No problem! I did find Unatural of what I played to be similarly expansive, but horror rarely appeals to me as a genre. Project Leap and this sounds interesting though!
Yeah Unnatural scratches my horror itch. Rookfall would scratch my fantasy one. Sadly Project jump/leap has been shelved as the idea isn’t blooming like it should.
@Nocturnal Stillness
I guess it depends on the horror, sci-fi like Alien or stuff with Zombies interests me but little else. Oh that’s a shame! I’ll see if I can keep the Time Travel types sated with Chronological Caverns then.
Rookfall nevertheless seems impressive so far.
@Nocturnal_Stillness Finally got around to briefly trying another WIP on here, and I was naturally curious to see what your new project was all about! I especially like the innovative way you’re using bold & italics for the option type (I can see this idea being ‘borrowed’ a lot in future…
) and multi-choice for such as stance / blow style in combat. Both ideas work very well and suit this particular type of game perfectly.
The story itself is very engaging and has great potential. Looking forward to this.
Thanks and “borrow” away
The Rookfall teaser looks interesting, would love to see more. I hope that there will be more non-combat choices though. So many choices for how to kill individual opponents is cool and all, but I’ve never been the hugest fan of killing, (In case you didn’t notice from my tons of suggestions for non-lethal resolutions to the werewolf missions in Unnatural.) so it’d be cool if we got a comparable level of detail in our non-killing related endeavors, unless that just doesn’t fit with the game.
Yes, you will have several jobs to choose from (escort, hunting, keep defense, attack keep, tracking, bodyguard etc) It can have lots of combat but the right character can have a relatively non-combat experience too.
The fighting choices will always be in the stance/blow format. But there will be non-combat options.
Although there is a war in the background, how involved you are will be completely upto you. It’ll be perfectly possible for you to do non-combat jobs only. Sure depending on your choices you *might* have to have a fight now and then but it’ll be your choice that leads/or avoids it
Loving it so far, but would it be save to say, considering you are a hired mercenary, that there will be a lot of fighting? not to say you have to kill your way through it(having choices to spare people could alway add future involvement with them), but it is fighting orientated? And These jobs you meantion, will this game play out like unnatural? Where we’re given a list of possible contracts to choose from?
I noticed there was an unarmed combat skill, but no option to go into at least the first battle unarmed…
Also, will there be a more in depth demo out any time soon? I am quite interested in seeing more of this.
yeah the first fight is during a major battle and I didn’t think someone would bring a fist to to an Axefight lol
the plan is to write a teaser for the martial arts wip then let people vote for their favourite while I work on my side project for bill1903
Okay I’ve done the teaser for the martial arts game currently called Path of the Fist, the teaser is shorter because Rookfall started off as a story so has a bit more world building already done.
So here are your two choices to vote for what you’ll like to see next…
***Choice One***
Rookfall
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/82599458/rookfall-wip/Rookfall/web/mygame/index.html
***Choice Two***
Path of the Fist
Thought of a martial art which you could add in
Aikido
I kept waiting for the old guy to say, “Ahh, grasshopper…” but aside from that, yep, it was fun.
Of the two, I still prefer Rookfall though.
Edit: Solved that problem, I called myself Grasshopper… Much better!
Hm… it’s kind of weird that two of the stances’ Japanese names are English words pronounced with a Japanese accent.
I think I’m liking Rookfall more but that might just be cause there’s more to the preview. I didn’t really feel like I had any idea what to expect once I finished PotF.
@Vendetta Aha ahh grass hopper you did very well but I will swat you’ like a fly
Lol
I stuck a bunch of english words into Google translate so thats probably why lol
stances are supposed to be north, south, east and west. The schools dragon, tiger, snake, crane and monkey.
Yeah, Crane is Tsuru and Dragon I can’t remember right now but I’ll look it up…
Ryuu. Apparently. I never could remember the compass directions, but I suppose I could look those up for you too to make sure they’re correct.
Writing that teaser was harder the story wasn’t flowing like I want it to.
