I am currently running a contest on Reddit for people to vote on their favorite HG (and HC) titles, which includes every single story released on both labels. The first two rounds will be 4 stories in each match, with the top one going on, then after that it will be 1 v 1. This works similarly to the favorite character contest I ran on the sub several years ago.
Keep in mind there are others beyond the one I linked to; you can find them by sorting to new or just searching for brawl, I imagine there aren’t that many options.
I’ll post new matches periodically in batches of 8. Hope y’all enjoy!
I know I’ve played a lot of these games, but judging by the fact that in every round, there’s at least one I’ve played, sometimes too, and at least one case all of them, I really wonder how much money I’ve spent on these things
Next 8 matches went up, because I have poor impulse control and the first 8 were already more or less decided. A couple of these could be tougher; not 100% sure who comes out on top in match 12, where Great Tournament is up against I, The Forgotten One. Or match 15, which pits one of the Keeper stories against The Passenger. I’ll post the link to that one, but please check them all out if they strike your fancy.
Can’t say I’m all that surprised by ITFO immediately tanking great tournament right off the bat. Keeper/passenger looks like it could be interesting though
TGT wins out in terms of nostalgia, but when you put the two of them next to each other, in terms of just quality, one of them is better than the other. Both go for the low fantasy aesthetic, have a similar subset of fans, But ITFO has a bit more to it in terms of the characters, a more substantial plot with higher stakes, and the psychological aspect of it. If it was in literally any other group, even something with a Wayhaven game in it, I would give it a decent chance at winning out
I’m not 100% sure. Infinity stories have at least a fighting chance. That being said, the character contest a few years back ended in a finale that was the FH MC vs. Ortega, I think. And that was back when there was only one FH. So I wouldn’t bet against it at all.
As I never tire of reminding everyone, the Dragoon Saga sells worse than most people expect. It’s got a devoted fanbase with a lot of cohesion - which makes them disproportionately visible, but doesn’t stack up in a numbers game.
Trust me, I know. I remember being surprised by the review numbers for the games when I did that numbers deep dive a few years back. But this is Reddit. It operates on different rules. It’s unlikely an Infinity will ever outearn a Fallen Hero. But could it get more votes over on the sub?
Well, probably not. But it’s possible. More so for the dragoons than it is for just about any other story, at least. Keep in mind that FH and Infinity are roughly equivalent in the amount of meme and discussion posts they generate, and nothing else is even close, including heavy hitters like Wayhaven and Hyuga.
I accept the consequences of my creative decisions. If someone doesn’t pick up the series because of the genderlock, they have every right to do so without being made to feel bad about it.
Next round will be a real test for ITFO. Grim and I, I can see it beating. But it’s also up against the first Hyuga. I suspect it wins, but it’s far from certain.
This sounds like a fun way to stir up some friendly competition among HG/HC fans. Love the bracket-style setup, can’t wait to see which stories come out on top. May the best narrative win!
Given the sub has numerous fallen hero flairs and a regular not fallen hero I’ve played it disclaimer I fear we know who’ll win! This is still fun though!
