To Herald: You have no idea… What is the most common kind of dream you have?
Herald: Falling. It’s really freaky honestly. I’d rather not have that, but I suppose it could be worse.
Enchanté, I am with Who Did Who magazine. Thank you for this pass to the Fallen Hero panel despite our recent claim that Ortega has love-children stashed all over the world just waiting to be activated and sent forth as mindless soldiers.
This is for little Herald: Despite Lady Argent’s harsh dismissal of the genuineness of your relationship, the impression I received is that you do hold some affection for her beyond the glittering tabloid veneer. Does it bother you that your feelings are, in all likelihood, not returned, but are also being stepped on?
To all of the not so lone Rangers: Thoughts when Sidestep revealed that they in fact retained telepathy despite what they had initially told their supposed confidant and former partner, Ortega?
Ortega: Although I am likely verging into hush-hush, spoiler-alert, future flashback territory, how did you first meet Sidestep? And what did you know of their past? Their had to have been some initial hesitance to combine forces.
Ortega: Why do you believe a young and socially awkward Sidestep, who by all accounts shunned the attentions and company of others, decided to allow you into their airspace and get close enough to grant post-battle smooching? And who was the first to initiate? Perhaps you can set the scene.
Ortega: Unlike fellow Boosters, why have you chosen to age gracefully and seemingly reject the desired state of perma-youthful preservation?
Dr. Mortum: What are your feelings towards “Puppet’s” mysterious boss? Are you prepared for the day when you might be viewed as a loose end?
And wrapping this session up with (surprise!) Ortega, once again: How suspicious are you of Sidestep’s Lazarus-like recovery? Have you considered that this might not even be the actual Sidestep, your Sidestep, that fell from that building a decade ago?
To Ortega: Sidestep has been out of action for a while now, and they are suddenly back, from nowhere, having made no contact for these last few years. Do you consider, at all, their lack of contact being intentional? Do you question what they’ve been doing this whole time? I know love is blinding sometimes, but aren’t you at all a little suspicious?
Or has Sidestep always been this private?
…have you ever thought why?
To Ortega: Any regrets over your old friend, Sidestep?
I have so many questions! Please don’t feel obligated to answer any of them. Certainly not all of them!
A question for Herald: Lady Argent has seemed more violent than usual ever since she survived the mind-hack. If it turns out Locus, the prime suspect, is innocent or worse — was herself a victim in the same attack — are you confident Argent will be able to focus her anger on the proper target?
A question for Charge: Your… friend? Let’s go with that. Your complicated friend, the former Sidestep, has alluded to painful experiences at the hands of powerful enemies. Do you have special procedures or tactics that would allow you to investigate such a group without accidentally notifying them their former victim is not only alive, but still in their area of activity?
Two related questions for Rosie: Psychopathor?! What was he like? Before the Special Directive showed up and set everything on fire, I mean. And how did you manage to escape that mess with all your fingers and toes intact anyway?
A question for Lady Argent: I’m going to assume your skin is inorganic by the standards of that stolen nanovore swarm, and thus safe from their flesh-eating activities. Please don’t correct me if I’m wrong. But… if (and by “if” I mean “when”) the nanovore swarm is deployed, will you be able to trust any of the known telepaths to hold the swarm still long enough you can do whatever kills a swarm?
A question for Dr. Mortum: If it turns out Yasmin’s mysterious employer is more than just psi-sensitive, and is the same nutjob that mind-hacked Lady Argent not so long ago, what steps can you take to get Yasmin to safety?
A second question for Charge, if it’s not too much: You were in the hospital recently, following your fight with that new villain. How many visitors did you receive?
Apologies again for clogging the topic with so many questions at once. I love Fallen Hero!
I feel like Sidestep and you should honestly go to therapy together, seems like you finally have something in common besides being heroes.Heh.
btw a question for sidestep.
Do you have a fear of heights since the heartbreak incident?
Julia is more attractive than you
Herald: Look here, Argent and I have an understanding. I know that she comes across as a bit harsh, but that’s why I like her. I get that you’re trying to get some headlines with me saying something bad about her, but I’m not going to. She’s a wonderful person. As for Sidestep? I mean… that’s good I suppose? They are retired, but they are a friend of Ortega, and I trust their judgement. Sidestep seems nice. If a little old.
Lady Argent: I can understand why Sidestep would want to keep their secrets…
Steel: I can not!
Ortega: Oh shut up Steel. We’ve heard enough of that. And I first met Sidestep when they saved my ass, so I am a bit biased. Unlike some, I have never had any issues working with vigilantes, just because they don’t work for the government doesn’t mean they can’t do good. I mean I know Sidestep have secrets, I’m not stupid, but we all do.
Steel: Not me.
Ortega: Shut up, Steel. And, no offense ma’m, but exactly who I have been smooching is none of your business.
Lady Argent: Oh I think it is.
Ortega: Shut up, Angie. And I’m not sure what kind of information you have on me, but I am a mod, not a boost. It’s all tech, and I happen to think I still look good for my age. Youth can be a dangerous illusion, just because you look the part doesn’t mean your insides do.
Dr. Mortum: Oh, they are a good customer for sure, with some intriguing projects I can work on. And, let me assure you madame, I am nobody’s loose end. In my kind of work you have to make sure that that you are valuable enough for continued patronage. Still… I have to say that I have considered some… alternative plans of action in case they should prove to be a threat to my interests.
Ortega: It’s Sidestep. I would know. I mean we fought together for years, I… well… I mean they are my friend. I would not be fooled by an impostor. Besides, if someone was impersonating them, they would have a reason for it, and since they haven’t really been more approachable since returning, that seems unlikely. That being said… something has happened to them. I have no idea what, but I wish they could talk about it, because I am getting worried. Really worried.
Ortega: Sidestep has always been private. Even back then. So that’s nothing new. Still, I’m not stupid. Something happened, I get that. They must have been badly hurt in the fall, and while I know from experience they can put people together from very little, I don’t see why it should be such a secret.
I hope that they will confide in me eventually. You can’t hurry these things, you can just try to be there, you know?
Ortega: Many. But regrets are really not that helpful, you know? I’d rather try to fix things in the future. If they would only let me.
How would Locus react to seeing the main character after hearing they are fairly weak and finding out full well that they are anything but?
You don’t have to answer this since the questions seems a unfair…
To Ortega: Gosh darn it, you’re such a honey bun.
But, really, have many people tried to manipulate you before, because you trust so easily?
Also, um, sorry pal, but Puppet may or may not be using you, and/or sleeping with other people. ^^; Hope you’re okay.
Herald: Argent does seem a bit scarier than usual, that’s true. I mean I get it, she was used and abused and I can’t even begin to imagine how that would feel. But she’s not a killer. Right? I am sure she would do the right thing.
Charge: I do have a few contacts, sure, but that’s not really what we do most of the time. We’re the Rangers, we’re the face of justice in this town, we’re not really investigators. I mean we do investigate, but there are other people who do that for a living. I suppose I could ask them, but then how could I be sure that they aren’t in on it? I mean I am already investigating a few things on the side, but this sounds a little out of my league.
Rosie: Oh boy, let me tell you all about that, or wait a moment, let me not tell you that, because there is going to be a lot about that in the new edition of this game thing that will be coming out, and I don’t want to spoil it. Girl’s got to make her money somehow.
Lady Argent: [laughs] Trust me on this, I have no worries when it comes to that.
Dr. Mortum: Well, well, it all depends whether they wants to get to safety. If they do… I have a few tricks. There is a reason why they picked me to work on their suit after all, I am no stranger when it comes to working with telepathic interfaces… or telepaths.
Charge: That’s private. I mean… a lot of people would have reason to visit me for various very official reasons. Nothing happened. At all.
Sidestep: No. I can’t afford to have a fear of anything.
Yeah you already have ortega and the farm for that I suppose.
Ortega: Hey, I will always be okay. If let life get to me I wouldn’t be where I am today.
((and bedtime for me, will answer more questions tomorrow. this was fun. Just no Locus ones, she’s not even in the book yet))
yes because pinning over your rekindled love for your ‘old friend’ is a great place to be.
