EXACTLY. I can’t just write up the narrative without including the choices.

I-who-why…what I want to ask why anyone would want to read that, and then I remember the sheer amount of angst-porn the Homestuck fandom wrote, and that I ate it up. So nevermind. TAT

I constantly envy the characters who have brain-to-internet communication, like in Cyberpunk 2077, because THE THINGS I WOULD DO WITH THAT. THE THINGS.

THIS. I saw a post on Tumblr once that said, if you’re running into an issue of absuridity, write it out to two levels.

The example they gave was: The Vampires need a Safe Place to be during the day. Why can’t they be in the sewers?

Because there are Gators in the sewers.

Why are there gators in the sewers?

Because the nuns are raising the gators and throwing them in the sewer to keep vampires out of them.

Why are the nuns doing this? Because they’re a vampire hunting order of nuns.

There you go, it explains just enough for it to make enough sense for people to not care about the particulars. Two levels of explanation.

WELCOME! hi.

Now that everything’s answered, HI EVERYONE. LONG TIME NO FUCKING POST. So uhhhh, I got sick. REal sick. Fever of 100-102 for 2 days, and fluid buildup in my ears sick. Like, had to take 3 days off work by doctors orders, sick. Like, still not healed, sick.

So yeah. This week sucks for writing. Haven’t been able to sit up long enough to type more than maybe a sentence. <haven’t even been able to play my mobile game. TAT>

Anywhoodle. How’s everyone doing.

Even for those of us that are not there, it rains a lot, or it still gets unusually cold.

  • Which format would be better to describe employee records?
  • EMPLOYEE FILE (Picture here) Name: This Person
  • You look up the employee’s file. There’s a picture of a woman with brown hair and green eyes. “This Person” is what it says on the “Name” line.

Disappointed with my progress recently. I can only really get writing done on the weekends, and my weekend is coming to an end with about 1k of new words. It wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t have to wait until Saturday to do more!

Well, I caught covid from my partner, who I live with, and he caught it at work, where he has to be close to people (he works at a home for mentally handicapped adults), so I don’t think much could have been done to avoid it.
I’m also on immuno-surpressants, so there was very little hope of not getting sick from it, unfortunately.

Someone once said the difference between an office worker and a writer is this: when an office worker looks out the window, he’s goofing off. When a writer looks out the window, he’s working

You clearly haven’t been to the Choice of Games subreddits. IFs full of gloom, doom, misery and red flag ROs sell like hotcakes there.

Not that it really matters. I primarily write soul-crushing stories about horrible people in a dystopian setting because I enjoy it, not because there’s a particularly large audience for it. I’d probaby keep going if even literally nobody read those. It’s fun.

Still accomplishing.

I have achieved 50% of the actual writing goal in that my second chapter is completed. I’d very much like to complete the third also, but it’s in a weird spot where I previously wrote a few disparate chunks of it and I’m not wholly sure how the connective tissue is going to work and how much of it there will be.

I’m feeling the clammy hand of Covid on me for the third Christmas in a row, so that may affect my goals for the month… :frowning:

Yikes, and I thought I had bad luck as a child always getting a cold on Christmas Eve!

You know what, Fair. Fair and Valid. You keep on writing your dark shit, my friend, you deserve to enjoy what you write!

For the bright side, After a dr’s note ordering me not to work until the 13th, (aka tomorrow), I feel much better and well rested. Although I need to figure out how to get my fucking meds. TAT

However, now my poor husband has it (I told him no kisses while I was sick, and he didn’t listen, so now he suffers.) So there’s that. Ugh.

On the bright side, at least work can’t fire me for being absent. I have a dr.s note!

Um hello everybody in here,
So, I don’t really use the forum and sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this but I was wondering if any other writers have experienced a sudden hate of your writing? Like, not the story or writing itself but suddenly everything you write just seems to get progressively worse in terms of quality?

I have my story outline done and I was on a roll for a good while in cranking out good chunks of writing and the quality imo was good enough to keep going and edit it later or on occasion pretty good in the first draft. But as I keep going I keep getting so very dissatisfied with what i’m writing, what needs to happen or be said is clear in my mind but I can no longer convey it in a way I am happy with anymore.

I took a break in order to focus on other things in the hope that would fix it so I could come back to it with fresh eyes; but I barely wrote 200 words today and I hate almost everything I wrote.

Has this happened to anyone before?
Again, sorry if I posted this in the wrong place.

Happens all the time (see above.) Some days you look at it and think “this is crap. It should be better than this.”

And then you change some things and it is. But then you get stuck in this “we can always make it better” loop and nothing ever gets done. Maybe wait a few days and see if you can move on from there.

Hey Fable –

Welcome to the December Writer Support thread. :revolving_hearts:

This is the right place to post, and many writers, both published and not published, experience feelings like that.

You are not alone.

I get imposter feelings almost immediately after writing. When I experience these feelings, I usually end up hating what I wrote, no matter the actual quality of the work.

During these times, I usually rely on what a couple of trustworthy souls think about the writing, because when I am feeling these imposter feelings, their view is more true than my own.

I also keep some of the nice feedback given and reread that too.

Another thing that I found that helps is to finish the first copy of my story completely before I do rewriting or changes.

Maybe you sharing here will help; I sure hope so.

I am sure others will share their feelings and what they do to combat these types of feelings too!

Some of the threads of the past also have resources and shared experiences. Maybe if you have time reading past support threads will help.
