Hosted Games Brawl for it All Happening on the HG Subreddit

Haha, sounds like the “fallen hero” vibe is strong in this sub! Even if the outcome feels predictable, it’s still a blast to see how it all plays out. Sometimes the journey is more fun than the result!

New matches are up! I won’t lie, this group is a bit bereft of larger titles comparatively (remember, these were matched randomly). I’m linking to match 24, which is the biggest ticket in the bunch: Life of a Mercenary vs. Mage Reborn vs. Attack of the Clockwork Army vs. Sorcerer’s Story.

Next match crop will have arguably the most notable clash to date: Match 25, which will pit Soul Stone War 1, Nascent Necromancer and Unexpectedly Green Journey together.

You don’t think Study in Steampunk is the biggest ticket? Damn, man…

(And sorry to @hazel, who drew a tough bracket…)

I’d say the big ticket ones are ones with more than one title that’s popular enough you could see it even going past round 2. Turncoat has an outside chance against Steampunk; the other two in that match are total non-starters. But ultimately I think its outcome was more or less decided the moment I posted it, like most other round 1 matches. It was only a narrow victory for the people who picked to do the first two rounds as 4-way matches instead of 1v1 all the way (which would have meant a whopping 255 total matches in this thing), and I think they made the right call. It really would have been a lot of filler to get through before the tough choices emerged.

And if anyone thinks my summations are harsh, rest assured I take a similarly jaundiced eye to the outcome of my own three entries. Toaster already got burnt in the last batch, Day After will likely be runner-up against Midnight Saga towards the end of the round, and poor Parenting, the only one that reasonably had a good chance to win at least the first round, drew a Wayhaven in match 39. Parenting probably could have won at least half of these round 1 kerfuffles, but that isn’t likely to be one of them.

I will say that round 2 is already shaping up to really slap people in some sensitive areas. Here are the four matches for next round that are already determined:

Match 1: Aswick 2 vs. Heart of Battle vs. Golden Rose vs. War for the West

Match 2: Highlands Deep Waters vs. Hyuga 3 vs. Lords of Infinity vs. Daria: Kingdom Simulator

Match 3: Majesties’ Pleasures vs. Hyuga 1 vs. Grim and I vs. I The Forgotten One

Match 4: Way Walkers 1 vs. Twelve Trials vs. The Passenger vs. Fields of Asphodel

Maybe Necromancer can eke out one round

I see what you did there.

I don’t think it likely (my best guess is Green, though I am far from certain), but when there’s more than two games of note involved, there’s no telling exactly how the vote splitting may impact things. It hasn’t really come up yet in the contest. One thing’s for sure, TNN isn’t getting last (No Proper Thief is the fourth entrant in that one).

@LiliArch I would like to say I couldn’t resist the temptation, but that implies I even tried to do so, which is a lie.

Uh, I did not expect AMR to completely throttle mercenary like that. Those are both really popular games, and they are from two different elements of the fantasy genre so the level of fan overlap wouldn’t be quite as big as the ITFO/great tournament match up, but nope

Oof, maybe I got off lightly.

Another round of matches is up. Link to the aforementioned #25: Reddit - Dive into anything

@Samuel_H_Young While TNN isn’t looking good in that one so far, you are winning match #26 at the moment with Magician’s Burden. You also have one in match #28, but it’s up against a Keeper, so…

I’ll take any first round win :ok_hand:

Who wouldn’t?

FYI, this is turning out to be an interesting group of matches. In two of them, the leader has a margin of exactly one point. And in four of them, the outcome is still far from certain. By round 1 standards, that’s pretty good.
