“Heroes Rise” Is the First Text Adventure on Steam; We Need Your Help!

@Samuel_H_Young I’m very inclined to believe its forum members or people who are already fans of the game from before, but I’m not complaining if they aren’t. In fact I’d actually be elated if proven incorrect.

iTunes and Google play as well, at least the stars are higher. Zombie Exodus does have more reviews than both though. Pretty sure Dan and Jason have access to the numbers, they probably made the right decision.

@GameOver To be very, very honest I’m not so sure that they even had time look at the HG’s numbers. This seems sort of… I dunno, rushed? Just my gut feeling. Though as stated above I’m sure we’d all be happy if COG got approved for a platform shift for the rest of it’s games. Just not sure if this was “Putting the best foot forward”.

@GameOver
To be fair, ZE’s first volume was free, which always gets you lower ratings.

@Samuel_H_Young , question, did you perchance take a look a the steam forum for the game here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/299540/discussions/ there are some rather… unpositive “reviews” there for prodigy.

@Samuel_H_Young “To be fair, ZE’s first volume was free, which always gets you lower ratings.”. I assume you meant higher ratings?

@Malebranche
Nope. It makes many people feel “cheated” when they have to buy the sequels.

@Samuel_H_Young I’m aware of that, just was a bit confused by the “To be fair” part, I wasn’t sure what you meant to be fair to (was assuming HR).

Too many variables at play to base any conclusions on which game is more “popular”. The free chapters could be a factor. The fact that many people don’t leave reviews could be another.

I am confused why you think the release on Steam was rushed. You said gut feeling so I suppose that is as good an explanation as any.

@GameOver good that you ask, in addition to gut feeling this is why (and I will quote from Dan’s comment to me earlier): " I didn’t want to miss the chance to be the first text adventure on Steam!" Particularly the “I didn’t want to miss the chance” part. Now as far as I know COG are the only ones crazy enough (as in good crazy, not stupid) to put up a completely text based game on steam, so that throws out the idea of a competitor getting the jump on something especially since there are already VN’s on Steam. And if your gonna do a launch why not add Herofall to the mix so there is added incentive for previous buyers to buy again if you wanted to show Steam that you are a good investment. All of which leads me to one conclusion (As Sherlock Holmesy as this all sounds), that which was stated above. Also in regards to reviews, people apparently felt alot more compelled to leave a review on ZE than on HR.

I’ve always disliked Heroes Rise as a series, but I bought the bundle to support CoG. :slight_smile: Hopefully it’s a success!

Everyone: if you can leave a positive review on The Hero Project, that would be super helpful. Right now, The Prodigy is doing fine with reviews, but THP is getting smashed by people who can’t figure out that it’s a sequel.

@TheMeerkat thank you! We very much appreciate it.

I saw it on Steam and came here to see the news. Not interested in Heroes nor getting CoG from Steam, but I wish you all luck in reaching out to a wider audience this way!
I might be interested in getting some of the other games, though (such as Star Captain), or even a complete bundle.

I find it interesting how many people are bad mouthing the games without so much as having tried it. I think the whole “Air Control” controversy jaded a lot of people.

Rock Paper Shotgun have posted an article about this:

By having this on Steam, we’re reaching new people who may have never heard about CoG before. It’s a good thing.

Yeah, it appears having text as the medium of choice for a game is draw enough to get gaming media more interested. Pretty much the only reputable gaming magazine in Finland wrote a bit about it in their news section:

It’s not a review, but they seemed quite positive about the release of IF on steam at first glance. Especially when it’s basically dirt cheap to get them right now.

Now some people on steam are criticizing the games for lack of artwork, all but accusing the author of HR for being lazy because it doesn’t have pretty pictures every other page.

Uh oh, the comment page for the games was deleted.

@fantom No, it was just temporarily unavailable. (I saw that error, too, but it just came back. No idea why.)

Okay, I bought both copies on Steam. Embarrassingly enough, I can’t figure out how to leave a review 0.0 can you only do so if you’ve downloaded it?
