Fallen Hero: Rebirth is released - discussion thread! (Book One)

Yeah I pretended to be powerless hoping Ortega would leave me alone. But I imagine targeting the Sidestep memorial is pretty suspicious.

Yeah she’s gonna want to seat down for that one

I laughed out loud when I read this. I feel like going down that road (using your old moniker, AND your puppet to 'mance Ortega) is gonna give poor Ortega a complex and severe trust issues.

But on a more serious note, using “Sidestep” as your villain name is deliciously apropos if you’re rolling a MC who’s embittered and broken/disillusioned by the system–or the Rangers. A final “fuck you” to anyone (coughSteelcough) who doubted them. Among other things.

I don’t know. I wonder if you taking Sidestep as your villain name means that there is still part of you that clings to the past, that still clings to being a hero. In that sense, you never did reinvent yourself, and are just still Sidestep, only with fancy armour and stronger powers.

I agree with you on that… by using the old name, it seems contradict to the whole story about forgetting who you were… at most it is just like a “Face” wrestler turn “Heel” , and purposely doing exaggerated actions to make audience “hate” you … However , i am ok with it, the storyline seems cool … it will turn us into an Antihero instead of a Villain…

The occurrence of using Sidestep again is similar to that of CM Punk turn heel and lash out to Cena’s establishment , and in the end audience sided with Punk and boos Cena instead… thus urging Punk to turn Face again

I am fine with such story line , and i think it will be ultra-cool  so my MC turn heel and start destroying buildings and physical items without harming anyone, calling out the establishment authority and self proclaim to be “the Voice of the voiceless” … the government relent , and request a negotiation with my MC, I insist on a Public Negotiation in front of national TV … stating my terms (including full pardon) , just when i was about to sign upon the peace deal, Steel charge in and start blasting …i tear off the peace deal in front of the camera and blame steel for it  i think it will be fun

It seems that our protagonist is not just any strong telepathic, but a master telepathic.

I’m just hoping to release the Nanovores on an organic material . Especially the scientists at The Farm. I have no idea if I’m going to try and destroy the world, become an anarchist, or what. But I’m already wracking up a body count.

This would require reprogramming the nanovores to consume organic matter once again. Of course, Dr. Noctum can do it.

I’m just looking forward to finding out just how much cybertech Steel has; unleashing the little darlings on him, will there just be a head left from the neck up? I guess my MC could always stick it in a jar on her mantle as a trophy.

Trophy shelf of heads! We can put the possibly still alive head in a jar in the middle and the normal human heads of his team all around him.

I have wondered that about Lady Argent. She is made of silver. Would the nanovores devour her body thinking it is inorganic material?

A lot would depend on how the silver interacts with her body. A case could be made that while she has a metallic component, they could be bonded with the organic cells, and this would provide an interaction where the nanovores would eat (obviously this is pseudoscience I’m pulling out of thin air).

It is a shame we could not conduct a field test during the battle. It would have been interesting to see if it would work. Perhaps in the next installment.

I actually expect there to be a field test phase, especially as Steel figures out the nanovores are with the MC at some point.

Just remember, there is also something not quite human about Lady Argent as well

Just as the MC doesn’t fall into the Modded or Boosted groups of humanity, then Lady Argent is actually different.

This can be seen in how Lady Argent is actually able to build up a resistance to further mind controls when in a ‘normal’ person, further attacks should actually make them more susceptible in the future.

I would think Lady Argent’s body is still organic and have soul/mind of her own else, how was it possible for us to possess her ? To be able to control / manipulate the various organs and systems of Lady Argent , that only means her body is still organic …i remember she still need to breath in oxygen while breathing out Carbon dioxide … ( i notice this in my last battle with Lady Argent)

Oh I agree that she has a soul/mind of her own. However, there is just enough different there that she isn’t just a basic ‘human’, nor is she a Boost or Mod (this is one of the Achievements a person can get)

And is she a living entity, organic being? Of course. As you said, you can still influence her mind, and controls on her body. However, the more you do it, the more resistance she can build up to you…which is actually opposite of what I suspect a normal human would go through. Remember that dialogue about mental scarring/PTSD/etc. Lady Argent seems capable of eventually bouncing back from it.

But, the surface of her skin is probably a combination of both organic and inorganic elements, and this is what gives her the toughness, as well as the ability to manifest claws and blades.

I just wonder if it is possible to strip away the inorganic elements from heroes. Supposedly you would be able to do this against Mods, effectively crippling them near instantly, if not killing them. Perhaps the protagonist is overpowered in that respect. Perhaps, with Lady Argent, it is her skin which is silvery and inorganic, with normal internal workings. She needs to breath. She might need to eat, although I did not see that anywhere.

Nothing has suggested she is anything other than human. Lady Argent is essentially Collosos from the Xmen

The sewer fight and her eyes indicate maybe something besides you has been at her wheel

I have a feeling that this is something the writer is going to decide on a case by case basis. Of course, you could make the argument that most Modded people have external cybernetics, and just touching them and unleashing the Nanovores would be enough.

You could actually have a human who is Modded, but if it is all internal…as in, no artificial limbs, etc. then they would actually be immune to the current Nanovores.

Going into her mind does show associates her moods with food. Considering she breathes, feels pain, etc. it is safe to assume she needs to eat.

This is why I sort of put it in spoilers. @GenecoInheritor mentioned the exact scene; I forget what I triggered it, but I think enhanced telepathy was there, and it put you in mind of ‘sharks’.

During the sewer fight it was establishing she has a darkness to her and has no qualms killing you, something Heroes would never do
