Duskguard [WIP] [50% of Prologue] [16K words] [Dark, Low, Medieval Fantasy]

I mean technically theres more than one scene that has that. Don’t forget the horse scene or Donovan.

I feel like you’re misunderstanding something here. We all know Berserk is something more than that, and this has been mentioned like 2 times already but we don’t hate it just concerned. So please for the people who kept misunderstanding it, we don’t hate Berserk and we know Berserk is something more than just THAT scene. So please can we accept that Berserk is an amazing inspiration and just move on already? This thread is being littered by offtopic comments so please for the sake of the author just stop making arguments

Thank you for the kind words and for taking the time to write all of this!

I hope I will accomplish my own goals and fulfill all of your expectations, people. For that, I’ll try my best.

Btw, how mystical is this world? I know this is diving in to little old spoiler zone but I gotta try lol
Are there gods in these universe that directly aid their favourite humans? Or is it more low key, like there’s no individual gods, but forces that disrupt or help mankind?

Oh yeah, gods definitely exist in this universe.

You can already see the mention of one of them in the prologue. However, they are not the stereotypical ones. I’m afraid that that’s as much as I can tell you to not break the mystery.

But, the next update will give you something to think about regarding this topic.

As for the update, it will be out in a week or two.

Yeah, I’ll make a Tumblr blog when the update will be released.

Hello, everyone! I’m here to say that I kinda underestimated the length of the prologue. It turns out that 16k words are not 50% of the prologue. Right now, it stands at 40k, but it’s still not ready. So, as an apology, I’d like to offer you a little sneak peek of one of the routes.

Sneak peek

With the torch in your hands and the dim light that emanates from its fire, you slowly descend the stairs, gazing into the darkness. However, you can’t help but notice how smooth the passage looks.

The overall formation seems stable and reliable, with some symbols visible on the walls. You can’t discern what any of them means. The stairs are nearly perfect, their edges straight and even.

There’s no way these two build it themselves.

With descending deeper and deeper, you start to realize that it becomes even harder to see. You briefly turn your head back, looking at the entrance - the light from the fireplace doesn’t reach here.

Having noted this, you continue to descend the stairs. At one point you stop and extend your hand with the torch down the tunnel. Then, your eyes catch something - the illumination from the flame has reached the ground.

Finally.

You step down a few remaining stairs and end up on the horizontal, stone floor. After that, you start to walk forward - there are no other pathways, just one straight corridor.

Some seconds pass, and you find yourself standing in front of some room’s entrance, its area fanning right and left. You hold out your torch, trying to see what’s in front of you.

There’s no path straight ahead - it’s a wall-

No, wait. That’s not a wall…

You narrow your eyes, peering into the darkness - dim light from the torch doesn’t help all that much. But, then, you see it.

It’s a pile of large rocks, or, rather, a part of the ceiling that collapsed. You can only wonder why. Did someone accidentally or purposefully damaged it, so it fell down? Or is this tunnel just that old? If that’s the case, then when it was built?

It seems like your only option is to turn right or left anyways.

You plant your back against the right wall, steadily and slowly moving along it. With the knife ready, you carefully tilt your head sideways to peek at the left path.

It turns out it’s not a path but a cavity with some kind of a statue in it. You bring the torch closer to its direction, your eyes trying to discern its details.

It’s a… woman, most likely. She’s dressed in an unrevealing, long dress, which color you cannot find out - only guess since the statue is made purely of stone. Her hair is also long, nearly reaching her feet. Her head is slightly tilted up, and her eyes are closed.

You see that her arms are extended in front of her while her hands are put together - it’s as if she’s trying to fill them with water.

Who may that be?

You can’t wonder too long - you still haven’t checked the right side.

You tilt back into your previous position, move away from the right wall, and press your back against the opposite one.

Then, shifting as slowly as you did earlier, you peek out of the corner, looking to the right now.

There’s a lot of space there, but you can’t see that far into the darkness even with a torch glowing. If you want to check it out, you’ll have to get closer.

You step out of the corner, observantly gazing into the dark.

Suddenly, your ears catch some quiet noise.

Something’s moving.

I’ll be creating another thread in an adult category, so I won’t have to worry about any of the content in the demo being deemed unfit for the non-adult category.

Here comes my question. Would it be okay to post update logs in both threads, noting that the non-adult demo is outdated and posting a link to the adult demo in the SFW thread?

Yes, it is okay to have both threads active; just keep it SFW here, and you’ll be good to go.

Thank you for the quick answer!

@moderators, could you please change the thread format into wiki so I can edit it? Thank you in advance!

Subtle foreshadowing…

Hello again, people!

I have come bearing good news - the first update is out!

It contains approximately 37k words, bringing the overall word count to 53k words. However, because of the new content, I decided to create another thread in the Adult category - every next update will be posted there. In this thread, I will only post update logs. I also created a Tumblr account so if anyone’s interested, you can find it in Links section

I think that’s all. Happy reading!

Oh, and here’s the link to the NSFW thread if you don’t want to scroll up https://forum.choiceofgames.com/t/duskguard-wip-dark-low-medieval-fantasy-nsfw-thread/139126

I also had to remove images due to my inability to edit a post when there are images in it. It has to do with my trust level being low so when It’ll be higher, I’ll add them back to both threads.

Seems to be interesting, hope the prologue is done soon

Hello, a question, what does nsfw mean?

not safe for work=NSFW
Usually naked, sexual or some really graphic stuff.

Hello!

It’s as @ChaosBringerXV wrote. As of right now, there are no naked or sexual scenes, though there are gory ones. Only the NSFW demo will be updated - this one will stay at 16K words.

NSFW Demo? May I ask where that is?

It’s in this thread.
