Community College Hero 3: All Things End (One Last Try in 2025!)

I still got delusional hope for Wars of Infinity and the final book, and then the sequel trilogy with the original MC’s daughter as the new MC to all come out during my lifetime.

Likewise! I also hope that one of these years, there’ll be time to wrap up CCH – but feeding the family (and work fulfillment) have got to come first. Maybe when Eric hits retirement.

Damn. I only read the first, but I read it several times and thoroughly enjoyed it. I’ve recognized that writing complete series, especially interactive series, is a very long, hard, and uncertain process, which is why I’m finishing up all my current games to avoid unfinished stories myself

While I won’t say too much until we hear from the man himself, I will say that I am happy for him to have a new opportunity, and if this is what is best for him and his family then the rest of y’all need to keep the attitude in check. It’s unreasonable at best and heartless at worst to imply he should pass up a good opportunity out of some perceived obligation to his readership, especially since he’s already written more stories than the vast majority of ChoiceScript authors (myself included). Go read what is out there, enjoy it, and wish him well.

I want to second this and I apologize to Eric if my comment seemed insensitive. Ultimately, this is great news, and we should be happy, even if us fans will obviously be disappointed too.

Closing the thread for now, as Eric closed the Your Final Monologue one and his IF projects are on hiatus - @Eric_Moser please let us know if you would like it reopened. Here is a link to Eric’s other post for reference (you need to be in the adult reader group to access it) and I’m certain that I speak for a ton of people when I say best of luck for the exciting new things on the horizon

Hello all!

I hope everyone is enjoying the holidays (and hopefully enjoying some down time).

I’ve had a little (emphasis on “a little”) down time over the past couple of days, and my thoughts turned to CCH a few times. The following idea was proposed to me a while back, and upon reflection, I think it might have some merit. Sooo…

Does anyone feel they have the ability, time, and desire to help in writing CCH 3?

  1. Ability - You understand how to code in ChoiceScript, you’ve played the CCH series, and you are a strong writer, preferably having already written at least one Hosted Game.

  2. Time - These projects just gobble up your time. Even with both of us working together on this, I would anticipate it would require at least 10-15 hours per week from you, for a full year, minimum. So this would be a significant commitment on your part, there’s no way around it.

  3. Desire - You have enjoyed CCH series and you’d like to have a strong impact on how the final installment plays out.

I realize the number of folks who possess all 3 qualities might be small, but I figured what does it hurt to ask? Feel free to spread the word to other forums, social media channels, etc., if you think you might know a quality candidate, but please direct them back to this post.

Questions a candidate might have:

1) So who exactly will be writing Part 3? Me? Eric? Both?

It would be a collaboration, with me and the Writer brainstorming together and creating a joint outline after we have agreement on overall story. (I do have a couple of previous chunks saved, and I think some of if is salvageable.) Then I would envision the Writer cranking out a draft, including code, with me supplying edits and tweaks to make the writing as close to the previous installments as possible. There would be a lot of back-and-forth and revising.

2) How do I get paid?

This would be something I would iron out with the Writer via a written contract, but it would be have to be primarily through a revenue split with Hosted Games. I simply can’t risk paying someone per word, or per chapter, for fear of them abandoning the project and leaving me with a half-finished (or less) draft that I’d likely have to recruit yet another person to help me finish. If someone is VERY interested, I would certainly agree to show them how much the series has made thus far, so they would have SOME idea of what a Part 3 might earn. And I would almost certainly be open to paying the Writer perhaps twice over the process, like at the 50% point and at completion, in addition to the royalty split. But again, this would all have to be ironed out with the right person.

3) Eric, why are you doing this? Isn’t CCH your baby?

Yes, it’s my baby. That’s why I’m throwing this out there. My current job is very demanding in terms of time and mental energy. There’s just no way I will be able to write CCH in the next few years without help. To be honest, I have more money than I have time these days.

4) Why would a Writer agree to do this instead of just doing their own game?

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I think most people WOULD rather just work on their own game idea, but my hope is that CCH’s sales history (60k units sold), combined with me helping with code, structure, edits, and me providing a lump sum payment at completion might hold enough appeal to interest the right person.

Well, we’ll see what happens. I received some interesting inquiries, and I’m in the process of looking them over. Thanks to everyone who expressed interest!

However, my professional duties at my new law firm job continue to expand, and I need to decide whether or not I’ll have the bandwidth for even a joint creative venture. I am many (many) times busier than I was while I was substitute teaching.

If you’re one of those people who emailed and you see this, know that I am trying to figure things out this month. I won’t leave anyone hanging past the end of January.

Alright, closing this for now!

I have some work/life balance again, and my oldest is in college. So, here I am.

I suspect virtually all players have moved on from CCH (I wouldn’t blame them at all) and the new AI age has me worried about how people will value creative works made entirely by human brains/fingers/mouths, but leaving this series unfinished has gnawed at me for the last two years. I have let people down, people who supported me in so many ways from 2013 to 2023. And so yes, I feel guilty for letting them down. But I also feel defeated for letting myself down. I have worked in a variety of fields in my life, and I’ve had some very meaningful moments, but for whatever reason, I’m most proud of writing CCH as compared to other professional endeavors.

For years, I overextended myself, I think because I adore the creative CoG/HG ecosystem and the wonderful people who make it what it is. I think interacting with younger folks also made me younger, more creatively energetic. But this all meant that I spent way too much time on the forums, social media, and side projects instead of focusing on the main goal.

If I get permission from the mods, I would prefer to create a new thread for Part 3, free of outdated links and discussions, but we’ll see if that is allowed.

My goal is to have a fresh demo posted by Halloween. I need to reacquaint myself with ChoiceScript and figure out the new hosting site. My time on the forums will be limited (by choice) and I’m pretty much off social media these days, and happier for it.

My email remains fictionbyericmoser@gmail.com. I’ll rely on that and forum email/messaging moving forward.

See anyone reading this in a couple of months! Happy (very early) :jack_o_lantern: :bat: :ghost:

Seeing CCH3 on here activated me like a sleeper-cell agent haha
So happy to hear you’re coming back to it, I enjoyed them quite a bit when I was in High School!
Good luck and Godspeed!

Welcome back, man.

Trust me, we have not forgotten CCH, and it’s great to hear your life’s looking up

So yeah, I’d say there are plenty of people who are popping champagne or something at the news of cch3 potentially rising from the abyss to be back at the horizon.

As a fan, I can say I don’t feel like I was let down in any way. Life happens and we make do with what we have; if we all go separate paths and then circle back around a few years down the road, then that’s just how it is—maybe how it needed to be. All things in due time, as they say. So I hope you don’t feel too guilty about the time it took for us to get here. I’m glad you have a better work-life balance now and can return to this project you love and have put so much into! I’m excited and very much looking forward to the new demo

I was sad when you said there would be no CCH3, but I get it life gets in the way and the only thing certain about life is uncertainty, but my god if I wasn’t hoping for your return so that in cch3 we get to meet origami again!
