Fallen Hero: Rebirth is released - discussion thread! (Book One)

Yeah plus we can’t affect Ortega with any telepathy so at the very least they would notice.

I think our body that we wake up in the beginning is ours, and that the puppet is a Re-Gene precog planted to trap or track us

@varroth Here are one of the lines that raise some suspicions In a world of muscle-bound heroes and hulking brute villains, you’re not the most masculine of men, but you were never meant to be one of them.

All you had to do was look, talk, and stand the way you were supposed to, and make sure nobody would notice anything odd.

These theories are starting to get really complicated

So far, the game really gave me a Subject Zero/Jack vibe from Mass Effect 2. Is it possible that before Re-Genes, they tested or tried to use humans? MC seems to have had some kind of childhood and grows old at a normal rate. I don’t really think we’ll get answers until the 2nd game at least.

Imagine if you were technically using a form of psychic powers at all times by projecting a mental image of what you be personally thought the host you were in looks like. But you can’t use other powers because of the trauma

We know they didn’t have parents, birthdays, or Christmas, and in the beginning there’s a line about dreaming of their childhood that involves weird people peering at them. I included it below but between that and the “farm” and a line about “forced conformity” during the hairstyle selection, I have a strong sense of the MC being a clone rather than abducted like Jack.

Got curious so I went and found the text. These are dreams you have after you retrieve the box in the beginning and fall asleep

Tonight, they are almost gentle, sinking deeply in the warm amniotic fluid of childhood. Tubes and cradles and goldfish faces peer down at you, distorted by glass and fluid.

The tattoos are meant to warn people yes, but I also think they’re there to mark their agents. It keeps them in line. You can’t run away, you’re a walking target. And every time they’d look at themselves in the mirror they’d be reminded of exactly that: they’re not people, they’re propriety.

If the re-gene theory proves true then we know, thanks to the MC, that re-genes are people. They’re capable of rational thought and emotions just like people born the natural way. So they must be kept in control, they’re brainwashed. So on top of everything else, the tattoos are meant to keep them in line.

So maybe that’s why they marked the MC as well. They were not meant to develop personal bonds, I’m sure. They didn’t want the MC to hang around the beach and make some friends. The MC would just do their mission and return. They could mark the MC’s body safely without compromising the mission.

Also, it’s a good way to track one if one ever ends up running away - if someone sees it, they’d call them.

Makes me think if the MC is actually the first ever re-gen to escape the Farm. Maybe there are others out there…

If you attract the attention of the farm, they say “one of” the cuckoos may have been spotted… so I think you’re right there may be more. Also Hollow Ground is suspiciously the same race and gender as the MC.

Meh, my mc is more of a rebel for synthetic and AI rights who does want to topple the current government (or at least secede the New West Coast from it.
Seems the mc was made/bred to be a leader, would be a shame if we let that go to waste and using the tools they gave us against them is just the icing on the cake. Just need to find a way to get the mc get themselves into a better shape again so he can stand looking at himself in the mirror again. Hopefully the villainy will help with that.

Now I’m imagining an army of Re-genes all being controlled by you to destroy the farm and possibly conquer the world.

Well if that’s what it takes, that’s what it takes right? In a way the story certainly hints at the fact they are the mc’s people, and the mc is a Re-Gene themselves, just one made to be a leader and be (somewhat) attractive and have no weird skin colour or disfiguring tattoos (at least on their face and presumably most of their body. They may or may not have a small thing like a barcode or something somewhere less conspicuous though. My mc did feel more guilty killing the Re-Gene then he does about most of the other damage he’s causing.

Most likely MC escaped before they completely change his/her skin colour and reform him/her… i suspect Locus is MC’s replacement . because Re Genes need a super telepath , seems like Locus telepathy power is equal (if not greater than MC)… anyway, i didn’t need to kill the Re Genes to get that plasma cannon

Nope you don’t need to but choosing to “lead” the WolfPack so they do and as a way to face our fears and “test” if we can go against them when it inevitably comes to that is the more satisfying route to me. As far as changing the mc’s skin colour there is a line somewhere in the game about them making sure the mc is/was attractive. Making weird alterations would defy that purpose. Though it is possible they did try something as a “punishment” for the mc’s first escape, which may be why it went from merely difficult to impossible for them to look into the mirror now. In their previous life as Sidestep they seem to have been handsome enough and likely didn’t have more then an embarrassing barcode tattoo, if that, on their body.
It is certainly possible that Locus is from a newer model-line created to replace the one the mc (possibly the puppet if you make them look like the mc) and Hollow Ground are from. If so then she may or may not be more powerful then the mc, they might also have discontinued the mc’s model line, despite its potential, due to the problems with “non-conformist” tendencies of the models. Maybe Locus is simply more obedient. Though if Locus is from the Farm too then, given her previous hero status she’s likely to be fellow escapee who might have been recaptured just like the mc was after the Heartbreak incident.

@sljzz what is with this “will squashing”? how does this work? do you mean to say that those options crush the MC’s will? or the puppet’s? or maybe the more you do it, the more the puppet becomes conscious?

wait what??!

i knew about the shaving but didn’t know about this! i think i chose this option in my first playthrough but i can barely remember. does he really do it? O.O as someone who pictures m!Ortega as Oscar Isaac, i am reminded of Llewyn Davis and tbh i greatly approve :sob::heartbeat:

on another note, re: puppet

somehow, i do think so too. finding the puppet is just too convenient. comatose attractive person with no kin and friends? it seems too good to be true. i don’t think the puppet is really a tracker but i do think that it was a bait by The Farm. the MC’s powers grew powerful after being their disappearance (which was most likely orchestrated by The Farm). i think the Farm just purposely made MC think they escaped. this is to see just how powerful their guinea pig without intervention from them. the puppet is probably a bait they left to kind of assist MC with whatever their plan is.

idk. just food for thought.

I think this has been mentioned in the thread before (or if not here, then in the excitement thread or the demo thread). I do believe in this theory too! The Psychopathor scene seems to have a lot of stuff that support this. You have MC stressing over the voice who answered the call, MC being very familiar with Re-Gene ranks and tactics, MC saying the grunt/follower could’ve been them when it comes to saving Rosie/Boris or the Re-Gene, etc. Even going to the gala as a puppet would have the MC overthinking about Re-Genes and their physiology.

If the MC is a Re-Gene, I think that it is possible that they were created to perfectly blend in society and secret destabilize or control it as per The Farm’s orders. Unlike the other Re-Genes, MC has natural (or at least natural-looking) skin while the others have purplish ones. The MC’s telepathy is also unique given that the Re-Genes we’ve seen so far have more physical (?) powers like creating fire, extra arms, claws, etc. MC also insists that they’re a special case in that they were born a telepath unlike the Boosts and Mods people.

It doesn’t seem plausible. Ortega and Steel worked closely with the MC for a long time and still recognize them. If MC is really the Puppet and was just using their powers to project, then Ortega wouldn’t have recognized them in the first place because the MC’s powers don’t work on them.

also, hey! your MC and puppet look alike. did you get the mirror image achievement then?

Yes I did. I feel my affection for Puppet is narcissistic which is funny given my MC’s self loathing.

These options decrease “puppet individuality”. Other options increases it, and the higher it gets the more your puppet is inclined to break away from you… (I think)

I used to believe the puppet was bait too, but since it’s showing signs of having powers of its own (Red Twelve), I’m not so sure any more.
It’s still probably Made by the Farm, but that kind of power is too useful to waste as bait.

@sljzz ohhh. then what type of options increase puppet individuality then?

either way, i still find it dubious that they just leave something/someone that valuable lying around. then again, it’s also possible that the puppet escaped from the facility too and then had a comatose (accident? fight? on purpose? idk.) at this point, it may even be possible that the puppet foresaw that the MC would be using them for a greater purpose against The Farm so they planned their coma.
