I think I saw a post from the ye olden days of tumblr about Choice of the Dragon. At the time the last of the Heroes trilogy was just coming out, so probably around 5 years ago now, crazy how time flies!
Doomsdays i was like well why not give it a shot and boy what a journey i cant say i read all of the hosted and CoG releases but i read at least more than half now to when i think it was in 2017 or 2018 i cant remember well
I remember reading online book in my mom phone and I was searching for new book to read which as you can guess, COG. āCreature Such As Weā was my ever first COG game I read then followed by āThe Sea Eternalā I think? I was like 15? When I played COG and I never stop ever since
My PC is crap. It only handle Gameboy Roms and Visual Novels/Text-Based games.
I am a freelance coder and narrative designer. Finding out about CoG was more or less inevitable for me, especially as I started branching out from Twine, my first Text Adventure game engine, and went to learn more about my chosen area of study to other Interactive Fiction tools/engines. I first read about Choice of Games 2 years ago on Emily Shortās blog while reading through it for examples for a presentation on Interactive Fiction. Since then, Iāve been wanting to start a project to make a proper ChoiceScript game, but felt I needed more experience in writing more short works first so that I would be well enough disciplined.
About a month ago I felt confident to actually start designing a longer project, and CoG platform was ideal for this one. I plan on finishing my outline this week, and in the coming days I will probably post the first few chapters in the WIP section, when they are ready.
I was bought here by āthe lost heirā triology still my favourite and i do admit there is a lot of bias there due to being my 1st read , before that i came upon some other playable stories and losr heir just popped up in recommened , been here ever since and never left.
Same here! It was the Lost heir trilogy what brought me to the forum but It took me a year more to be a member of the forum.
I saw a lot of really cool fanart and fan theories for a game I found out later was Wayhaven, downloaded the game, and really enjoyed it. I didnāt get really into COG until randomly discovering Tally Ho later. And itās all been downhill from there
Sigh i wish there was a sequel triology of the lost heir triology.
I was reading olaf and the dragon then got inspired to read more CYOA stories. I found life of wizard after googling and have been reading since then.
Long time ago, but I think it was because of Alter Ego (which Iām pretty sure I discovered through a Vsauce video, ah the nostalgia). I found Choice of the Dragon a little while later and the rest is history.
Well I found CoG through Zombie Exodus. I then found CoDragons and Lost Heir trilogy. This compelled me to search up the developers and I found a whole frickken forum. Never regret spending a few minutes to search it up.
Mostly reposted from a similar thread a couple of years ago:
I had seen a few CoG and HG games on the App Store as I browsed the Top RPG lost for ideas, and been tempted by Psy High and A Wise Use of Time. Never bit, because I was unsure about the stats, having never experienced IF as anything but my childhood collection of CYOA books.
Some time later, I had an idea. Not that unusual, even for me. But it struck me as a very good idea. Better than any creative one I had to date. It was for a SRPG or possibly RPG, with an absurd premise, and hopefully some fairly engaging gameplay. I have zero knowledge about gamemaking, though, so I had to go about looking for someone who did. But easier said than done. As a single income family with two little girls, my inability to provide much upfront renumeration was poison to finding willing collaborators.
While posting about the search on the forum where I used to play D&D, a couple of users mentioned that I should try to make it on my own, and to start down that road I should make a simple game myself. During that conversation, one person unwittingly changed the course of my creative career by mentioning Choice of Games. I came here in June of ā17, saw the contest, and knew I had to do this to see if I could. And here I am!
I still want to make the RPG someday, but I highly doubt it given the expenditure involved and how niche it would likely be. But just being able to publish not one, but two stories has meant a lot.
I canāt remember the circumstances of how I found itā¦but I discovered mobile armored marine and was really taken with Choice Games as a medium. Such a fun take on casual reading!
My first ever Choice Game was choice of dragon back when there was hardly any choice games at the time. I was just bored and wanted to find something different. so i went to the app store and went scrolling. Choice of dragon has a special place in my heart for this reason
I honestly just found it by searching text-based rpgs on my phone. I found I think it was Choice of the Dragon and discovered the rest of CoG through that.
Chronicon Apocalyptica came up in my Steam suggestions; I really liked it, and decided to find more of them! Which is really weird, and makes me realize how little I understand Steam suggestions - it recommended Chronicon Apocalyptica to me even though I had nothing remotely like it in my library, and now Iāve got so, so many COGs and HGs in my library, and Steam never recommends others to me!
I found mine on my Kindle fire and on Steam actually
I saw Choice of the Dragon in the app store not too long after it was released, and since it was free (or at least inexpensive, canāt remember which), I just went for it. I have been hooked on these games ever since.
I found it through a friend. We both have similar tastes and he always told me about the stories. So, I finally gave them a try and fell in love with them. I believe my first was Choice of Rebels; I remember liking it quite a bit because of some of the management of resources.
