Hello! Two years ago, I started a new set of interactive fiction awards hosted on the Interactive Fiction Database. We had dozens of voters in dozens of categories, which was lots of fun.
We’re back this year!
One major issue, though, is that the pool of voters for Choicescript games on IFDB is pretty low, since this forum is the major place of interaction for that group. So, we have two problems:
Most Choicescript games published in 2024 aren’t listed on IFDB, and
There aren’t many votes in the choicescript poll yet:
It would be wonderful, if you loved a Choicescript game from 2024, if it could be added to IFDB and voted on in the Choicescript game poll. Official CoG, HG, HC, or indie releases are all welcome. Anyone can add a game with ‘Add a Game listing’, although it would help to search first to make sure it doesn’t exist.
There are other categories, too, but I presume they’ll be of less interest as they involve more than just choicescript games. The rule of thumb for voting is that when you click on a category, if you recognize at least a few games on the first few pages of options then you’re probably safe to vote in that category; if you don’t really recognize any games then you should probably try some of the ones you see first.
Voters can vote for as many games as they want, but cannot vote for themselves.
In any case, whether people vote or add games or not, thanks for writing great games!
Is there any way to update an entry? Ink and Intrigue still has the temporary cover art and description from the Spring Thing demo, which doesn’t reflect the finished game.
If you have an IFDB account, you can simply log in and change the page directly. Alternatively, you can provide me with the updated description and cover art, and I can do it for you.
Updating one’s own game entries feels like editing one’s own Wikipedia page. I keep having to remind myself that it’s not the same at all and it’s allowed.
You’re exactly right, it can feel weird, but due to IFDB’s small community size, almost all pages are created and updated by their authors, so you won’t stick out in a bad way at all!
And people on the polls can add new games that aren’t on there yet at all by going to the bottom and typing in the name of the game. People can vote for as many games as they want that aren’t theirs, and a lot of times others, once they see another game added, will say, ‘oh, yeah, that one was great!’ and it will get several votes in a short period.
Thanks! That helps so much! And I’ve seen a couple of people come in and add to the voting, which is very appreciative.
Anyone else who wants to vote, feel free. These awards are designed to be standalone, and this one was created with the Choice of Games community specifically in mind, so if there was a choicescript game you really loved from 2024, there’s nothing wrong at all with voting for it in the Choicescript poll.
I deeply appreciate all the help people have given. The poll has quite a few more votes than in previous years, and it definitely feels like we’ll have enough votes by the deadline (the weekend of Valentine’s Day). Of course feel free to continue voting for anyone who has yet to do so (or to change previous votes), but I just wanted to express my appreciation for all the participants so far.
The current standings are: Honor Bound, by Harris Powell-Smith 5 votes
Thanks again and see you all next year! Your voting really helps the other communities I’m part of learn what Choicescript games they may want to try out.
