Glad to hear that! (and hope that I will have addressed your complaints in a good way!) I know that many authors don’t update their games that much, but my own philosophy is that games should grow organically, and I like to address feedback as much as possible… it is often just a question of time. Highway Wars didn’t get the update it needed for many years, down to a combination of lack of time on my side (my daytime job was so busy for many years…) and my own distraction in getting other games out. But, I do keep all the emails and alerts from this forum in a separate folder, and went through them for this update I can’t say I have gone through all the comments, and I have received some new ones recently. But, those will all have to go into a future update next year!
Suffice to say that in my opinion this version of the game is now “good”, in that I think it addresses all mayor (constructive) criticism I have received through the years, and it does so in a meaningful way (it is a large update!).
But, I have more ideas and comments, and as I say, once this is out and the dust has settled I may continue to improve it! (so please, any criticisms and recommendations you have post-release, make sure to tell me! I do try to listen! )
Description of the changes coming to v1.2.0. on Nov 2nd! (~27,000 extra words)
V.1.2.0 (232,000 words)
-Added the possibility to converse with the 8 different navigators while driving. There are also other possibilities of things to do while driving (try to patch yourself up, whistle along, etc).
-There are two new roads that can be traveled along, parallel to the existing main road. These new roads offer new encounters.
-The “scripted gunner death” has been removed. It is now possible for the gunner to survive throughout the game.
-Rewrote the “jumping the bridge” scene. There are now more possibilities to traverse the bridge, or an alternative route can be taken.
Have not gotten the option to purchase the DLC in the omnibus app. Was this DLC supposed to be free or for purchase ?
Never mind just realized this was an update and not a DLC
Glad you figured it out… but yes, this update is rather big, but it is completely FREE!
Essentially, it brings the game to what I think should have been like when I released it (hindsight is always great, of course). I will continue to add to it in the future, although maybe next one will be a DLC…
Most of my games have a “mono” philosophy to them. This is not something my own philosophy, but rather a way to force a player to make a choice (the philosophy being that there should be choices in games… with an underlying main issue that coding poly romance takes much more time and effort, so better to make it so that the RO in my games generally want to be exclusive). Hope this makes sense…
Basically you’re saying that you make your game’s romances “mono” to make them more meaningful and cause coding poly romances would take too much work.
How do you become a Vampire? And what are the advantages and disadvantages of becoming one in this game? This includes any romance issues like if it locks you out of some romances. Also would like to know who are all the female ROs if anyone knows them.
I think it has to do with the serum found at the mountain base, your MC has to have high aggressiveness and recklessnes (?) otherwise, he/she has a low chance to resist the effects
@adrao This is a suggestion or idea for a future update or DLC for this game.
Summary
Have you considered adding a Werewolf path to Highway Wars? Cause these Moroi in-game sounds like something close to them but still feel very vampiric in nature. I didn’t mention something like this in Hero or Villain cause you can do a werewolf build by just picking Shapeshifting and Wolf Form. But a Vampire in Highway Wars sounds kinda OP to a degree and these Morois are not helping the status quo. Just feel like having a Werewolf path could balance it out somewhat and cause I like Werewolf. I even feel that it’s possible to add them since they used a common “vampire” bat to make a vampire serum so they could easily do the same with wolves or other animals but wolves would be safer. If you also had to think on what features to give a werewolf MC including physical traits, the physical abilities can be similar to the vampire one just with werewolf having advantages in tracking and either power or speed if you’re able to pick one. As for their physical traits, probably could add fangs, fluffy wolf tail (IT’S SO FLUFFY!!!), retractable claws, wolf eyes providing better eyesight and either partial furs or more hairs either in armpits, chest, limbs and head for males and the females having more hair on the head if you feel fur is too much for their human appearance. Regarding the transformations, you could make it where it’s either rage based or mind over body type where they can transform if they focus enough with either being based on the choices you picked when you modify and inject the serum. And their wolf form can either be a giant wolf whether Twilight movie size or lion sized or a classic Van Helsing-like bipedal werewolf. The Lunar Cycle can be where it doesn’t force their transformation but it does affect their emotion so if someone is normally calm and level headed, they can get easily ticked off from the slightest things depending on how close the Lunar Cycle is to a Full Moon. But they would only get easily ticked off if it’s really close to a full moon. And obviously someone with a temper problem would be a nightmare to deal with or to encounter on the wrong time.
As per the email that was sent out by CoG earlier, this game has now updated with tons of new content! Please try it out and let me know what you think!
@Zarkrai currently haven’t considered the possibility of werewolf characters… not something anybody else has requested. And yes, currently the only vampire path is with AIDAN. This may change if I extend that ending path in the game, but I’m not sure which of the endings I will be extending first (I’ll be running polls on that “once the dust has settled”).
@Tiavals all versions should have updated… is the steam one still the same? Can you talk to the navigators as you drive?
Haven’t tried yet, there’s just no note of the update on the Steam forums or anything so I figured maybe it wasn’t yet. Can’t really try it until next week since I really need to get my work routine back under control and I know I’d play through it a few times if I tried it.
Yes, sorry… the steam forums for all my games (most/all CoG/HG) are very quiet. By the nature of the games most people seem to read them on their phones, so through android or iOS. I often forget to post on Steam… but, as far as I know the game has been updated on all platforms and is working as intended (no bug reports yet, so I think all is good!). Please let me know what you think when you do read… when the dust settles in a week or two I’ll be running some new polls about where to go next with this game (want to continue extending it to increase replayability, in the course of 2024)
