Community College Hero 2: Knowledge is Power (Would a Game Guide for CCH1 & 2 be helpful? post 1941)

He has the most civilian casualties and his sons except Dick are dead on the inside

I kid, I like Batman but I like making fun of him more

@Eric_Moser You wanted our hopes and wishes but I apologize for the imminent essay regardless.

  1. Some more scenes with our chosen RO. Even if they’re not dedicated (though I’d love those), I love the little asides and scenes we get (I’ve only romanced Tress but I really liked the moment we get to share at DG’s party).

  2. More scenes or follow-ups regarding our teacher’s pet status with the varying faculty.

2A. Maybe getting that extra training with Downfall in the summer, particularly if we used her EMP to deal with the Wyvern? I imagine Downfall would totally approve of the MC killing the Wyvern.

2B. Given the possibility of Hedonist dying I wonder if he’ll have a major role, but if the MC was his pet maybe he could continue to be our mentor or help us design a new outfit? (Given that he’s an impeccable dresser). I also thoroughly enjoyed the little bonuses and asides the MC gets for being his pet. I personally wouldn’t pursue him as an RO if he became one, I really enjoy the mentor dynamic we have in part II.

2.C It was great having Sandy get our charge dropped for the Untamed attack and I imagine she’ll get us a good deal or maybe off entirely for the voluntary manslaughter charges if we kill the Wyvern.

2.D Given that we may already be infiltrating the Diabolical Dozen’s HQ with the Manipulator, will we do some cloak and dagger shit with Nil? Since he offers proof as to why we shouldn’t trust Dean Tolly.

  1. Since we lose all our equipment, will there be other venues of attaining gear in part III? Maybe from the faculty whose favor we gained or scavenging the gear we took from the Wyvern’s lair, either the blaster or maybe coming up with some new gear using the laptop schematics? If Wombat survived our playthrough maybe he can hook the MC up with some gear?

  2. Will we get any word on stat caps? And will there be venues by which to continue increasing stats in part III?

  3. Finally, will there be more opportunities to interact one-on-one with team members and address some issues? Maybe getting the core team to go easier on the Afterthoughts or (for those of romancing Tress) a way to address her desperation and frustration to be recognized?

Someone posted a guide for the A earlier but here’s how I got the B:

  1. Ignore mum’s text (your relationship will take a hit but I spent all break with her so it wasn’t too bad).
  2. Stick to your chosen persona (Joker, Brooder, etc.)
  3. I went the safe route and said ā€œI can’t comment on pending legal procedures.ā€
  4. I was honest and said we had no leads on the Wyvern.

That’s nothing, really! I just had a lighting-bolt-strikes-head, that’s all. Rereading the sentence fixed it.

Can someone make a poll on who everyone picked at the end as potential new group members? I dont know how

Question about Nil I dont see what proof he gave that the Dean is the traitor? Maybe i missed it. Tress does seem suspicious and I can see her being a traitor for the ā€œgreater goodā€ even with high relation ship stat with her. Ironically my lowest stat was with Origami like she expects me to donate time and money when she cant even grace us with her presence. And did Tress just have an Origami cutout this entire time??

Eh, we never appreciate things until they’re gone. Though I do miss the fast times at ridgemont high thing we had going, I can understand why people had problems with it, but I liked it well enough.

Though as I’ve somewhat indicated, my favorite teacher is Downfall. I like the honesty to her brutality, and she’s one of the only teachers I felt treated the students like adults and was actually preparing us for our roles. Being a Super in this world is a job, one in which you are expected to put your life at risk on a regular basis in high stress scenarios and in some cases may be required to kill. Training should feel like BUDS or the Q course, it should be intense, it should be psychologically harrowing, and yes, it should hurt. I know her breaking Triss’s arm is considered over the line in and out of universe, and I’ll agree to an extent, but then look at the situation at the hospital immediately following it. A high level super with hostages, very similar, only this one wasn’t holding back and instead of a severe, but not permanent injury, our teammate kind of died. Say what you will, that exercise in the barn was a glimpse into what it’s really like to be a hero in this world. I also like that unlike the other professors, I never felt like she was patronizing us for our lack of powers, the vibe I got was ā€œI don’t care what powers you have, or whether or not you even have any, if you want to do this, these are the standards I expect you to meet, how you do that is up to you, but meet them or you don’t belong here, and you shouldn’t be a Hero.ā€ Oddly enough, because of these things, I feel like she’s the one who treated us with the most respect.

Either way, long story short, the more of her in a badass tough mentor figure in part 3, the happier I’ll be.

Rant over.

He assures you that he’ll provide proof, it hasn’t been given yet. I do wonder why everyone is pointing fingers at Crook and Tress though. It seems way too out of the left field that any of the students would be the traitor. It makes a lot more sense for the powers that be to do you in. The Manipulator for the hell of it or if your infiltration is botched. The Salazars for threatening their Utopia project or even the Dean or the Prestige folks for disrupting their respective agendas. Tress’ behavior has been less than stellar and I totally understand people disliking her, but her being the traitor that does you in seems really out of nowhere.

I agree! Since she steals others’ powers I think it would be really cool to have a sparring match with her and the MC.

Oh, man. I really, really enjoyed this. Especially the fight with Wyvern. Beating him felt so, so good. You really did a great job with that. I remember getting so excited when the original thread for this popped up, and you did not disappoint.

Also? Good job on totally destroying my trust in everyone and everything. The Savior trip left me feeling uneasy, especially with Booksmart’s whole ā€œā€ā€œutopiaā€"" spiel, along with her ā€œif you want powers I need complete and permanent access to your mindā€ bit. I definitely wanted to give the Hedonist (who I’ll admit I was already biased against from CCH 1) and Captain Cal (who, now that I think about it, I should have been a lot more suspicious of when he first showed up) a wide berth after all that.
Prestige made me nervous too, though for a different reason. The uniforms and fact that they would hire someone like Downfall weren’t very encouraging, and I kind of got the feeling that the ā€œschoolā€ was more like a boot camp, kinda? At least, it felt more militant (not sure that’s the right word). We didn’t really get a look at the students’ lives there, so maybe that’s just my brain filling in blanks. Still, assuming they know why Downfall was fired, I don’t think I want anything to do with a school that willingly hires someone like her… There’s a hell of a difference between being a ā€œharshā€ teacher and straight up not seeming to care about the well-being of other people.
Dean Tolly is…difficult. I want to trust her, really. She’s a sweet woman. But she seems to have her own secrets/agendas, even if they don’t immediately set off the same alarms that Mega Cat’s and the Smarts’ do. I’m just…completely at a loss as to what she could be hiding, though. I’m going along with her for now, so I just hope it doesn’t come back to bite me.

tl;dr: This game’s giving me trust issues, I hope you’re happy.

(Also also: the little extras you get with your RO throughout the game were really cute. They were a lovely extra touch!)

True. Dont trust anyone but have everyone love you was my motto for this book

I was replaying from the beginning and a mild thing bothered me. If you told Nils to basically fuck off when he reveals that he has a special mystery prize your character has three options

Give a damn
Give a damn
Or give a damn.
Ideally there would have been a fourth " I already said I’m not giving him secrets so his prize doesn’t matter"

also a 13 year old and your character is 19 or something so that’s not going to happen

@Eric_Moser Soooooooooo.

I just spent all Friday night, and well into Saturday morning, reading the first and second games, and I gotta say, reading 'em back to back is interesting.

CCH1 was certainly more light-hearted and was very good at keeping everything feel localized until the final confrontation with Contrarian/Manipulator, which, quite literally, felt like it blew things wiiiiiiiiiide open.
CCH2, by comparison, felt more dramatic, loads more mature, and…it’s hard to describe, really, but the second game made me feel like I was underwater, being swept aside current after current after current from Savior and Prestige and the Dozen, until the final battle when Peck finally gets to make its stand. It was so freaking satisfying beating Manipulator…and then it just got even more heavy when Monster X showed up and cannibalizes Manipulator’s arm and you’re just kinda like, ā€œOh…ohhhhhhhhhh shit oh god holy shit I need an adult what do you mean I’m an adult???ā€ And, like, I was still riding my high after kicking Wyvern’s ass, so kudos for all that mood whiplash (thanks, i love it).

I’m honestly really excited for the last game. You’ve done a really fantastic job of building things up over the course of two books/games/etc, to the point that I’m both impatient and terrified of what you have planned.

I like how we didn’t get powers, or Stench armor, or do anything beyond human capabilities. Admittedly, I was a bit miffed at first because I really want my MC to get super powers and I was worrying that my MC wouldn’t have enough time to control them, but then the ending happens and Monster X shows you what terror feels like, and I realized that, ā€œHmm, maybe gaining powers is a bit above my MC at this point in time in the middle of Speck, Nebraska, hmmmmmmmmmmmā€, so don’t worry, you totally won me over, man. I think I’m still going to end up focusing on becoming a tactician though, just because…Batman is a cool, like, eff the JLA with their powers, they get their asses handed to 'em by Batman, and by gum, I will be Batman!

The other thing that I absolutely loved is how I’m distrustful af now of the Savior Institute. Ending CCH1, I was a total Hedonist groupie, so I was anti-Prestige, pro-Savior alllllllll the way, but actually meeting the Smarts, and even after crushing really hard on Streetsmart—it’s my fault, I imagined him as Nathan Fillon why did I do thaaaaaaaat?—I was just…so put off by Booksmart, like goddamnit woman, why you gotta be like that I looked up to you!! Going into CCH2 I honestly just expected myself to end up begging Hedonist to play me up so I could enroll, but daaaaaaaaaaaaamn I may have to stay in Nebraskaaaaaaaaaaa (I never thought I’d even think that).

But I think the most important thing that didn’t change at all between the two games was the sense of humor. The levity you were able to inject into both stories, I think, really keeps the two games together. Whether it be Dean Tolly making an appearance with dusty basketballs, or looking at a totally 90s photo of our dad, the humor is just part of the charm, of the fabric of this world. Despite the heaviness of the plot, I always look forward to the next moment of happiness, because it’ll blind me with brightness, kinda like Shine when he sneezes.

There’s more, but my brain is getting to that point at night where you forget more than you remember, so I’ll just wrap things up with my little wishlist for CCH3:

  • Hedonist as an RO because I’m Teacher’s Pet trash
  • I also loved Crook pls don’t kill him, he’s my backup in case Hedonist isn’t available
    • if you make a Hedonist-Crook love triangle, I will be eternally grateful I’m not even sure why that would happen, but if it does, I’ll take it.
  • More Manipulator she hates the Dozen, we hate the Dozen, she’s hot, the MC’s hot, it just works don’t ask how, it’s just science Jk jk, she doesn’t need to be an RO, but honestly? I just want to talk to her some more. We’ve gotten so many morally gray heroes, I think it’s high time to get a morally gray villain and to really see their point-of-view. (and it doesn’t hurt that I imagined her as looking like Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde—what is wrong with me, why do I do this to myself???)
  • More Mom
    • I loved my momma and her hip-hop dance class, it was so wholesome
  • More Friendzone. That is all

edit:

OH YEAH! I forgot to ask.

When Origami first asks you to go to the Children’s Hospital with her, she says she’s nineteen, but then in the second game, Jacob says she was his girlfriend, which made her thirteen?

Was our darling Origami a dirty, dirty liar? If so, then how the hell did she rent an apartment, w h a t ?

I must say I really enjoyed the discussion in the Community College 2 about the nature of having Super powered individuals in society. (A topic that is very often overlooked in favour of maintain the status quo.)

Zeniths (Much like Meta-humans, Parahumans, Mutants, ect) are very much the equivalent of weapons like knifes, swords, guns (And in some cases WMD’s) given to seemingly random members of society. Though in the community college verse there’s the added factor of these powers being expressing themselves in adolescence, a time in everyone’s life where we are still trying to understand our place and develop as people. Which I can safely say would have a rather large effect on how anyone would grow up, sometimes for good though more commonly either as a detriment to oneself or others. (As is the case with the vast majority of Rank 8 and above Zeniths in story.)

Now the kicker is that society as it is would not be able to function the same with the introduction of people that can at will ignore the powers of the state. (As the song I fought the law, and the law won goes.)
And in the Speckverse this is talked about with the introduction of the Prestige and Saviours Zenith schools (Along with the the 12, and the rise of small time Villains like the Wyvern.)

Though on a side note, I really like how the topic of the Government (And Smarts) are both trying to understand the process behind how Zenith radiation, and how it gives people powers is addressed. (I could imagine that a lot of countries and other groups would be very interested in the tech.)
It’s really realistic and most importantly smart. If you lived in a world where people had powers in their blood I see NO reason why you wouldn’t get a blood test, and this can be seen with how everyone is scrambling to find the old equipment from the cold war.

But I digress.
The first option, brought up by Booksmart is very, very idealistic, which can be given away by its very name…The Utopia Project. And as a notion it is a very powerful thing. Creating a world were you can save everyone is nothing to laugh at, but the problem with that is that not everyone wants to be saved…
And not every problem can be talked over.

As such her plan is fundamentally horrifying. Everyone is entitled to dream, and by virtue of that try to make that dream a reality, as is our right as individuals with freedom, of the mind, though not always of the body. But all dreams end, they have to, or else they become nothing more than a nightmares (More accurately a Night Terror.)

And her dream is just that, ( A somewhat common theme in both ideals of Prestige and Saviour is the loss of individuality, either through becoming a guided (By Booksmart and StreetSmarts powers and intelligence.) community, with global telepathy. Or as is the case with Prestige through strict regimented training making you a machine/ tool in a system.), a threat to the very idea of freedom of thought. And just as importantly individuality.

(Her plan would stop the possible chaos of hundreds of new villains and powered individuals popping up and hurting people, but at what cost.)

(Worse yet, she’s smart enough to succeed.)

The second response is by Mega Cat, and is definitely sponsored by the government.
There basic idea is to create a regimented system for the training of Zeniths (Much like the military), and would probably be incorporated into an existing branch of the government.

Numbers, training, and regulation would be the solution that Mega Cat offers to stop the collapse of the nation in the face of at least thousands of Zeniths.

But we all know what the Government is like, it’s run by people with agendas and agendas change.

Both option are at the very best… Ignoring how rife for abuse they are necessary evils, though evils none the less.

But it is very nice that they are both addressed.
Personally I hope we can do a third solution, as in the words of Captain America I will not tolerate — I will not allow — any talk of the necessity of necessary evil. If Booksmart is free to dream of saving the world. Than it should stand to reason that we should be allowed to save those around us from the horrors of Booksmart and Mega Cat.

I still want to do the ending of Sweeny Todd to Contrarian.

Does anyone know how to win the poker game?

Thanks! I’ve played the game three times already (I might have a problem!) and I’ve just never refused the rub down, lol. I feel a little better about openly dating him now.
