Hero or Villain: Battle Royale (Feedback thread, new cheat codes, post #161)

I have just sent an update of HoV: BR to CoG. The main thing in it are some new cheat codes, detailed in the video below:

(codes will only become active when the game is updated… not sure when that will happen, hopefully in the next few days).

Do you need to have a specific build to defeat the blade master before Joo interferes because I was winning against him without taking any damage and was about to finish him off before Joo interfered?

joo will always kill him if she likes you the only way for you to beat the blade master and if she doesn’t like you

Can I ask, has anybody managed to make the cheat code works, when importing a saved game from HoV: Genesis?

For me it didn’t work

The Blademaster fight is rigged. Beat him and he’ll get up again until you get to the Joo turn. You can only defeat him if she doesn’t intervene then.

I remember that part of the reason behind why I did that is that the coding was becoming somewhat complicated… but I could try to revisit it so that you can actually defeat the Blademaster. However, I also thought that it was an interesting thing whether Joo intervenes or not… how do people feel about this?

Well, I get that the reason is to prevent you from being able to interfere in the rest of the fighting, and of course, most heroes are better off trying to sandbag until Joo can drop him. But, I definitely don’t like being in a situation where I should be able to kick this guy’s ass, but instead getting forced into a cutscene where Joo kills him (unless Joo is stalling to let me get killed first).

I would recommend pulling the point where he stops laughing off your victory back a single round. That way, if you’re a bad enough dude to take him down in under four rounds, he can still stall to railroad the rest of the fight, but you can still finish him off before Joo is ready to get involved.

Whether Joo gets involved is only an interesting question if you don’t have it resolved yourself.

I particularly like the way it is now

I don’t like it not at all simply because Joo acts like the mc was losing if you even just say that blade master was your Kil she straight ups threatens us but I don’t expect better than that from her but her saying that we were toast even though my mc wasn’t even touched once in the whole fight and the blade master was all done.I would have no problem with it if we were actually losing and she said the those things because then it would be warranted also it makes her look stupid that a huntress like that can’t see the mc was winning easily.

perhaps a simpler way would be to create an alternative dialogue in which if the mc was winning joo still saves us but she claims to be impressed because she knows we could win without her help

@adrao Just tested this again today & it doesn’t work still - maybe there’s a further complication between save files that are on different difficulties (started with hard difficulty in book 1, didn’t use any cheats - tried to use cheats in book 2 but it says that this locks you into Very Easy or Ridiculously Easy difficulty level - which is not what my save file is) that’s stopping it from applying?

Also as a mini heads-up, 2 Bugs to Report:

  • When creating a new character in Book 2, the game/story loops back to the “arriving at the reception” opening scene after you select what power type you have, and then once more after confirming your name.
  • None of the cheat codes from Book 1 are recognized when making a new character in Book 2. The book 2 cheat codes do work for new characters, but not for characters that you are loading in.

(an aside: maybe when loading in a character from Book 1, they should have the ability to use Book 1 cheat codes as well, just in case they wanted to address a skill that was lacking or to start Book 2 with additional funds)

Also wanted to plug once more how much I love all of your work & truly do appreciate your creativity and hard work!

Apologies @adrao for replying to my own comment, it looks like this stems from how & when the script records the inputs of cheat codes. It seems this is impacting Tokyo Wizards as well (thank you for placing codes functionality in that title as well!!)

As readers input cheat codes before loading in a file or finishing character creation, the effects of the codes are overridden anytime:

  • Save data from the imported character file is loaded

  • readers select an option in character creation that influences their stats via (for example: “Set Soul 10”) rather than “Soul +10” as using the “Set” function overides pre-existing values attatched to that variable

This may be fixed by assigning a count to each specific cheat code that is used, then applying the effects of each cheat codeXthe number of times the code was inputted after character creation is done/after a character is done loading (at the start of the first chapter maybe). That way cheat code benefits aren’t overriden, rather the existing values following character creation are the ones that are adjusted accordingly

  • this would be expanding off of the counter you already have in place to decide if a book’s difficulty level should be forced into Easy or Ridiculously Easy based on the number of codes a reader is using

Thanks so much!I just looked at the code and realized a big problem, I created variables but forgot to set them to 1… anyway, I just sent a fix to CoG. Hopefully they will manage to implement before the weekend (but you never know with these things, so if not then possibly next week).

About the two problems:

  • When creating a new character in Book 2, the game/story loops back to the “arriving at the reception” opening scene after you select what power type you have, and then once more after confirming your name.
Can you confirm that this is still happening? I looked at the code but cant see the problem… this could have happened if somehow you were playing while the gamefile were being updated. If it persists let me know and I will check.
  • None of the cheat codes from Book 1 are recognized when making a new character in Book 2. The book 2 cheat codes do work for new characters, but not for characters that you are loading in.
Yes, so far I only implemented some new codes, as I assumed most people would start with a saved character. I will try to implement the codes from part 1 in the coming months…

I will look at Tokyo Wizard next.

(I know I haven’t replied to everybody else in this thread, and I have placed the suggestions on my “list to do”… I will try to get to those in the coming month or two… atm I got very inspired and I am wring like crazy!)

Can confirm this is still happening. Apologies to clarify my previous reply, when it loops back again the second time(first time still takes you to reception desk), it brings you back to the “selecting your powers based on X hero/villan points” scene rather than the reception desk.

Additionally, it looks like the Absolute Zero Blast is not enabled on water powers but it is enabled on Air and Shadow, is it by chance intentional to exclude it from the water powers? It does seem to make the most thematic sense to have that attack be allowable to water most of all but I may be wrong about the physics or lore behind it  (apologies for another one: Light doesn’t have access to supernova attack - ok I’m sorry I’ll stop now)

Thank you again for taking a look at this!!

Sorry it took me so long to get to this, I was busy with other stuff related to Life as a Lich.

But, I finally sent CoG a fix today, they should receive it Monday (I think I managed to do a delay send). Anyway, hopefully a fix will be working sometime next week. If it is still not working by the end of the week, let me know… I hope I understood what was wrong, but sometimes then that creates another bug!

Indeed, at the moment the Zero Blast is only working for Air and Shadow… should it also be available for Water powers? (I am also not sure about all these… I am happy to change them, if there is a broad agreement on them… it is a very easy fix).

Definitely should. Water is as good for “cold” as the other two. Because ice is nice.

@Ramidel @YuleKitten Ok, I enabled Absolute Zero Blast for water and Supernova for light… however, they will only be working next time the game is updated (not sure when I will do that, but it is on my “To do” list to try to send an update for HoV to CoG in the coming weeks…

I cant find a way to get the rebellion to be succesful, I never have enough time to prepare the rebel cause to take down the garrison during the final tournament, after meeting that rebel person I can only recruit a bunch of mercenaries and maybe do another thing here and there but none of that is enough to succeed with the rebellion.

What do I need in order to take down that garrison?

You need more than mercs to win, you need a massive army to take down the garrison, is your MC a Vampire or has took over the Red Drug Syndicate as a villain?
