Guenevere (WIP)

Poison is always a possibility to kill someone. You don’t have to be magically talented for that, you just need a reasonable knowledge of the nature around you. Even a childhood in the countryside would be enough to gain the necessary knowledge (at least I learned what plants to avoid because they are poisonous and potentially deadly).

The hard part about poison is usually to get your hands on it without anyone knowing, getting it inside your victim without anyone noticing, and getting away with it once the victim is dead. All three would be possible for Guen: access to various substances, having direct personal access and having a relatively solid position as the queen (which would mean that someone would have to procure extremely good evidence to go against you).

It wouldn’t be reasonable to have her poison Scarface though. While it would be theoretically possible that she could brew it the night before, it’s relatively unlikely. She is the Queen riding on the battlefield with two personal knights as a guard. If she isn’t soldier Guen fighting on the frontlines (which, by the way, seemed highly unusual to me), she wouldn’t expect to see any action. And even if she does, it’s not the kind of action where she would need some poison. At least as long as she doesn’t start fighting with poisoned weapons, which would be an extremely bad idea on a battlefield (the risk of wounding yourself or one of your allies would be way to high).

I don’t think anything other than good old violence would fit for killing Scarface. Even the magical ritual I mentioned before wouldn’t be plausible since it isn’t likely to be set up in the middle of a battlefield with only a couple of minutes to spare before Arthur shows up.

Really loving this one! You did a terrific job and I look forward to seeing more

This game is becoming really popular ,awesome! Merry christmas everybody >:D<

I loved this game so much that it actually inspired me to make a forum account for the first time (not that I hadn’t thought about it before) so that I could congratulate you.

This was amazing. A-bloody-mazing. Give yourself some cookies or something.
I had just finished playing Choice of the Deathless, and I thought I’d play one quick CoG demo before going to sleep, and this was the first one. It is now 245 am, Christmas night.
First of all, I really enjoy romance in these games. I mean, who doesn’t want a heap of sexy mens piled in front of you? And this was just the right balance between romance and fantasy action. And fantasy is great.
This story caused me to laugh so many times - it didn’t hold back on innuendos (!) And I loved every single one of the characters.

But may I express a particular squealing love for Lancelot? Yes? Is there a fan club somewhere? Forgive my otaku-heart, but the whole forbidden affair thing is really worthy of some kind of nosebleed. Please, hurry, I don’t know how much longer I can wait for more of this!
The direction that Arthur’s character was taken in was really interesting, and I liked him a lot - so much that I actually felt a little bad about lying and cheating on him! The friendship between those two love interests was so amusing and true I didn’t want to come between it! The detail about lancelot giving Arthur tips was too hilarious!
And the dialogue options! So vast! The ability to lie! I was never forced into something I didn’t want to say.
It would be nice to have the stats go up a little more quickly, but I’m sure that’s being dealt with.

All in all, please, please, please write more of this! I’m starved for more!
Think I’m going to have to find a fiction book on Guen to read now, but I’m having difficulty finding anything as cool as this!

@RedReaper Innuendo? Huh? I must have completely missed it. Anyway, if you’re going to set up a Lancelot fan club, I’ll join. He’s the kind of charming, joking but considerate character I’m particularly fond of. Which makes choosing between him and Arthur that much harder >.<

@RedReaper @RingoStar
If you guys are planning to go all fan club, count me in! :-bd
I’ve found myself swooning over Lancelot and Arthur countless of times already in most of my playthroughs! 8->
Lance cares so much for Arthur that it makes me want to cry and Arthur is so inexperienced with girls so he needs a little push a nudge now and again and that it makes me want to self implode! Seriously, good job on Lancelot and Arthur, @jeantown! ^:)^
That said, as much as I love awkward romance Arthur, the part of me that loves him does hope that he’ll get better at… loving Guen? [-O< (if you catch my drift which I’m sure you do)

Also! I was wondering who you imagined as Guen, Morgana, Arthur and Lancelot? If you could fancast them, who would they be?

I’m not sure how I’ll be able to choose between them but I fully look forward to it!

Well I just joined forces to play this game… And is awesome! but sadly take away a good range of options.

Hunger power anger and revenge… here is all hippie love and friendship … I just want kill arthur no sense kill Lancelot and Nah I like Morgana. where is the option i want torture my own killer? . Dont get me wrong is well written and funny… but ejem I need some evil plot some revenge some lust and war… No with Lancelot ahhg he is a ugly bastard french … I was hopping a option to stab him poison him or better make a complot to accusse of try to rape the queen, and make Arthur hang him … oh that would great anyway Arthur probably never kill his real love Lancelot, is so obvius … but at least some lie answer will be apreciated.

Hey everybody! I have gotten swept up into a bunch of family stuff for today and tomorrow (mainly cooking a huge dinner for a bunch of people tomorrow night), so I probably won’t get to post much, but I’ll still check in and read the thread when I can. Thanks to @Pepper, @MaddiMastermind, and @MaraJade for reading and for the nice comments! @MaraJade, Guen should have some options to be more deceitful in the future.

And @RedReaper, your post was the last thing I read before I went to sleep after an exhausting Christmas Day, and I wish you could have seen the huge smile on my face. You made me wish I could just stay up all night and write more! I’m thrilled that you enjoyed the game and the characters that much. Once I get through these next few days of crazy family-hosting, I should have a little time to myself to get serious about part 2.

@ceecrab I don’t need to fan cast merlin. There’s only one way I’m going to imagine him ever. http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/A_wizard_did_it

The others are more difficult. I don’t really think of them looking like specific actors, more like a crazy mix of people from my various fandoms. I sort of imagine Arthur as a cross between Alistair from Dragon Age, and Robb Stark from GoT. And I sort of saw Morgana as Morrigan from Dragon age. I couldn’t really help myself.

I didn’t really imagine that much of a face for Guen (I bet many people sort of insert themselves into CoG games like reader X fics). But I did amuse myself thinking of sunlight princess Gwynevere from dark souls. Don’t think Arthur likes butts quite that big…
As for Lancelot… Well… I’ll admit he ended up looking a little like the Internet’s beloved Mister Hiddleston, but somehow I also imagined him with a hairstyle of extreme angst. All dark and wavy, wild hair that often accompanies tsundere anime characters…

@jeantown. No, thank YOU for giving me yet another crush on a fictional character! (How many is this now? 25? 26? It’s not very healthy.)

I was wondering as I played this again, what everyone named their pet dog/cat. It’s a very bad idea to let me choose my character names, because I always make them crude and immature . I can’t help it. I called my dog “Sexbad”. (Bro team anyone?) I’m incorrigible.

@RedReaper omg that is absolutely brilliant! Well Arthur and Alistair do have that cute awkward thing in common! I hear you, I keep imagining them as DA characters too, especially Morrigan as Morgana! But since I envisioned Morrigan it was easy to switch to Eva Green or Katie McGrath (which is kind of fitting considering she was Morgana in Merlin :> )
I can’t imagine anyone young as Arthur because the only two people who keep coming back to me are Michael Fassbender and Tom Hiddleston for some reason! Ugh both so ruggedly handsome and not 17 at all!
For Lance, it was always Cary Elwes in his The Princess Bride or Robin Hood: Men in Tights days! So that made falling for Lancelot easier since he was cute as heck in my head! 8->
Guen’s face was always blank to me as well. I can never picture myself in her or any of the CoG for that matter. It always made me feel really weird!
Hahahah for my cat, I sort of made an ode to Anders from DA2 and named him Sir Pounce-A-Lot. And that made the scene where Arthur suggested that we knight our cat a little more funnier because then he was “Sir Sir Pounce-A-Lot”.

I couldn’t imagine Lancelot pretty i hate him since kid, he is a treacherous bastard that fake a friendship with Arthur, but they only desire in all time is banging with the queen and all women he couldn’t be loyal even with queen.

Young Arthur is stupid period, old arthur slowly become a men obsessed with alcohol, and a tyrant…

I like this version but after read the classic by The Troyes i m missing all the blood, lust, and revenge so medieval.

So i sujest if i choose fake a romance with Arthur discover a gay relationship between Lancelot and Arthur… and use against them also there would be another man to love ? well i at least have Morgana i hope help her to kill her husband.

@Marajade There’s a number of different interpretations of Lancelot.
Just take the myth concerning Galahad’s birth, for instance. (Quoted from Wikipedia).

“After Sir Lancelot rescues her from a boiling bath, Elaine falls in love with him. In order to seduce Lancelot, who is in love with Queen Guinevere and would not knowingly sleep with another woman, Elaine goes to her serving woman, Dame Brusen, for help. Dame Brusen gives Lancelot wine and Elaine a ring of Guinevere’s in order to trick Lancelot into thinking Elaine is Guinevere.”

If a woman had been given drugged wine and tricked to bed a man not her husband (in fact isn’t Arthur’s origins a bit like that) that’d be considered rape. Well it’s the same for Lancelot.

There’s a number of women throughout Arthurian legend who fall for Lancelot. He can be a bit of a Mary-Sue character, the most perfect of all the Knights, all the women throwing themselves at him, the King adores him, he can defeat dozens of men on his own, he’s always off fighting Giants, etc, etc. But I think he can also be an interesting character.

I like Jeantown’s take on him so far, just as I like her take on Arthur.

Arthur too is interesting. Raised a peasant with no family, thrust into a role he never expected. He’s a very young King, one who wasn’t raised to be so. I think it gives him a unique insight into the needs of his people, and those dreams of equality and his Knights of the Round table, are born of that I think.

That said, I’d be all in favour of encouraging a relationship between Arthur and Lancelot. Be that from just inviting Lancelot to join us when he breaks into their room on the wedding night. Really, who does that? Was he waiting outside the window for you to finish? Was he going to shout out directions to Arthur in case he forgot?

Ok, @Jackrabbit and others may be pleased to know that it did cross my mind long ago that there might be some Arthur/Lance shipping. (And this would hardly be the first version of the Arthurian mythos for which that was the case.) So let’s just say I am not completely oblivious to such things, and leave it at that for now. >:)

But personally, with the way I’ve built the characters, I kind of ship Lance/Morgana. But maybe that’s just because I like to hear them bickering in my head.

And since I’m confessing things, I will also mention (@ceecrab) that I had more than one test-playthrough in which the fae pet was named Ser Pounce-A-Lot.

Oh but Lance and Morgana grew up with a sibling-like relationship. Surely that would be as bad as Arthur and Morgana? Besides, Morganna’s already married to a man, she has enough men in her life. They’re annoying nuisances, that husband, those sons, her brother and Lancelot too. What she needs is Guenevere, now there’s two women, married to Kings, who can understand each-other in a way no man can.

@FairyGodfeather, I do like that version too, very much. Of course, that leaves Arthur and Lancelot all alone with no one but each other…

We’ve got some yaoi fans here… Can’t say I didn’t think about it while playing. I gave Morgana the polygamy angle when she asked me what I was going to do about Lancelot. I almost wanted to start singing the chorus of Lonely Island’s 3-way.

I swear there are heaps of legends about Lancelot lancing Guenevere. A lot. Though I know nothing of these things.

The last thing I want to happen though, while playing, (in the middle of struggling to balance my two relationships, and keep the affair a secret) is walk in on Arthur and Lance making out. That would be one hell of a soap opera plot twist. It would leave poor Guen out of the picture, without any man candy, and the Otome factor would be gone!

I find yaoi, as a genre, problematic in nature. It’s not grounded in reality. There’s a tendency to feminise one of the men and demonise any women.

I do enjoy literature and games with queer themes though, and there are some queer themes in Arthurian legend. The Lancelot/Guenevere/Arthur love triangle is certainly a frequent theme. I’ve a friend who’s an Arthurian scholar, he did his thesis on it, and he says that that wasn’t always the case.

I strongly doubt there’s anything going on between Arthur and Lancelot in this game. Maybe with a little encouragement from Guen, and with her as a participant, and of course they’d just be doing it to keep her happy.

I can definitively say that Guen will not randomly walk in on Arthur and Lance making out, because there is no making out to walk in on. That said, I have yet to write anything that doesn’t have at least some queer themes (that aren’t just lame queerbaiting; at least I hope not). As @FairyGodfeather says, the Arthurian tradition has some interesting things to offer in that department (and not just the L/G/A love triangle, either).

Well then, things sure got interesting real fast! I’m not that all familiar with the Arthurian legend but if there’s a chance that my Guen could get both Arthur and Lance, I’m not opposed to it at all! And are we allowed to swear in the forums because imagining my Guen being The Queen with Arthur and Lance by her side is just freaking amazing >:) Although I do imagine that in the case this does become a thing, Arthur will be overshadowed by Lance because

@jeantown Everyone needs a Ser Pounce-A-Lot in their lives! All I need is for some spirit of Justice/Vengeance to merge with Guen and I’ll have turned her to Anders! Also, if Lance wasn’t under the love potion, do you think that he’d eventually fall for Guen anyway?

And can I just say that I’m really happy that I joined in and commented on this thread? Before, I didn’t use this account at all because I was always shy and this account was rotting away and I felt bad about making it. But I’m really glad I pushed my nerves away for this thread!

I dont know the Quentin de troyes version in XII, focus to much in a weird private relation Arthur with Lancelot and spanish vision of Lancelot is almost painting as a girly yaoi stile . But i don’t know many of arthuric leyends and britanic perspective i know us and is clearly more cynical than yours and our bards love picaresque bisexual innuendos is the spanish style.

But poisoning Lancelot and Arthur to love each other show the scandal to court blaming him of terrible things and anounce im pregnant but both of our male try to kill me… that could be a hell of twist.

By the way i dont say any hetero romance believable. Dunno why, too much yaoi vibes for me your men are so gay that i dont imagine a girl with them i hope some hetero appear soon maybe a fae like a glowing elf …
