From reading Jason’s past comments on the subject that seems to be the case yes. One can get Bailey to wipe someone’s memory. Like the not a vampire at the fair or that woman on the homestead who saw west but we can’t do it ourselves.
I remember talking to Bailey right before that scene happened. I’m probably misremembering the scene but I think it was my character the one who erased the memory… You might be right, though.
I’m just playing a game now with a character on 4 charm but I’ll look over the relevant scenes with those details again and send you what I find. By the way, do you know how we can start a flirtation with Chiara the New Orleans senator? There seem to have been a few changes to the requirements.
It is interesting how interacting with the mortals is a sequence of constant, careful maneuvering to avoid provoking one of them into becoming the founder of the Sons of Dawn, a sect of vampire hunters.
Some are obvious, others less so. It can be as early as trying to feed on Jackson at the party, in which case, the founder is Duplessis.
Next, there is Wilson, during the incident where he is trying to help his brother escape. If one does not want to have anything to do with it, then they need to separate the two and discreetly kill Wilson’s brother. Otherwise, telling Wilson to take his business and brother out of the PC’s haven is not enough. It will trigger him to become the founder of those vampire hunters.
Then, there is Silas. It is like a minefield with him. See him for the first time and try to feed upon him, and no matter how it ends, it will trigger his friend in the army, Compton, to found the Sons of Dawn. Engaging Silas in a romance is much the same. Apparently, playing that predictably tragic romance to its very end will trigger Compton to become the founder of the Sons of Dawn, one way or another. It is just as well that my PC is a priest who takes his vows very seriously and would never even consider such a thing.
Proceeding onward, if one encounters Clotho in Memphis, there is a possibility of the church founding the Sons of Dawn, though it is easy to avoid. One simply needs to refuse picking the option to slaughter Clotho in the classroom and splatter her body parts everywhere for amusement.
Subsequently, there is Franklin. At the very end, when the PC is fleeing Memphis, one should take care to give him at least enough money to flee Memphis himself. If not, well, simply bidding him farewell is not a viable course, as it will cause him to found the Sons of Dawn. If a PC does not even have enough money left to spare so that Franklin can flee Memphis, then one must either kill Franklin or take Franklin with them, unhappy as he is to leave his people.
In Saint Louis, it is not so difficult to avoid, so long as one is exercising common sense. In the matter of the church confession, one should obviously not choose the option to confess to the point of violating the Masquerade. If the PC does so, leaving without doing anything about the priest or minister will unsurprisingly cause them to found the Sons of Dawn. If the PC is stupid enough to confess even the parts involving vampires, then the only option left is to kill the priest/minister. Of course, if the PC is not of sufficient combat expertise to do so, the priest/minister will survive and found the Sons of Dawn.
If I’m reading things correctly, you need high relationship with her, the support of at least 2 voters, and your Dominus has to be dead.
Here we are. This character has 4 charm and the Verba Ob but can’t erase the memory of West. I think the opportunity to offer Bailey a debt to erase the memory comes when the character has a high enough compassion level.
Thanks for the Chiara advice. Do you know how we can get a high relationship with her by any chance? Unlike with Bailey and so forth, there’s isn’t an option in the stat increase selection scene to improve our relations with her. Perhaps Chiara could be added to this @jasonstevanhill?
Did you try it? Did it work?
I know how you don’t get a high relationship with her:
- high hubris, low willpower, being exiled from New Orleans…
- This doesn’t (most likely) help with Harding or anyone who thinks highly of themselves for that matter.
I’m still trying to figure all this out.

Edit 1: @jasonstevanhill
Out of the three possible valets that we can choose for our character Ernst is the one that was described as a former Union soldier.
Also he doesn’t appear in the mortals’ gallery.
Ernst is already dead at this point. (See the previous discrepancy.)
It looks like something was supposed to appear before the word “retorts”.
If I haven’t triggered the sons of dawn does that mean I’m a good vampire?
It’s the first time I’ve heard of this. I guess pats on the back for me for not triggering them in any way lol
Hm, well, even if one has triggered the Sons of the Dawn plot, they may not necessarily realize it, because it only really comes into play in Saint Louis if one’s Exposure exceeds the critical threshold.
do you know how to trigger tryphon conversation ?
When does that take place?
Well, as far as I am aware, it currently cannot be done. Investigate_memeskia needs to be at more than 3 for him to reveal some information about Tryphon. Currently, one cannot get more than 3 points in investigating Memeskia. 2 points can be gained if one’s haven is in the east. If rapport with Fragala is high enough, he will warn about the flooding. Technology and Perception both need to be at least 1 to see the danger. Afterwards, one can investigate why the Venice levee broke. The enterprise the PC chose must be the criminal underworld one. It will give 2 points into investigating Memeskia, revealing that he deliberately arranged for the levee’s sabotage. The 3rd point can be gained by asking for his opinion about the problem regarding the sickness and whether the Germans should help or protect themselves. If one’s rapport with Memeskia is high enough, it will give another point in investigating him.
Even if Memskia reveals some information about Tryphon, it is still not enough to know everything else. Tryphon_identity has 1 added to it by Memeskia if investigation points for Memeskia are more than 3, which is currently impossible. One can meet Maffi during the fair and ask her about Tryphon to learn the rest of the information about him, but only if tryphon_identity is greater than 1, which is also currently impossible.
sadly i tried what you said but it seems that im having a problem building a rapport with fragala and there is no way for me to investigate the levee broke
I am not entirely certain, but based upon the coding, it may be possible for a PC with a haven in the east to detect the danger without being warned by Fragala, though Technology and Perception must be at least 1. Assuming that the choice can be chosen, though, it would increase Exposure by 1.
Well, even if you had been able to do so, with the way the coding currently stands, it would be impossible to trigger the Tryphon revelation from Memeskia, in any case.
I haven’t much luck just yet. There used to be an option for a West scion who’s more or less avoided the Society to start a relationship with her so long as they don’t ask about the elections. I’ll keep you updated though.
One other question: How did you manage to survive Ernst the servant trying to kill you? Was it just high willpower that did it?
willpower is one of the factor, high willpower can make your mc at least briefly awake during the daylight and also increase your fortitude, others factors that come into play are strength, agility, perception, stealth, fighting, and technology
if you simply what to kill ernst and the hunters just make sure your mc is combat oriented
however if you simply wanted to run away from them just make sure your agillity high along with your perception
Uhhhhh, who’s Tryphon btw? I have played the game multiple times but I still haven’t scratched the surface.
tryphon is an elder vampire and the sole reason why west begin terrorizing st. louis, he wants to find him and drinks his heartsblood
I found a bug regarding the memphis election, when sending a letter to john bailey about ascher fascination on andrew jackson it was arthur lockridge who replies it not john bailey
Interesting. How did you know about it? By looking at the codes or through the game with your character? What type of character you are playing?
