Dashingdon: Free ChoiceScript Game Hosting

How many words have you written, Gower? :eyes:
1MB of .txt file equals 1M characters. And a bit more because 0/1.

Probably around 700k by now.

That’s a feat. Can we expect, like… 6M words game from you?

As for your problem, I think you’ll have to mail your .txt to Don so he can manually host it.

I’ve removed the 1MB upload limits for your account. That restriction is only there to prevent abuse and I’m happy to remove it for any accounts in good standing.

I am unable to upload two or more files, instead of “.txt” it becomes “.jpg” and says “uploaded 0 files”

You sure you clicked the correct button?

Yep, I am now paranoid af. I’ve been trying for 30 min. I’ll restart my phone, idk :man_shrugging:

Edit: Didn’t work

Well, I mean, I never upload on mobile, so not sure If I can help you a lot on that

Hello people inside my computer,

The next version of ‘dashingdon.com’ is finally ready for beta testing. Here are some of the features:

  • Updated software and hardware
  • Increased security and updated encryption
  • Updated themes, one additional theme, and now full support for the classic CS style
  • Ability to search for games based on titles and descriptions
  • Signed-in members can add games to their Favorites list for easy replays
  • Date of lastest game update is displayed
  • Unique views are tallied for every game and displayed
  • Centralized uploading (upload scenes and game assets simultaneously)
  • Authors can view their game’s current scene list and easily delete scene files
  • Automated word count of all your scenes at the press of a button (automatically excludes comments and code) - currently only works with tabbed code
  • Games can be made public, kept private (can accessed by only those with the directly URL), or restricted (only the author’s pre-approved logged-in members can access the game)
  • Loading and saving game states server-side, saves are attached to your account and not to your browser (requires author to permit saves for the game)
  • Authors can directly edit their game variables in a ‘dev save’ for ease of testing

I need some beta testers to test the interface, functionality, and user experience. If you’re interested, and preferably have a demo game to upload for testing, please message me here on the forum with your preferred nickname/nom de plume as well as your email address. I will create your account and send you a link via email that will allow you to set your password for the new system.

Thanks :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi, Can I please ask for help in enabling the save function?
I have ticked cjw plugin and added this line to startup file:

*sm_init Journeyintodarkness | 4

I have done this right at the very top of startup , this gave me an error
I then added it just after the last *comment and above title, this also produced an error
I know it is to be added before any game text, should I not put it in startup?

Below your *create

Many thanks, done that and get this:

You still have non-commented text preceding your *title and *author. Make sure them both is the first command CS will see.

You have the whole list of *create at the very top instead of *title *author. Put it down (in non-metaphorical meaning).

I’d do it like this

Title has to be on the TOP ADOVE create and temp and comments FIRST line. I know you can put comments adove but I don’t recommend it as you can end another line mixed in middle

Even by the law of averages I should have done something right by now!
Thanks for help, onwards and upwards!

This fixed it! Thanks a million

So I have a question. Is there a way to host a public game on Dashing Don that does not allow other people to open all my .txt files and steal my code?

I just killed a link that I posted for some awesome folks who were helping me beta test because someone actually posted a snippet of my code in the public forum. Three weeks ago, I didn’t know ChoiceScript from Russian, I learned it on my own to write my own game. If I choose to share my code with someone that is my choice, but people should not be able to add a couple of slashes and see my .txt files. (Somebody actually devoted a thread to announce how to do it apparently.)

If you go to a traditional website and add a slash and type index.html you will get an error message saying that you don’t have authorization to see that page. But if somebody types /mygame/scenes at the end of my link they can basically steal my code. If somebody was to ask for help, I would give it. But I don’t want it taken by force.

Also, I moved the game to a new link with a new title, and that game is private. But, when I click on the private link, the address in the web bar changes to the full link. Which means, that even if I made the game public, and then posted the short link to the forum instead of the long one for the beta testers to be able to see the new page, as soon as they clink the link they will see the full link of the new game to which they can add the slashes - making it very not private.
