working on the basis of: Solas knows how to stop the sky from exploding and raining demons? Great! Bring him with us, it’s better than nothing!
I liked…what was his name? In DAO? Sten? or something.
Let’s just admit the writing sucked.
Sten, yeah, although “name” is a funny concept to the Qunari. That whole, “your job is your identity” thing.
But yeah, as much as I love DA, its writing is hilariously bad sometimes.
Speaking of having an idea and no idea how to flesh it out…
I’m not saying I would have like Vivan any better if she were a well-written scumbag noblewoman, but the end result we got was a crock of crap.
Its like they had an idea then half way changed their minds or something.
Personally, I would’ve done it differently.
DA3 should’ve been about the aftermath of the Bombing in Kirkwall. There you get 3 choices: 1) Erase the Templars for good, 2) Erase the Mages rebel for good, 3) Erase both factions for good which would give birth to the rise of the Seeker of Truth.
Which lead us to the Bombing and the death of Justinia?, as the Seeker of Truth get split in 2 factions. One faction is led by Corny and the other by Cassandra and Leliana.
Meanwhile, Egg head is searching Corny and playing the Inquisition for Suckers.
Vivian whose role have been pathetic…would turn on us at some point.
And at the end, you get to race against Time chasing Corny as he try to open the Fade. Only to be stopped by Egg head…who take your hand, and reveal who he is…
And here come DA4…
Now that make sense no?
And in DA4, Egg head tear the Veil…and the Qunari instead of zig zagging like rats in some lousy DLC…actually would come and combine their might to face the unleashed hoarde of demons and shit.
While you chase Egg head…so you can Impale him for good.
The issue I have with her is that she is Painted as this ambitious Bitch from Hell, who risen through the ranks to achieve her goal, being stopped by NOTHING.
And here she is, the end of the world looming over us…and she is waiting to be picked like in a school yard.
Are you fucking with me??? Thats Bullshit.
The fact that you can entirely dismantle Vivian’s ambitions by just ignoring her invitation and never recruiting her is hysterical. And this woman holds high regard in the imperial court. Pfft.
And then in the end she just goes forward with her idiot schemes anyhow, so like, why did she even waste the time trying if she clearly didn’t need the Inquisition’s help?
(Although, given that Morrigan also holds high regard in the imperial court, I can only wonder how it is that Orlais hasn’t just collapsed under its own incompetence yet.)
So much wasted potential…
You guys wound me, Dragon Age is my favourite game series, and I love all the companions…
Especially Iron Bull, he’s my fav RO.
One thing I’ll say though -
Solas should have been bisexual. It makes no sense that the guy who values spirit so much turns you down because of your body.
It says a lot about DAI that I’m more interested in whatever side quest my warden mention in a letter than the main plot of the game.
