Consolidated Collaboration Discussion Thread

I would recommend checking out this thread.

I’ve written, and published, a pulp western trilogy that takes place after the civil war. Looking for someone who would be interested in collaborating on a game. The main character is a woman from Louisiana and the tone is pretty traditional as far as the western genre goes. I’ve enjoyed many years of IF and would love to be a part of building something new. If this idea sounds interesting to anyone please hit me up.

Here is the blurb I posted on the Amazon listing:

Raised on revenge and grit, Ada Picou, hunts the man that killed her family. Her humanity is tested at every turn as hate binds her heart. A chance for peace and safety enters into her life and then is challenged by her greatest threat. Divergent paths lay before her, one will take her to vengeance, the other, possibly love. The burdens of choice weigh heavily upon her future and the future of those around her.

I’m not selling anything. I’ve been playing IF since 1985ish on our 8086, before my dad put in the 8088 daughter board. I’ve written some super basic choose-your-own adventures in various languages and have played with Twine for a bit. I want to explore this art form with my stories and characters for the pure joy of it. I will absolutely check out ChoiceScript, but honestly, I want to write and was hoping to contribute to the game from narrative/character dev. perspective.

I have fond memories of getting Zork, Hitchhiker’s Guide, and the Leather Goddess of Phoebis (?) off of our local BBS.

Over the years I’ve played a lot, just looking for the right fit for something that started as a novel. I just don’t have the experience and breadth of knowledge to know what’s out there these days. The last thing I dabbled with was Twine a few years ago as a teaching tool for kids dipping their toes into various computer arts.

Hello I am jaydeepsinh Dabhi from Gujarat India, I am writing a game and I am good at coding but not in story writing so if anyone want to help me in completing my game then please help me. Story of my game is that mc is son of current king and story runs in medieval timeline, so if anyone interested in game like this then please help me.

So this is the start of the community-made game (thread.) Not a very auspicious start, given the circumstances. I’m sitting here feeling like I’ve been kicked in the side by a mule, and I really need help with the genre. I’m thinking of a few already :

  • Science Fiction
  • Sword and Sorcery
  • Future Dystopia (cyberpunk?)
  • Fantasy (superheroes?)

Which one would be best? or maybe there are better genres?

I’m sorry, is this a reference to something in another thread?
What exactly does it mean?

I have a weak spot for medieval fantasy and superheroes personally but a poll could give a good result about overall people opinion

Oh dear, I’m so sorry. I blame the overtraining, The original thread is here

That’s where it all started.

Great idea, I should modify it. Thanks

All of them together, obviously. (Definitely not what I’m doing, why do you ask?)

I’ve moved the posts from this thread to be discussed here until a playable demo is ready, as WIPs don’t have their own threads until demos are put up. Thanks!

Low fantasy, maybe? Sword and sorcery where magic is difficult to the point where mages have to go around heavily guarded and any large scale spell can kill you outright. The player can be either a mage, a mage’s attendant, an advisor to the group, an healer primarily to/for the mage or one of the guards. Any way they play it, it gives an immediately established group (though how you relate to the group could and I think should be determined by choice,) to start the adventure with.

Ages would vary. The advisor and healer would be the oldest, mage and guard choices would be in the mid range, and the attendant would be the youngest.

Attendants I think would generally be ā€œfailedā€ apprentices, those who couldn’t work up enough magical energy to perform even the most minor of spells.

Advisors would be retired mages who don’t wish to teach, they have survived active practice, but can no longer bring together sufficient magical energy to perform any but the most minor of spells.

Healers are not mages but do use some minor cantrips and charms, no one is quite sure how or why it does not endanger them. Only very senior/experienced healers are allowed by their guild to travel with mages and even then only after they have trained and passed all their knowledge down to at least three and preferably five apprentices. Most healers take on two to three apprentices at a time because of this.

Mages are dangerous and tend to quite literally explode. Magical talent shows up early and they are rushed into training as soon as possible (most will be very young children.) They are sequestered from society and isolated from each other out of necessity; for much of their apprenticeship the only time an apprentice mage will see other people will be in class, if then. One mage tower has students in individual cells built around a central podium, the students do not leave their cells until proven sufficiently ā€œstableā€ and may go years without any but visual and aural contact with their instructors. Not all towers are so harsh, but the enforced isolation at all of them tends to make anyone who has attended one a rather odd person.

Guards are exactly what it says on the tin. Quite a few are either ex-soldiers or ex-mecrenaries who’ve left their companies. A very few may be reformed criminals or ex-pirates.

What is the legal definition of ā€œcollaborationā€ actually? If a forum member gives you extensive advice, is that collaboration? What if the forum decides the genre and characters but you write the story independently?

At what point does ā€œhelpā€ become ā€œcollaborationā€ ?

New Coder here(First Project). Figured basics out. Developed initial environment, files etc.

Welcome to Intergalactic Mercenary.

In this game, you play as a bounty hunter, mercenary, hired gun, and business person.

Make choices that shape your journey: uphold honor, forge alliances, and defend the weak—or become the coldest and most ruthless mercenary in the galaxy.

Need co author(s) and support if anyone interested. I am flexible in story and creative control aspects
