Lol of course that’s fine. I’m not forcing anyone to believe that my theory is the best one. Your Re-Gene theory makes sense actually. What I wanted to bring up is that that MC’s actions may not entirely be their own. I don’t really have a solid theory on the “why” bit
Your theory is certainly interesting I don’t deny, I just find the evidence for mine to be a bit more compelling. Though like you said, I’m not trying to force anyone to believe mine is correct either. Watching people come up with their own theories is actually quite fun I find.
Oh and @malinryden, I found another gender typo, "Ortega chokes back a laugh that would have made her spray his drink everywhere.
Is there a way to get my MC’s daring high enough to beat her in a fistfight? Or should I just pull an Arael (Neon Genesis Evangelion reference) on her?
You need 70 of daring, just choose the actions that rise Daring, but you will need to restart the game. And remember you need the Strenght upgrade or the Speed upgrade too.
And I don’t know what you meant about Arael.
I know this isn’t likely to happen, but I entertain idea of pissing off Mortum enough they sabotage your armor.
Alternatively, of being liked by Mortum enough and looking so miserable they decide “you” are better off without “your boss” and install a tracking device or something, making a deal with Rangers to exchange “boss” for “your” safety and freedom.
Highly improbable, but the reveal would be delicious.
@malinryden, who are the romance options and can you post the outline of the whole story including the parts yet to be written without being spoil-ish?
Found a typo. It should be Dr Mortum’s, I guess.
Dr Mortus’ finest work he claims, well, after tonight you will know for sure.
I found romancing Dr Mortum is delighting. I made the puppet romance Dr Mortum, while my MC tries to romance Ortega. They’re both adorable
As far as it is, you can romance Mortum and Ortega through your puppet and also Ortega yourself.
As for outline, MC is ex-hero/sidekick/heroic-ish freelancer turned villain/anti-villain with probable vendetta against government/your former colleagues and/or noir grades of fatalism/dissapointment in life in general. Good old thirst for power, money, fear and respect are also viable.
Maybe that helps.
It’s a Neon Genesis Evangelion reference. Arael is a monster with powerful psychic abilities that… well… is the reason why TV Tropes has this.
I didn’t know who is your rival affected so much I’m impressed!
it make me wonder how picking yourself as a rival will affect the rest of the story
@silent15
for your theory, the mc can say that about another Re-Gene ''You don’t want to hurt him, after all if things were different you could be in his shoes. ‘’
Good catch, I must have missed that one.
Very interesting insight into how you’re handling the stats. I realized that there must be a lot of conditionals and alternate text in the story, but wow… I’m impressed. Keeping all that straight can’t be easy.
[details=Typos:]no… Not an equal. If you are going to be completely honest with yourself, you wanted him to fear you.
Think that “no” should be capitalized.
Part of you wants to reveal that it was you that took possessed her that first time as well,
Either just possessed or took possession of.
No major damage, but that’s only a matter time.
Missing an “of”.
following the dotted track on your HUD display inside your helmet.
Might be a little pedantic, but since the D stands for display, you’re technically saying display twice

I’m a little disappointed that after beating Argent, I need to save her in order to take a DNA sample. Can’t I pull her up, take the sample, then push her back in?
I heard some people mentioning killing Argent? I got the option to let her potentially drown, which she clearly won’t, superheros are never dead if you don’t see the body. Was that what people referred to, or is there something more certain and conclusive you can do?
So what’s all this talk about rivals? Was that something you determined at some point, perhaps the choice of who you saw in the mirror when training? I picked myself, so does that mean I don’t have a rival? Or maybe I’m my own rival, that actually sounds kinda fitting with the themes of the story.
It means you are your own rival.
I’m curious to see how being Marshal Steel rival will affect the history.
Replayed through it again, and I think I finally figured out why I’m in love with this game so much.
It reminds me a lot of noir detective stories. Most superhero games and movies I’ve seen are obsessed with origins. It’s all about MAKING the hero rather than the hero being. . .well, a hero. Here, you’re curious about the origins of Sidestep and fed just enough to keep you there, but at the end of the day its not really about the makings of a superhero.
It’s the story of a broken one, and their attempts at moving forward after they just couldn’t “Save the day.” Whether that’s by taking a different direction and becoming what they used to hate, or by toeing the edge, still criminally working to take down whatever it is that wronged you but clinging to the tatters of idealism you still might have had.
It’s got a gritty sort of feel a lot of mainstream “Superhero” media just doesn’t have.
For me it’s the characters that make me like Fallen Hero so much, they really feel three-dimensional wich make me want to know more about them. The mc in particuliar is the best main character that I played in any COG in my opinion.
all of that together make me feel more involved in the story than getting the ‘‘right’’ choice or trying to ‘‘win’’ wich I feel refreshing.
Good lord, my respect for you just went up tenfold, I can’t even begin to imagine how hard it is to keep up with all those variables! I knew there was a reason this was my favorite WIP on this site (other than Ortega, of course).
Just a small apology to everyone who happened to be in here and watching when I had my little meltdown. You see, one of the reasons why I am sometimes overwhelmed by real life, is that I am suffering from panic attacks, is a super introvert, and has more than a few control issues. Hence game designer :). However, this can sometimes lead to trouble when presented with things beyond my control.
Like people being shown how to read my code.
I know that people check the code of games, I would too if I could be arsed. I understand that it can be a valuable tool to get to code better, and to see how other people think when they plan their games. Not to mention the fact that you can read paths you might never gave got to otherwise. I get that.
The reason why I reacted so badly is that somehow my brain became convinced that the only reason you people liked my game was that I had managed to fool you, and that by looking at the code you would realize that there was nothing there, and all the magic would be lost. So my brain entered panic attack mode, and for the first time in a while, decided to vent online. Bad idea. I usually try to avoid the net when I feel like that, but I had some free time at work and a phone. Yes, working the evening shift can turn me into a certain orange twitter fiend.
The good part of it is that my little online venting meant that I cleared my head in hours, rather than let this angst fester for weeks before dropping offline for months. Yes. That has happened.
So, I want to assure everyone that yes, I don’t mind you checking the code, but be aware that there might be more and more spoilers there for things to come, so if you like being surprised, perhaps stay away from it. Also, please, for my sake of mind, be gentle. This is the first game I code, and there will be a lot of rewrites and fixes once I go back and fill things out. Also, please don’t post how in this thread, there are threads specifically about that on the forums. Just look around.
And finally I want to extend a huge apology to @Doomspeak who got the brunt of my meltdown, and was super polite about it. Sorry about that. I don’t like losing control like that, looking back at the posts/PM’s… wow my brain even turned off my language when it was angsting.
Now, back to work…
I understand your angst.
I also am here as a loyal supporter and wanted to tell you I love your story for several reasons:
- Your writing style
- Your action scenes
- Your character development
So, if you ever feel that deceptive practices are why I like your story, just refer back to this post. It is because I adore your writing.
Dude. This is not just one of the best WIPs I’ve read. This is one of the best CoG games I’ve read period.
Even if the code behind it all was a mess (and I doubt that it is) it doesn’t change the fact that the end product is downright amazing. You’ve got me more invested with the PC, Ortega and the rest, than I have been with full-length novels or TV shows.
And you know what? I’d cheerfully bet everything I own that everyone else on this thread feels the same way.
Muahaha my evil plan the whole time was to make you explain all the secret stats to me in a nice tidy post. Thank you.
Exciting.
Does this come first over the other things? Because Herald will never not be my eternal rival.
There’s should be a way to circumvent this if you wanted.
I posted the things in the order they are picked, so yeah, daydreaming about Herald is somewhere in the middle
And I am okay with people looking at the code now, it was just very much a shock when I first learned of it. I have calmed down now.
