England 1519, in the Court of Henry the VIII - Tudor Intrigue - Ready to begin testing?

to be far everyone was pawn into arrange marriage who were of noble class.

I think it’s great that the male and female experience for a game like this should feel different. I know playing Affairs of the Court felt weird when you played it as a straight male given all the female versions of the romanced characters didn’t quite click right (though given I imagined the Queen to be like Elizabeth I that helped a little).

A little off topic but she did get a whole lot better she wrote her choice of steampunk which is fabulous. That’s something I always bother you when I first started playing this back when I was 17 still in high school 11 years ago.

Finally a Historical concept WIP I love it already

I love the presentation of the missions and having core locations that spoke outward to complete each branch.

My perception is that the missions themselves are at a developmental stage and I hope you deepen each to a considerable amount.

One thing regarding the romance: I’d prefer an asexual/ace route - perhaps act as Elizabeth; that way I can enjoy the politics, the war and the diplomacy.

Enough feedback for now.

Regardless of gender if you’re nobility and you’re playing court you’re going to have to get into somebody’s bed. Have pressure to get married son or daughter because you know it’s your duty. Two there when the easiest way is a building political alliances, and three they’re fantastic tool for court intrigue. Your protagonist can be Libertine but she still going to need to get married at some point. Minimally just for show.

In terms of mission; there is a lot to be fleshed out. But I want to keeping pushing forward with a skeleton too (in keeping with the anatomical theme).

I feel like the reader right now is a little aimless? I see some good Choice-Games on here set off some good “goal-setting” choices early on.

Right now I’m thinking of goals or a climax;

  1. Rank: Becoming King/Queen by either replacing or marrying Henry or at least advance to become a an important minister such as Cromwell.

  2. Religion; Making England Catholic or Protestant.

  3. Diplomatic: Expanding England’s power and influence; Henry was a pretty mediocre King in this regard compared to his father and second daughter.

  4. Royal Absolutism vs Pre-democratic; maybe Oliver Cromwell’s Parliamentary forces can be kicked off 100 years earlier or you/Henry can become a true absolute Monarch and roll back Magna Carta.

Yes to all of this and maybe you can make these relationships interconnected so you can have goals that are not opposing to each other as something that we mutually done. I don’t know how are MC can successfully claim the crown least the brother MC but if you have some cool way of doing it I would love to see it.

Getting to the highest rank making England a diplomatic power choose catholic a Luther. Maybe the pope can give you a backing in for the crown.

I wonder if we can get involved in conflict and war because many of his coutier are also commanders and soldiers. Become scholars graduating from Oxford etc. honestly I feel like you have a very open world feels the scab and keep it open world but with objectives and maybe you’re allowed to have multiple objectives or ambitions.

Is there a character the member of the gentry old nobility are they both are they did gentry that’s all the ability but no longer has their title. Sidenote of course it’s possible Gain honors, title lands knighthood etc.

I’ve been playing with the idea of making the character a Plantagenant descendant, thus a claim by blood to the thrown of England.

Henry VII, and by extension, Henry VIII had a dubious claim. I can make that a little more open ended. I see in some games you can make a trade-off of sorts of starting off from a strong position in the aristocracy as opposed to starting off in a more low-born role.

I say go with making them a direct if not distant descended from Plantagenet it even still in their family name. But down to small family estate by standard of there lineage. Would they broher being off as nobility or are we gentry

Disparate Thoughts after a Recent Update:

  1. Progress: Continuing to chip away… Adding just a lot more options. The next stage I’m going to open up a series of successive challenges. Depending if the character chose to pursue romance, diplomacy, politics, or conspiracy to influence England, certain options will open up.

  2. Technical Progress: I’m becoming a much faster writer… much of my time writing choicescript at first ended up trying to count spaces and correct poor coding. Still much room for improvement on my part.

  3. Looking forward to writing on diplomacy… I’m going to have a lot of fun on the historical conjecture of England making an alliance with France in 1520.

  4. Wider Plots, Goals for the Character - I’m trying to lay the groundwork for a plots to open up a claim to the throne for the character, either by appeasing/marrying/succeeding Henry VIII or perhaps overthrowing him.

  5. Character creation: I’ve noticed the best stories here allow for a reader/player to customize a character at the beginning getting more invested in the character. I should probably go back and do that. But I also want to press on forward because if I go back and correct and revise, I’ll never get anything done.

I love games that can change the history and Tudor is one of my favorite topics.

hopefully after you have written enough, you can establish MC’s background including MC’s Family name and MC and brother/sister’s names.
i love the idea of MC being a Plantagenant descendant. it gives excuses for MC having many opportunities to gain influences.

Are we also going to meet Henry FitzRoy and Bessie Blount?
it would be interesting if we can somehow butterfly away FitzRoy’s death.

If you can, it would be a great idea to have a history book page at the end of the game that talks about Tudor timeline. depending on what MC has established, MC could be written in the page along with brother/sister.
the page could include both how MC was thought of as during the time and later after MC’s death. and how MC’s influences changed the history even after MC’s death.

by the way, doesn’t it more natural to say Family than Clan? Boleyn family
isn’t Clan more Scottish thing?

I honestly think it’s perfect as it is now.

Fitzroy and Blount - I thought about Fitzroy but I hadn’t investigated him until I read your comment. I’ll get him in, but he’s born 1519 so he’s a toddler. It would be fun to have the characters interact with Bessie Blount as shed could give them both tidbits of wisdom and caution.

Long Term Plans - I’d like to get a whole two decades in (but pacing is an issue). Fitzroy could be adopted, tutored, or married to your own child (so long as he isn’t too closely related). Mary Tudor too. Elizabeth and Edward VI of course may never be conceived if you subvert their mothers.

If I have any word advice I think what you did there with the with the Oxford and Cambridge moment is it great example both interacting with a narrative and allowing stat deveploment. For example Mech Ace doesn’t tell you the main character’s name or rank until the third chapter. For example maybe you can find out the brother’s name during a knighthood.

i wonder if i can somehow marry Blount and adopt FitzRoy. then marry off my charming sister to Henry VIII. if my sister gives healthy son, then i would be a powerhouse.

if Henry becomes frantic because there’s no son from my sister, then i will push him to make FitzRoy the heir. if that doesn’t work, then i will take the throne for myself or FitzRoy before Henry comes up with incest, adultery, and treason for my sister and me.

If FitzRoy becomes King, then i will marry off Mary Tudor to him making her Queen to appease others and make sure heirs have better claims to the throne.
If I become King, then I will marry off Mary Tudor to my eldest son for the same reasons as above. then secretly kill off FitzRoy, so that he won’t become future troubles.

but if i don’t have male heir, then i would make FitzRoy my heir. and if i could, i will marry off my daughter to him, so that my bloodline continues in maternal line of royal family. of course, i won’t forget to make sure FitzRoy’s heirs adopt my family name. and secretly kill off Mary Tudor as if she died in illness, so that she won’t become future troubles.

it would be interesting to see beautiful Blount as Queen. and I could see the history book remarking how ironic that MC had stolen everything from Henry VIII including his mistress, illegitimate son, legitimate daughter, and finally his throne.

that would be fun!

Out of curiosity how involved militarily can the protagonist be? I know a lot of favorites and Henry’s court not just courtier but politicians soldiers even some faught on the continent. What was the military organization looking like that this period.

Love alternate history so I am all for giving the player the opportunity to change things for better or worse. The idea of a Mary Tudor who has no threats of heirs and then marries into the Spanish line, thus letting Spain effectively conquer England and make it firmly Catholic is a bit scary for one thing.

But definitely any chance to save Anne or alternatively help Catherine would be interesting.
