Contest

@lordirishdas You never did reply to my pm.

@fantom I am sorry I looked but do not see it in my inbox.

All right @MaraJade is the third Judge. And to lead the team up @Vendetta was kind enough to take this role.

Alright, I’ve made a decision. Count me in because I have a good thought on what I want to do in my head.

Glade to have you on board @TIYF good luck.

@lordirishdas - I’d probably be interested in entering this as I have an idea for a game I might be able to turn around in 30 days (although I might not…)

Can I clarify this point:

Length of play - Two hours is the max for judging. For every 1/2 hour is one point, up to 8 total points.

If two hours is the max, and you get a point for every 1/2 hour of play, wouldn’t this mean a total of 4 points?

Also, how many beta testers can I have? Not saying that I’ll have many, but is there a limit?

Thanks.

Does “How intuitive are the choices” mean “not a bunch of ‘go right or left?’ decisions that give no clue as to what might happen?” Or something else?

@bawpie you have 58 days to write a story not 30. Thanks for spotting that error, it now says every 1/4 hour. Hope you decide to compete.

@HoraceTorys It mean as a reader/judge do I think the writer captures most or all of the choices I feel are needed. Did they come up with some I did not expect.

I think I’ll try my hand at this.

Is there a theme of some sort? Since it says the contest will be open on Feb 1st, does that means the contestants aren’t allowed to start work until Feb 1st?

@aurumcelest You can start work on an outline, but no coding or such.

@aurumcelasr this is a good idea, but I will wait until next years contest to implement some thing along that thought.

@aurumcelasr You probably still could for this one, since work hasn’t actually started. You might ask people.

@lordirishdas - yes, for some reason I thought the deadline was the start of March, not the end of March. I might still try for a turnaround in a month, then I can get back to work on my other WIP  It’s good to know there will be breathing space though.

I would like to say that I will be competing, as I have a good idea that I think can be turned into a fairly short (maybe half an hour) but fun game with a bit of re-playability in there too.

@lordirishdas I will be entering the contest.

May try my hand at this, if I can come up with a simple idea I’m not tempted to overdevelop!

That’s a huge amount of prize money though, are you sure about that?

Suggestion: Make a percentage of the judging a community poll.

I presume that we have to use stock CS for this too? We can’t modify anything?

I’m definitely going to give this a try. I’ve already got an idea for a small project, . I’m not sure how well it will go over, but I’m sure I’ll have fun doing it anyway.

@bawpie Glade you are on board.

@Marius Cool.

@CJW Yes I put some thought into the prize money. I have four very good judges, 2 newer members and two that have been on here for a time. I will take what I learn this year from the contest and apply changes to next. You can use any mods that are currently out there, lol most you have written, they will not however add directly to your score. But no new mod codes.

@Trywm glade to see you as well.

Edit: rephrasing.

Some people are good at coding, others are good at writing and then some are better still as designers. Some lucky buggers are good (or good enough) at them all.

I think it’s a little unfair to say that a coder can’t code, it’s (somewhat) like telling a football team that they’re strikers can’t score; instead their defenders have to.

This is even more so the case if you’re allowing people to use pre-existing mods.

So whilst those who can do fancy things, aren’t allowed. Those who can’t - can - using things they didn’t even make!

This sounds really whiny I know, it’s not like me to complain but I think this is a really unfair point in the competition.

If you’re going to say people can’t make new mods - then you should disallow modifications to core files entirely, including usage of current mods (but not renaming games and adding stat buttons and simple/generic stuff).

That’s my personal opinion anyway, it’s your competition and your money - but I hope you can see what I’m trying to get at here!

yeah i agree with cjw he should be able to do his best coding but should only be marked for his writing not for coding

@akatsuki9344 Not quite, it’s not a “writing” contest, as far as I’m aware; It’s a Choice Game contest, thus, regardless of writing OR coding - the judging should determine only how fun and entertaining the game is (at that is the purpose of games!). :stuck_out_tongue:
That’s my outlook at least…
