Dragon Chronicles WIP (update 29th July: Full base game working. 2 new scenes added.)

Yes, that’d be possible. It might cause a bit of a conflict with one of the event scenes but I think I can find a way to work around that.

I’m planning to write a RO in as a possiblity to interact with during the game

Thank you @Dragongodess and @sasa_se!

So, one of the locked future telling events Will have something to do with arcane ruins. I must admit, I am super curious to see what that will be about.

Any news on an update, future implementations or rough date estimates? Happy new year by the way.

Hi there @Denzil_Melgior_Nagel, this project is actually becoming a collaboration which is super exciting and will make it a larger, better game than I could manage alone

Because of that, we’re both getting some bits and pieces written up and then sorted out so they all fit together, so there likely won’t be an update until we can have a larger one ready to roll which will take us some more time. Hopefully it’ll be worth the wait though!

Hope you had a great New years also! Thank you for your ongoing support :dragon:

Hey all, there was a comment here which seems to have disappeared? Anyway, to answer the question myself and adrao have both had a lot on our plates of late but more has been added to the game since the last game update that is not yet published. Definitely still in production though I don’t have an exact ETA on an update as of yet. Will keep everyone posted when I do. Thanks for the interest

Warning: Very long text, read at your own peril.

Summary

Is this game going to go past the whole dragon conclave event that happens when you reach elder? Because it feels really short like “Choice of Dragon” if it only stops there. Would like it if you could continue playing until you die in combat/event or old age. I just want to see at least one long CoG/Hosted Games that has you playing as a Dragon from the start.

This game feels like it could become something like that. It doesn’t have a big story though, but I feel like it could be added later after the dragon conclave event. Like for example, one of my ideas was something like, among the lair options, each one would be in the vicinity of different kingdoms. One would be next to a Human kingdom, another would be next to an Dwarf kingdom somewhere either underground or in the mountains, Demonic kingdom somewhere near a volcano, Angelic kingdom on some floating islands, and the last ones can be the Elves forest kingdom, Dark elves living in the dwarf kingdom or underground, Orcs nomadic tribe kingdom, and two different Lizard kingdom; one being similar to the lizard empire from DOS2 (Divinity Original Sin 2) and the other being the classic swamp lizard with their own variation of a swamp kingdom like the Argonians from ESO.

And there could be kingdom events like if you keep terrorizing the kingdom, they might get mad enough to send ALL of their forces against you and you could decide on one of these choices to deal with them which are. 1: Try to fight them if you feel you’re strong enough to solo them with a possible (or slight) chance of winning, 2: Weaken their forces through guerilla tactics and targeting their supplies, 3: Gather your own forces (in secret or publicly) to oppose them, 4: Convince them to submit/surrender and you takeover or leave them alone, or 5: You can befriend them (whether at the start of meeting them or later) by tricking or persuading them and forging an alliance with them where you actually participate in all of their meetings (not just for war). And of course, there can be the occasional betrayal, whether by your side or not.

And lastly, maybe adding where you can learn an element that replaces your breath attacks and even add new ones according to your elements. Like, fire claws, poison breath, ice armor, demonic/holy aura (if you managed to ascend somehow into a deific dragon), acidic tail stinger, and a lightning charge, etc. If I have to say something about the difficulty, I was playing on medium for the fight difficulty and it was annoying how every single time a knight shows up, they were always equipped with a shield that reflects fire and the fights were somewhat hard since even if you had high cunning, you couldn’t tell what the specific weakness of the knights were or what’s the next move they would likely use if your cunning were high enough to guess. Other than that, the game was fine in my opinion.

Hey there Zarkrai. Thanks for the interest and comments for Dragon Chronicles!

At the moment this is designed more to be a replayable game than epically long per playthrough (think kind of like seedship but with story elements added in), so you see different events each time while managing your various risks to gold ratios. Not terribly long per play through, but hopefully something that can be come back to again and again. Myself and another author are working to add extra events into the game so you will get different challenges each play through.

At the moment it will likely stop at the conclave, but who knows. If it is something that is well received and the demand is there when it is released, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility for an extra DLC to add more events/features/options into the existing game or a sequel.

Sorry about that. I’d say that was unlucky as there is random chance involved in those encounters which causes either an easy, medium or hard opponent to show up. I will take another look at the battle sequences to see if they need some more ironing out or balancing though.

@Jacic If I was going to suggest another thing. It would be to separate the scale type from the difficulty selection and make the scale selection more of a cosmetic option. Whether it provides a bonus or not would be up to you. Bring the difficulty selection at the beginning of the game.

Edit: Also, some options for what type of dragon body you have would also be nice in the future for a more varied playstyle or personal preference.

It’s ok, we started discussing ongoing work on this project on one of adrao’s game threads. Thank you @Zarkrai for moving the suggestions back here where it’s not derailing another game thread

I mean, I wanted to let you know what my new suggestions were and if I couldn’t post it here, I was going to try and dm you the suggestions instead if it wasn’t a problem.

I think it’s all good. It probably looked like an old game thread resurrection for anyone who hadn’t seen the other conversation so I reopened the topic. Thanks for the suggestions

This is another suggestion. Read it if you want. Let me know if I should take it down or not.

Summary

Another suggestion I would make would be extending the maximum age you would have to reach before the Dragon Conclave event from 100 to 300-600. Therefore giving us more time on either events (especially if more new events gets added later) or other kinds of activities like spending time with one of the ROs when they’re all available, try to actively get involved with a neighboring village/town/kingdom or other creatures and dragons, finding new ways of becoming stronger or new powers, etc. The age thing would only not become much of a problem if you can continue playing after the Dragon Conclave event and keep going until you either reach one of the endings, die, ascend to Godhood (with a few more time of playing afterwards before it ends), dominate the land/world, become the King/Queen/Ruler of Dragons, learn a spell to completely change your race into a mortal race and live out the rest of your lifespan armed with your knowledge and powers as a half-dragon race, become the first Dragon adventurer (including with a half-dragon variant) or travel to a new world/dimension to live out your life there.

No need to take any comments down. Thank you for your interest :grinning:
We’ll have to take a look at the code and I’ll discuss things with adrao when we get this moving and see what we can fit into the story. The code is actually pretty complicated in the way it all has to fit together and still work. (The amount of bug testing I had to do on this game to get the core of it working was crazy!) Thank you for all the ideas though, gives me something to think about what may be able to be worked in. What you’re suggesting almost sounds like a sequel with a much wider ranging scope once you’re an adult. Let me have a think about what can be done. Worst case if this does turn out to be popular enough for there to be a call for it, it’d be something I’d be open to developing further or having a sequel or spin off for.

I do actually have at least two missions planned that does that (one with the goblins (did I already release that one? That one’s finished anyway) and another where you head over to another island with a resident dragon you may be able to recruit/romance (this one is only half done and not released). We may add more

I recently replayed today and yeah, the goblin stuff is in there though as compared to my last playthrough from last year, I didn’t recruit them. I burned their den and drove them away instead.

Another option if you’re planning on adding more potential minions would be Kobolds, Lizardmen, Beastmen/Demi-Humans and Orcs. Would be fun if you could recruit all of them and form your own Horde like Sauron.

I don’t know if this has Ben brought up yet but I just started the game and was curious is their a debuff if you say you want your future told like if you work to not get the goal or something I didn’t chose it but it would be cool if their was a debuff or something since pretty much all prophecies only come to fruition if they are told

Edit:by debuff I mean if you try to change it or something again i didn’t chose it so I don’t know what it is so I could just be being stupid

Edit2:I now realize that is wouldn’t make sense never mind

I don’t remember much but I think if you choose to know what the future holds for you, it lets you know what kind of random/special event that will happen and I think the only difference is what that elder dragon said. It gets rid of the surprise. I don’t remember if your character knows when certain events are going to happen or not. I think the only thing you won’t be able to know is which order the events arrives in maybe.

Ah alright I also thought this game was different when I first started it that makes sense
