@Beezlebub The French and English have a long proud tradition of hating each other and having great makeup sex.
Makeup sex, @Shoelip? Well, I suppose that’s one way to describe the Battle of Patay.
I was actually making a joke about them constantly conquering and then settling amongst each other and marrying their noble/royal families, but that works too.
That or World War 1 or 2, but I like my first idea better.
I’ve been thinking about romance options for Resistance and was wondering if people would like the odd character whose gender can be selected? I had an idea for an RAF Pilot who joins the group after crash landing there, but I also thought I could give the player the option of having a female version where the character is a member of the Special Operations Directive (a real thing set up by Churchill in WW2) set to assist the Marquis. This way you get two different sort of character and effectively two romance options in one.
As far as the other romance characters, for the definite women characters I was thinking a waitress and a club singer, though those two might be merged into one character.
Well, I’m definitely interested in the action girl.
@Shoelip Thanks! I like to think that any characters in games, romance or otherwise, should all be interesting and engaging. I suspect there’ll be a slight Agent Carter vibe with her, anyway. The RAF pilot I was thinking more of a David Niven thing, possibly.
Agent Carter? Like Samantha Carter from Stargate SG1?
@Shoelip probably more http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharon_Carter
@derekmetaltron I assume you mean the SOE - Special Operations Executive? Should definitely play a part, not only for historical reasons but also because of some great possible storylines based on real fact.
@Vendetta Well actually I met her great Aunt, Peggy Carter, aka Captain America’s sweetheart in the first film. Sharon is an agent of SHIELD in the present day and his current love interest, despite having kinda sorta killed him after being brainwashed by the Red Skull and Doctor Faustus. Comics, hey?
Yes, the Special Operations Executive, that was it. I definitely want to use real history in this game and some inspiration as well. Allen Gies was nice enough when I told him about this a while back to send me a story about a British RAF officer who hid from Nazis by staying in a cramped cupboard in THEIR OWN QUARTERS for SIX DAYS.
@derekmetaltron Ah, yes, I remember her now. For some reason it didn’t register that she was a Carter as well (not being one of those really avid fans!).
Interesting tale, that RAF guy. The history of the SOE itself is full of little-known stories that often beggar belief. It’s a fascinating subject and there are some great sources on the web, but it’s hard to beat a good book for inspiration and ideas such as “The Heroines of SOE (F Section: Britain’s Secret Women in France)”. A real eye-opener, that one.
@Vendetta Don’t worry about it, I just happen to be a rather massive Marvel fan so I know all the various groups and heroes in that massive multiverse of stuff. Or pretty much all anyway.
So to finalise in the romance department for Resistance (the exact game name needs to be finalised) I was thinking that I will have four options, one guy, two girls and a character whose gender and background can be chosen (the RAF Captain or SOE Agent). So five possible options, unless I elect to make one of the girls swappable into a male. Right now I am in the process of looking at the Resistance game in terms of background, characters and objectives. One of which will almost certainly be ‘take out a supply transport train’. With a character creation section set during the Occupation in 1940.
I have a question for the other project I’m developing right now, which is Chronological Caverns. The question is whether players would like the concept of other realities and alternatives as well or instead of simply a set past and future set of times. For example, maybe you come from a world or set a supporting character who comes from a world where Hitler was assassinated in 1936, or was never born, or conquered the world… that sort of thing. Alternative history as well or instead of the past and future options I have in mind. Right now as it stands there will be six possible times the player can originate from - four historical and two futures. In each time there will be some number of character types which will affect their stats. At present I think I’ll be keeping the exact time periods a secret until I release a demo.
Hollywood and Chronological caverns and the Paris resistance ones really piqued my interest
@YopungSweetJ0nes Thanks! I don’t know exactly when the Hollywood game would happen as it’s just a concept in my head at the moment, but CC and the Paris game are what I’m working at the moment, sorting out what sorts of characters and situations might appear before I begin to try and write and code the thing in Jan onwards. After those two I suspect Silver Age will be next, possibly maybe I’ll try the Hollywood game as a secondary project?
So I’m starting up again on both my Paris Resistance project and Silver Age in terms of background writing and planning - I’ve elected to change the plot of Caverns to be something very different to start later. I was wondering in regards to romance options for the Paris game… what would people’s gut reactions be to a possible romance with two other people (gender likely to be determined by yourself) so effectively a threesome of sorts?
That sounds new. Let’s try it out.
I’d support any and all polyamory.
Thanks for the suggestions so far, the essential idea I have for the Paris game is two waitresses (gender electable by you) who are liberal enough to share you if you demonstrate attraction towards one or both of them. Of course there’s going to be other romance options that are more traditional, but it’s all of course going to be secondary to the overall issue of getting rid of those darn Nazis.
I might also have the option of letting players pick a type of hideout for your resistance allies, so any suggestions outside a bar or nightclub would be welcomed.
EDIT: In regards to my other project Silver Age, I’m considering specific super powers for you to select your spy character to have in the game. One is finalised which is size change, but any suggestion people have for interesting super powers which might ideally suit a spy is up for consideration.
I think it’d be fun to go all classic superhero, ie superstrength and flight.
Or maybe superspeed instead would be fun! That could be cool.
@RedRoses Hmmm, well I’m trying to avoid all out stuff like that since it doesn’t especially sound very spyish, though I guess superstrength could work, I really need to determine the precise stat system. I saw that Community Hero had a very clever idea of letting players pick a character type which increases two specific stats, along with a weakness which lowers one of the remaining four. So I might take some minor inspiration from that.
The main intention I have for Silver Age is that players not only pick a power from one of four, but also a country of origin (USA, Britain, USSR or China) and a precise reason for their power to certain sterotypes (likely some form of accident, a mutation, magical derived or due to having off world origins). With those three things in mind, player will - along with a range of possible romances - be able to play Silver Age four times and have a relatively different experience on each occasion.
