Hey sorry if someone ask just curious. How does the Super Hero Rank score work, and what does it mean?

No one has asked yet. It is an arbitrary number assigned to super heroes in order to categorize their overall abilities in a simple ranking system. It is meant to kind of act like the Mutant Level in X-Men. Instead of assigning cool sounding things like “OMEGA LEVEL” I thought a number system was more practical.

The thought is that if something were ever to go beyond the highest level of the rank than it would need a new name. Instead of assigning names, if they are assigned a numeric value, you can always go higher.

Each power has an assigned value hidden in the script. Flaws will lower the value of that individual power. Strengths will lift the value. Ranks will also affect the value. The sum of all the power values then goes through a simple math calculation and that give you the SHR. The calculation may change, so later on SHR may look different as I assess how useful powers really end up being to the story or if I feel SHR is starting too large. Right now it ranges from 0 to 8, I believe. I was not able to push anything beyond that. There is however a diminished return in the calculation, a lot of powers will quickly get you to rank 5, but it takes more and more powers to really push beyond that.

I implemented this for 3 reasons:

  1. The government and media will eventually take interest in heroes. This is how they will rank them.
  2. It gives readers a rough idea of how powerful the character is.
  3. It will allow for me sometime in the future to set up more evenly matched enemies without having to do a deep script dive into the character’s power set. Such has having a personal arch villain. Like the Joker to Batman.

Hoped that explained it well. I know I sometimes have issues expressing concepts.

You explain it amazingly and I love it. I was just wondering if it was scaled to something else like a character we haven’t met. So thank u for clarifying that for me.

So i’ve got to ask cause im a huge sucker for super powered IN’s since they’re so few but will our PC’s be only staying within the hero-anti hero spectrum or are we going to be able to witness our pc’s having the chance to switch sides and play the villains?(not sure if this has been asked yet)

There will not be a chance to switch sides. It would change too much in the story and would double to workload. Having a main character villain option would require so much added that it might as well be its own project. While villains may fight other villains, their relationship with heroes would change a lot of scenes.

Even if I did a secret villain angle, there would be some point in the future where it would change the whole dynamic. You may be force to do so much good stuff that it would not longer feel like you are a secret villain.

Thank you for the question!

I mean… I killed every villain so far with some cheap ass excuse of morality, so I think that is pretty villainy already, killing is the easy way out, and I’m sure it’ll have it’s consequences in the future, but let’s get real here, killing them is the only way out, police doesn’t really have any power nor do they want to do the right thing, they don’t even get a say in a judge’s final sentence, they only want to earn money and keep their jobs by obeying whatever order comes from higher-ups, it’s seen in reality really, they’ll turn against the people they’re supposed to protect if that is in accordance with their leaders agenda, also the villains we’ve been presented so far are very fishy, stinky so, not to say it’s implied they have wealth, the first 2 villains are after a woman for whatever reason, probably some kind of loan manipulation, and they were going to kill her in cold blood, also the guy you face implies his leader has a lot of power and influence, so you send him to jail? Out by the door tomorrow laughing his ugly ass off and probably gonna kill some more innocent people, that’s on your conscience… The arms dealers, well speaks for itself, there’s no way they don’t have a lot of money, they possibly function with the favor of some corrupt officers too, so maybe they’ve not killed anyone, but what they do will get people killed as most likely the weapons will end in the hands of mobs and mafia, so yeah, better safe than sorry, now if you don’t have hyper hearing, you’ll get the most disgusting of the villains, they kill a mother in front of their daughter, they laugh about it too, here it’s a very difficult choice, if you have the healing power you’ll be able to practically resurrect the woman and thus bring happiness to her daughter, if you don’t you can kill the scumbags, still, you just witnessed a child becoming an orphan in your presence, if you heal the woman you leave them to the police, rather a disgusting thought but it’s the better option all things considered I remember in adrao’s first book there was this magnate guy with fire powers, if you sent him to jail he was out by the door the next morning, I restarted the whole book just to kill the guy lol, it’s all hypothetical though I’ve to be honest, if we suddenly got superpowers out of nowhere, I’d for sure be doing a lot of vigilantism killing, not even afraid to say it, the jail system is so broken worldwide and so corrupt that we just don’t get the justice we deserve, and there’re people that don’t deserve to keep living to be honest

How do get this scene?

When I think villain, my mind more goes towards self interest. Doing the cruel acts puts you on anti-hero track for me, since the intentions are for the betterment of others. You are right though, being a hero in this story does not automatically make you a good person, just altruistic.

I’m glad to hear that early choice with the mother and daughter is not an easy one. I felt it was a great opportunity to put healing to good story use. I want to add some text for if you fail to help the daughter and how that makes the main character think twice about being a hero.

Also, I think the Police route and befriending the Officer routes would be a great opportunity to talk about what happened to these different encounters you meet in Chapter 3.

There are a few hidden routes hidden within chapters. Chapter 3 reaches a juncture where the story checks what senses you have. If you have the right senses you trigger the hidden route of the arms deal. The mother daughter route is actually the standard route. There is one hidden in Chapter 8 CEO route, but it is based on Skills, Choices, and Karma in Chapter 6. There is a planned one for a future IT route Chapter that is based on previous IT route choices.

These hidden routes sometimes make it hard for me to properly gauge how long a chapter comes out to. I’m looking at like 13+ pages and thinking that’s good, but really the different routes and power options just inflate the page count.

Typo, Here it should be ‘steady’ not study

Question;Shouldn’t if we have force-field be able to block high wind speeds when flying since it kind of registers as an attack and auto field would protect us from damage.???

Thank you! I’ll have that fixed by week’s end.

That makes sense. Good call. I’ll see about putting that in! Thank you for the feedback.

Is this an error?

Also couldn’t my character just teleport away when they put the shackle on?

I don’t think you would be able to teleport since the electric shock that came afterwards would interfere with the atomic/electric/energy fields that are created to teleport us around.

Yes it is. Will be fixed by week’s end.

Given enough time, probably. The issue with electrocution is that it greatly hinders the ability to move, act, and sometimes think. With enough time and will power the hero may have been able to escape, but it is resolved before then. The only real way to get around this trap, is to already have the right defenses in place. Otherwise you are saved. This is to set up a solution to an issue later in the story.

By the way, I think mind reading doesn’t work because I haven’t seen any text about what people think, not even passing thoughs

Ohh ok, thank you both for the explanation

Mind reading is largely not implemented yet. My apologies. I do plan on adding a lot for the use of that power. Right now it mainly shows up for the mind of love interests in the CEO route. I will try to work on adding text for this after I’m done with the next route in Chapter 9.

Suggestion for mind reading: that we can read the villains motives and intentions and the emotions they’re going through while doing their evil actions so we can deem if they deserve jail or death or if someone deserves to be spared or not

Is there no way to avoid being electrocuted when facing the kidnappers? If you have electricity manipulation can you avoid it? Or maybe the stone flaw for durability? I know rocks can conduct electricity but wouldn’t being made of stone prevent any electricity from reaching your flesh and internals essentially? Being made of metal I know wouldn’t work since metal is a high conductor and can be melted if you put it on a high discharge of electricity for long periods of time, I can see how it can bypass flesh durability since electricity can reach your innards, but can the telekinetic shield protect you? Is it an unavoidable outcome?

I’m pretty sure the only way to avoid it is having the forcefield power with the auto activation strength
