@Lobo420, that would work for me too.
It’s kinda ironic that the only life you can save by your choices in the entire game can only be saved if you value fame over justice…
I really hated the villain in this game. Not in a “love to hate” way but in a just… wow, “this character isn’t interesting or enjoyable to read about at all” way. Basically as the illusion of control begins to fade further and further I just held on to the hope that there would be some payoff for the crap that kept flying. Finally I end up at the end and read this girl’s PDF attachment and it turns out… nope. She’s just a complete f$@%ing psychopath… No further meaning. She’s just completely insane, but yet somehow able to come up with and orchestrate this insanely detailed, involved, intricate plan that has basically made me a puppet for the entire game… At that point I just had to step back and say… “Wow, I don’t care how this ends anymore.” I mean, I read her little diatribe until the part where it explains who her mother was, and after that I just couldn’t be assed to care anymore. I hoped "Well maybe if I stop reading it’ll act like I decided I didn’t care about her little story. But nope. She doesn’t even notice. She prepares this epic tale for you and doesn’t even care if you read it or not. So… the last ounce of any sort of power I might have had was gone. And then a deus ex machina.
Also Black Magic is a dead ringer for a pomeranian.
Still not on I-tunes. ~O)
lol
Finally got around to playing and, sadly, I have to agree with the railroading complaints. I still enjoyed the game for what it was, but the lack of real choices doesn’t exactly encourage me to replay it. You HAVE to take a sidekick, you HAVE to team up with Black Magic (who you HAVE to have a crush on) and his/her group, you HAVE to ignore them for days, ect.
I was sad that it also ended on such a depressing note (for me anyway, but that may be because I have no clue how to get my legend past 50). I can’t seem to improve my relationship with Victon no matter what I try, when I saved Sparrow it turned out she wasn’t real or something so the reporter’s death was for nothing (but if I saved the reporter then, surprise! Sparrow is suddenly a real person and I am now responsible for her death), and the millenial group won’t help me because I tried to blackmail Fistfull and Monk (I didn’t WANT to, but the game gave me no choice). I know the point was supposed to show the pc that being a hero isn’t all what it’s cracked up to be, but by the end of the game it felt more like all of his hopes and dreams had been crushed forever.
That said, there were a lot of things I enjoyed about the game. The characters are interesting and I’d like to get to know them more, the setting and the way society had changed from our time felt unique, and I actually felt myself caring about what would happen to the people living in this world. I really want to see this continued in future games, hopefully with more freedom and positive outcomes.
I have to agree with about everything Erie said here.
It’s not that it wasn’t enjoyable to play overall I just felt like it missed something and that everything was so straight forward and that you didn’t always get a say in the matter regarding choices. And to be honest that shit is kinda frustrating.
@ Eriedanna,
The ending is depressing no matter how high your legend level actually is (mine was 74, i think) all your heroic dreams and ambitions are ruined no matter what, the only serious cash you can earn comes from something you don’t deserve, the only real job you’re offered is to become the sidekick (and probably lowest paid member of the team) of the prime antagonist’s son and Black Magic turns out to be a big jerk. In all your career you can genuinly save exactly one life and apprehend one criminal and at the end of it all you’re also forced to move to an even crummier part of the slums (unless you’re either going to spend undeserved cash or trust a government agency who have apparently done such a bang up job protecting you and your family).
To be quite honest the reaction of my Hero would probably be to hang up his cape and settle for whatever crummy job flipping burgers or something he can get at this point since it’s at the very least got to be better than trying to be a Hero. Also never having to work with either Rebellion, the Millenial Group or Black magic again would probably be too soon for him.
I do want to take both the Mayor and his son down and I do hope for a sequal since the setting is interesting and quite well written but I hope this time there will be an anti Hero route to do, cause after all that’s happened my Hero’s through being mr. nice guy, it and far less required idiocy and the resulting humiliation on my part.
@ Tdilz,
Agreed that this game could probably benefit greatly from a patch that at least fixes the minor points and allows for a few minimal impact yet presently omitted choices that, when combined, would be able to greatly enhance the game.
Didn’t like it personally I believe we shouldn’t of just ended.with a.crummy life
Everyone complains about a crummy life so I doubt its worth vying and I hope you learn to make the whole game free on rthewebsite arty jason
Did anyone understand how and/or why the Mistress (Was that her name? The character who’s power is sex appeal) ended up dead btw? Was she killed by a knife wielding ghost or something? The explanation Prodigal gives, just like most of the things she says/writes, doesn’t make much sense.
Also, has anyone else been unable to play the game online? When I click the “play online” button it takes me to the loading screen with the Show Stats button, but then gives me a message saying “Error loading script” and then loads forever. I managed to get past it by going to the stats page and restarting the game with the link there.
Black Magic is a dead ringer for a glass of orange juice.
Uh I bought it with the google store so I think I HAVE to play it online, but I haven’t tried to play it without a connection yet.
Madame Vice. That’s right. That’s what her name was. How did she die? Seems like she got assassinated by a ghost with a knife.
Shoelip: Which character can make a knife appear way the hell out of thin air?
Heroes Rise should be available on iTunes tomorrow.
@Ramidel Possibly Prodigal, but she says it wasn’t her. It was supposedly Smythers who somehow came back as a knife wielding ghost to murder his former subordinate for not apparent reason. And if it was Prodigal, how the hell did she do it right next to us without anyone knowing? Whole thing makes no sense.
Well, it never explicitly tells us what Smythers’ ability was, as far as I can tell, so it is possible he could survive the grenade and then just hire someone to assassinate MV, or do it himself. As for the no choice in having a crush on Black Magic, because you can choose who he/she can look like, and because a crush, by definition, is involuntary, I think it makes sense. Besides, you are given the choice to reject BM.
N/m about that last line, just tried to reject BM, but that didn’t work… I guess that bit is done poorly. Ah well, in my opinion, it still makes sense, if a famous and attractive celebrity that you had a crush on wanted to have sex with you, would you say no?
If said famous and attractive celebrity had been jerking me around since I first met her and shown absolutely no respect for me or for what I want? Yeah, quite likely.
A crush may be involuntary. How you act on it is your choice, and Black Magic is not an endearing personality.
I’m with RDT on BM. I don’t think it’s that obvious she’s jerking the player around, and I believe someone completely lovesick for her would give her the benefit of the doubt. Nevertheless I agree that forcing players to feel strongly about other characters against their will is a bad idea in general, and a decision to reject her should be respected, not ignored.
I’ve played through the game a few times, and the highest Legend score i’ve gotten so far was 96. In the end, some parts were still really disappointing, no matter how I played it.
Especially with the only possible love interest being Back Magic. What about Rebellion? Or Jenny?
Also, it doesn’t allow the player to back out from getting together with Black Magic. And the part that I was kinda bored with was the part where the player and Black Magic are lying in bed, and you get a few choices of questions you can ask, but every answer is the same. “Oh, you don’t want to hear about that.”
And how about getting together with Victon? Or deciding you didn’t want to pry into Black Magic’s secret room?
Or what if I don’t want to go get that Gravitas?
I think some parts could be improved, with regards to the way the choices you make affects how the story ends up. Because I get a feel it just changes stats, and the choices don’t really make a big change in the storyline besides that.
All in all, ! still think it’s a fantastic story, but would love to be able to affect the story more with my choices.
