Cyberpolice (Minor Update: 9th of November 2024) (WIP)

Well, for me with Mari’s date worked fine, with SW now too.

No, I mean like option to go directly to gala after character creation instead of normal gameplay from begining. 'Cause, unless I’m really stupid and can’t find it, there is no one :grimacing:

There is, see my edit above.

(although I guess I should perhaps rename it since it’s a bit vague)

Well, I’m stupid, it’s proven now

Yeah, I think, stating it more clearly would be nice.

No update today.

Deadline for current update: Rest of Stillwater one night stand: Saturday
Deadline for the rest in this segment: Mouse and Carrington ??? November.

Decent chunk of the remaining text indentation fixed. Should be no problem to get it done during the week.

Release will be on Saturday, since I quite liked uploading the previous update earlier in the day, rather than when I go to sleep. Was fun seeing the comments and the progress of the polls, and being ready to fix problems at once instead of when I woke up. In the future, I’ll probably aim to always upload updates on Saturdays.

I feel like Visual Studio would have helped in this situation, or made it unlikely for indentation problems to occur in the first place, but I don’t know how good any choicescript plugins for it are since I never tried it. It’s also probably daunting for those without a coding background, but something to consider anyways.

Well, it isn’t exactly a common problem so it’s fine. First time it happens to this degree. And I think only once before this in any capacity(well, thrice, but one of those was really minor and two were the same thing as far as I’m concerned). As long as I don’t needlessly mix editors and migrate the contents it shouldn’t happen again.

Although, admittedly, when it’s time to re-edit the early game for the Major Update it’ll definitely pop up again.

Boring work, but at least there’s no obstacles to overcome as such. :stuck_out_tongue:

Done with the fixing. Release on Saturday, probably around same time as before(or a bit earlier). As I mentioned earlier, future updates will be on Saturdays, since it’s better for me that way.

Now, I’m extremely tempted to touch up the romantic parts with the feedback I got(and partially incorporate the relevant parts into the explicit stuff), but I’ve decided against it. Usually when I change one thing, I want to change a dozen, so to prioritize me not screwing anything up or being too perfectionistic, it’ll be the way it is until Saturday.

Then, after the update is released, I’ll get some feedback on the explicit stuff too, then do a minor update to address the most relevant parts(quickest/easiest to fix, or biggest problems/improvements), like I did with the Mari Badr version. That will naturally delay the Mouse&Carrington stuff a bit, but I’ll try to keep it to a minimum.

Anyway, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow I’ll work on the Mouse and Carrington stuff to prevent myself from ruining the update.

Mostly practical planning on what to exactly do on the Mouse&Carrington segment. I should have enough ideas to make them interesting and long enough to not seem totally worthless in comparison to the Stillwater and Mari Badr versions. They’ll be shorter for sure, but will still have their own worthwhile parts.

Anyway, tomorrow I’ll release the explicit Stillwater part. Unsure of the exact release time(stuff to do earlier in the day). About 17 hours from now, I’d expect. (give or take an hour or two).

Wow, thanks! That’s high praise.

I’ll do my best to keep up a decent update schedule in the future. It hasn’t been easy in the past, but that shouldn’t stop me from trying.

Update Today.

Includes: Explicit part of Stillwater one night stand scene. (26,000 in game text more, total of 79,000 for entire segment, previously 53,000).

Alright, it’s uploaded. Had some annoying typos that testing didn’t see, but that crashed the thing so it took a bit to fix them after I had uploaded. :stuck_out_tongue:

SAVING IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED WHILE IN THE SEGMENT, BUT DON’T SAVE OVER ANY REAL SAVES, USE A TEMPORARY “BUG SAVE”, SINCE CRASHES MAY CORRUPT IT, ETC. The segment has a lot of code-based text, which always means lots of things that are super hard to test for with the automated testing system. I did get it through a couple of thousand tests, but that’s really nothing given how it’s been coded. So, save if you don’t want to risk having to replay stuff. :stuck_out_tongue:

(also, reminder, you can access the one night stands from the “special meta skip node”, with a new character. I’ll see if I can make it less confusing to use today)

Now, a more detailed post will be made in the Adult forums where I discuss the contents of the update a bit. (will take up to an hour or two  )

Short version is this: If you’ve played the Mari Badr version, lots of it is familiar, since it’s
largely recycled contents from it. Which isn’t great, obviously. It has been very personalized to Stillwater though, so it’s not glaringly obviously unless you’re very familiar with the original.

If you haven’t played the Mari Badr version, you’ll most likely think that it’s pretty good, based on the feedback the Mari Badr version got.

However, the main difference is that the Stillwater version lacks the variation it had. The 26,000 is roughly the same as the Mari Badr version in length, but doesn’t have nearly as many branches. (Mari’s version was 65,000, so this is less than half of that. On the other had, the Stillwater version is largely “procedural”, which makes it extremely word-efficient. Hard to explain, but some of the scenes are sort of generated on the fly based on your choices and attributes, etc, so they reuse the same context but turn it completely specific to your character, rather than being long generic things like some parts in the Mari version).

Also, I had a lot of trouble writing certain parts that were mirror images of each other(you can only give SW a BJ, not receive one from him at present. I couldn’t come up with an interesting way to do it for both, so I defaulted for giving him one since it’s available to anyone, rather than just you having specific organs).

As such, there might be a noticeable female-centric bias to the thing. It is what is, and fixing it would take a lot of work and, more importantly, a specific sort of creativity that I don’t really have.

As for the entire update as a whole,(so all around 80k words), I think it’s tolerable in the current state, at the very least. I do have 19,000 more words that didn’t make it since they were too hard to make into scenes, or took too much time, or whatever(mostly half-baked stuff, but some fairly advanced that just didn’t “work”). The polls in the prior update do pretty much show the result, since the specific scenes that were “incomplete” are the ones that had problems based on the voting. So, I’ll take responsibility for that. :stuck_out_tongue:

Now, the next plan is to make a quick update on the entire segment, incorporating the most important feedback(both explicit and romantic).

What will it include, exactly?

That depends. Bare minimum I’ll be putting in the “passive flirting” system I mentioned earlier, since it seems like a great idea.

I’ll probably spruce up a few scenes here and there, and see if I can salvage some of the cut content.

Also, if the explicit parts aren’t received too well, they’ll naturally get more attention too. (it too has missing scenes, some that might be doable in a fairly quick way but will lead to a relatively big increase in the enjoyment factor).

Anyway, for the next “quick fix update” to the entire segment, feedback is crucial. If I don’t know it, I can’t fix it. Nothing is too small to include. If it bothers you, please mention it. Many things are too big to fix, though, so there’s that. :stuck_out_tongue: (still, no shame in mentioning them, I’d rather know what issues people actually have than not)

(it’ll probably also include a cheat engine)

Anyway, that’s it for my long, rambling post. I’ll be making a post on the explicit forum in a while, but feel free to post whatever feedback you have before I make it. I’ll be including polls in it as usual, and would love votes, so I can compare the Stillwater version to the Mari Badr version. It’s especially important for people who have played both, as I’ll be having a “which is better” poll for anyone that has(supposing I remember to include it).

Hope everyone enjoys it!

(also, the 4 year anniversary of Cyberpolice was on the 6th. To think I once thought I’d make it in less than a year. )

Signing off for the day now. Unfortunately there are some parts in the new update that apparently are quite terrible(hopefully less than 10%). Would be great to know exactly how much of it falls in the realm of unusable in practice.

Which means that if you didn’t like the update, it’s especially important that you vote on the polls or write in the anonymous section for feedback. Can’t even try to fix something if I don’t know that it’s a problem. So far very few voters so it’s hard to gauge the scope of the problem.

In any case, I’ll definitely have to take a look at them on the minor update to the update, so to speak.

Deadline for current update: Improvements on the Stillwater segment - This month
Deadline for the rest in this segment: Mouse and Carrington ??? December.

I’ll wait a few days before making any final decisions on what exactly to improve on the update(to see what the polls as well as written feedback on the anonymous document say in the end). If possible I’d like to get all the improvements out this month. Most of it will be spent on the explicit part of the segment, since the romantic part has had an excellent reception(though I will add the discussed parts of the flirting, and see if I can add some of the removed parts to the “too short” scenes)…

By the way, I played the dance version this time, and while I kinda prefer museum for lore and conversation, it was really sweet  You really captured the magic of a classical dance.

Mostly busy until Thursday. I’ll try to correct some of the more obvious things mentioned in the other thread, but no real work before that. (which is fine since I’m still waiting on more feedback if possible)

Awesome. I’ve only ever danced something like that once myself, and I wasn’t a fan, so it’s good to know the writing worked.
