Cyberpolice (Minor Update: 9th of November 2024) (WIP)

No update today.

Deadline for current update: Complete Stillwater one night stand(explicit stuff included): 2nd of November
Deadline for the rest in this segment: Mouse and Carrington ??? November.

Will have to decide how large I’ll actually want the Mouse&Carrington segment to be. Both together I could see a similar word count as the Mari Badr and Stillwater parts. Which means, either separately is only half(or less since they’ll have a combined branch too). Although, perhaps a better approach would be to write them as long as they’re going quickly, and when they start to stagnate I’ll finish them quickly. It’s always the stagnation phase that ruins the flow and the speed of the updates. Still, they can’t be too short either. We’ll see, I suppose.

Glad to see the excitement. I hope the reception to the other segments is as positive as what the Mari Badr version got. It’s particularly hard to know what people will think since these parts are so far removed from my normal writing.

(it’s especially awkward if they’re not great, since I won’t have much idea how to fix them, and don’t want to spend too much more time on them either. So let’s hope they’re all great on the first try!)

Deadline for current update: Complete Stillwater one night stand(explicit stuff included): Tomorrow!
Deadline for the rest in this segment: Mouse and Carrington ??? November.

Tomorrow’s the big exciting day! For realsies this time.

As for the exact time, Something like 14 hours from now seems probable. Maybe earlier. I’ll have to do some shopping and such before I post it, to be sure I can be ‘on duty’ the rest of the day. :stuck_out_tongue:

(and of course make the posts on both threads with all the polls and such, which always takes its own time)

Anyway, see you soon!

Update Today.

Includes: Romantic part of Stillwater one night stand scene. (53,000 in game text, previously 0)

Alright, now, there’s good news and bad news.

Good news is that the non-explicit part was uploaded successfully. (53k. In comparison, the mari non-explicit version was just 31k)

Bad news is that the explicit part has a super annoying “bug” that means I couldn’t upload it. It’s the same thing I ran into during the second(“unscheduled”) Mari Badr update with the “inventory” screen.

Short version is, due to weird editor problems, more or less all of the lines of code I have are tabulated incorrectly, which prevents the scriptlanguage from reading the code. Now, fortunately there’s an extreme easy solution to all of this.

I just need to retabulate them manually.

EDIT(partially solved): (((The problem is, that’s thousands of lines of code, and it’s the most soul crushing thing you can imagine. It’ll take a bunch of hours for sure, but it’s eventually it’ll be done. I wish I could’ve gotten the editor’s automatic indentation to work on it, but it doesn’t, since I’m a complete idiot and used two different editors at some parts of the work. Now, for some reason this wasn’t a problem until I divided the main gala file into subfiles(since it was abominably heavy and loading it was really slow). It’s like it magically appeared.))) <—won’t be nearly as much as hassle as I thought.

Since I really despise doing that sort of thing, I doubt I’ll be doing it tomorrow. More than likely it’ll be done half an hour a day or something until Saturday next week. That’s the plan anyway(so the 9th for the explicit parts, IF it works(which it should since I changed some other files too that had the same problem, and they worked). If it doesn’t work, I’ll just upload the massive megafile that does work, but freezes my computer for a while when loading it. Which, obviously, is a terrible solution for most people, especially for anyone using a smartphone instead of a modern PC. :stuck_out_tongue: (which is why I divided them in the first place. Not a smart idea having choicescript files that consist of some 200,000 words, it seems)

EDIT(SOLVED): (((Also, the division in to subfiles made the Mari Badr segment not work at all. I have no idea why, since it works in my testing normally, but not when uploaded to Dashingdon(unlike the Stillwater explicit part). It just loads forever. Tried to get it to work, but couldn’t figure it out. If it works for anyone, please tell me)))) <— This is no longer a problem, had to do with the file being “partymaribadr” instead of “PartyMariBadr”. Crazy how it’s case sensitive like that.

Also2, the saves might not work properly. At least on my computer, right now, I can’t load a prior save. It does see the save, but can’t load it. It might be due to the aforementioned division into subfiles (it shouldn’t since I didn’t even touch the file where the save was saved on).

So, half of a good thing, and a bunch of bad things. Sucks pretty bad.

In any case, I hope you at least enjoy the romantic scenes.

As I’ve said a million times, it’s new and strange to me, so I might completely suck at it. Please tell me if that’s the case or not. As usual, I’ve tried out multiple different ways of doing things to find out what works and doesn’t. Because of this, opinions are important.

Thus, I’ll be making a new post below this one with polls regarding the romantic part, so please vote on them. There won’t be too many of them, since I’ve learned that the fewer polls there are, the more people will vote.

I think Notepad++ has option to convert existing indents between tabs and spaces, but I could remember wrong… but it might help (if I do remember right… I’m having too much of a headache to check right now)?

I’ll check it out. Anything to make it less of a chore. I already started hating it having to do it for like 30 lines when I added new name choices in the start file. The original lines, vs the lines added after a certain period of time(or on a different editor, not sure what triggers it), are two completely different indent “entities”, it seems. The way they look on the screen, vs what they are in reality are very different.

Still, thanks for the tip. I’ve been using CSIDE more recently, and used to use Notepad++ previously. And even in CSIDE, I’ve used 2 diffrent indentation sizes.

All in all, not very smart of me. :stuck_out_tongue:

Edit: At the very least it displays them in a much more appealing way, so I can instantly see where the actual indentation is.

Edit2: Okay, so it kinda works. Doesn’t fix every single instance, but a massive amount it does. This’ll make it way more bearable, and much faster. So, you have my thanks LiliArch. :+1:

In the future, I’ll stick to one editor per file, and on specific indentation that’s set in a specific unit. :stuck_out_tongue:

Or just make sure your settings are same in all editors. :stuck_out_tongue: (I use “tab is 4 spaces” myself. So every time I hit tab, I get 4 spaces. And the auto-indentation does the same.)

Absolutely loved the new update! Ususally I’m not very keen on romance in IFs but since the very beginning of the story I just knew that Stillwater needs to be mine lol. Can’t compare his event to the MariB 'cus didn’t play it but still can say it was great.
Didn’t expect SW to be so easily flustered considering his sassy attitude throughout the main story, was pleasently surprised. And the option with “lewd gesture” took me off(in a good way), thought I’m gonna choke on my spit when I read that.
Also really liked that this update gave his character more depth with giving the reader more insight on his thoughts on life as well
Overall really enjoyed it, hopefully the problem with bedroom scene will be solved soon and we get to play it ASAP🙏

Gee, thanks.

The bedroom scene will be ready for launch ASAP. Can’t make promises, since I’m especially bad with time estimates, so I’d better not give one.(besides, this one isn’t even about writing, it’s about brute forcing the solution, which could mean a day, or a week, depending on how quickly I tire of it :stuck_out_tongue: )

But I will certainly focus on resolving the issue before I put more effort in the Mouse&Carrington update, that much is obvious.

Guess Stillwater will be my main LI, you didn’t even needed the sex scene, the whole dating sold it to me

Okay, that was pretty cool. I went with museum first and it was pretty interesting, new lore and stuff. Stillwater didn’t shut up, but I kinda love him talking and talking to him :yum:

I like how conversation options vary from geniune philosophical discussions to pretty corny flirting and pick-up lines.

More options to customise your character during his questions about you were also nice.

Most funny moment was his creator playing both dad and Mordin from ME2

Deadline for current update: Rest of Stillwater one night stand: Soon
Deadline for the rest in this segment: Mouse and Carrington ??? November.

Seems like people generally liked the update. Great.

I also noticed some anonymous feedback, which is excellent. Well argued, and I agree with it entirely, I’ll see if I can make a system for it. Something like many sentences having a “flirtiness score”, or maybe “subtle flirt” OR “over flirt” score, but never both, and it accumulates. Supposing either gets high enough, Stillwater(or another character if it becomes a thing for the entire game), will react appropriately. So, for instance, if you have enough “subtle flirt” score, and they like you, they’ll perhaps suggest something, etc.

I’ll need to think about it, and no promises that it’ll be implemented, but it does seem relatively easy to do, since I can piggyback it to stuff already in the game, so the workload might be surprisingly low for it.

Anyway, until tomorrow!

I have to report an issue. I tried to replay MB’s date, and on transition to her apartment game just stops at loading. I wait for like 5 min, and it still failed to load. Playing on phone. Could old save cause that? I just don’t want to replay the whole thing  SW’s date with old save worked absolutely perfect.

Ugh, really sorry, should’ve been smart enough to make sure that part works too. It should work now, that file didn’t have the word capitalized entirely either. Sorry!

If it doesn’t, please tell me.

(also, saving during the one night stands, party, or so on is a bad idea, as I warn before you can choose the scenes. They’re dead ends in practice. Although, if people have made the mistake of saving there, I suppose I can give a way out if needed, but it’s not great)

Yep, works fine now, thanks.

Dashingdon is kinda helps you here: if dev change something in files and you will try to load save from this game, it will typically reboot you to the start of the current chapter, which is gala.

Since gala is currently disconnected from other gameplay and uses mostly stuff from character creation like physical attributes, having save there (in any place) is quite useful, actually, you can just load it and re-do one night stands from gala’s start. I guess it will work this way unless you will somehow redisign character creation.

Some quick way to play gala, like, option to go there after character creation, would be nice, of course.

Doesn’t it keep all the game states though(if dashingdon boots you to the start)? That often leads to soft-locks with my type of programming, like “you can ask 3 questions”, then if you go to that scene you’ve already asked them and it gets stuck and you can’t escape, or it skips the scene which can lead to weird things.

The censorship data(including associated attributes) will eventually be put to the start of the game, and you can change them during the game in the “inventory” screen, but that’ll happen a bit later. (if that’s what you meant)

Also, you CAN go to the gala after character creation currently, you have to use the “SKIP TO THE NEWEST CONTENT ONLY, PLEASE.” option after the Mari Badr commercial in the train, then choose the “#Super special skip to Metanode” option.

Also2, I’ll be putting a cheat engine into the game soonish, that’ll let you skip around in the game and edit many of your choices. (though it’ll probably break your game pretty easily)
