Choice of Rebels: Uprising — Lead the revolt against a bloodthirsty empire!

I’m sorry if I’m intruding but I would like to join in when I can. I have played Choice of Rebels: Uprising a few samples but I still don’t understand the history, lore, the political situations etc. I would love it if someone fill me in because I could understand what’s going on.

Here’s a little summary I made to explain why the revolt happened and what it’ll spiral into.

You can read most of the basic in World Index in stats menu. Most of the other details that hasn’t been mentioned ingame can be read here.

Thank you guys so much!

Oh, it happened way before our revolt, the mc is just the latest and most successful but they didn’t completely succeed in smashing Cabel’s either as the Cabel partisans are very much a thing already and before the mc’s rebellion actually defeated a small army I doubt we were any worse than the other ongoing insurgency(ies).
The only difference really is that the mc’s is primarily composed of helots instead of yeomen like Cabel or nobles like the Laconniers.

It started well before that as the system she built the conquests on was always going to be unsustainable, it’s frankly a miracle it managed to limp on for four centuries, had she succeeded in conquering Halassur the lifespan of her empire may have been more comparable to that of Alexander and probably would have pretty much imploded straight after her death.
Maybe we’ll actually get to debate that counterfactual with the guy who ordered her assassination later on.

I’d say the Hegemony is well beyond that point already what with the clerurchies. They are already in the business of directly apportioning land to some of their own farmers.

You’ve missed my main points entirely.

Thautmarch seems to be a military title, it wasn’t meant to be a civilian administrator title. Hera died before she could finish her vision. Her son didn’t have the luxury of seeing it out either, since he had to quickly consolidate the fragmenting Hegemony, crush the revolts, destroy his siblings (if any), force the generals and mage-lords to accept his rule, and then deal with the problem of the Xaos Lands which became increasingly more problematic.

And that’s not what I meant either about successful revolts. There’s always been bandit-kings who are scattered and so insignificant now that beyond a few sweeps they don’t require much. This is a precipitous event, one that signals that the Hegemony has failed.

Why isn’t Hector there? Did you drop him as an RO? Or was this before you decided to add him as na RO? Or am I misremembering?

I hope that we will be able to work out some kind of compromise between two factions if our mc will be charismatic or/and intelligent enough combined with good relations with nobles overall and right choices through the games. Well, even if unity between these two will not be possible, i still don’t want to purge one of them, especially when we have a Hegemony to be dealt with.

Considering the way the Hegemony reacts to the player’s revolt I would actually be surprised if large bandit groups were common. I think once a positive blood threshold is reached it becomes economical to hunt down outlaws and that’s beside the authoritarian considerations of not showing weakness or a blind spot.

If we defeat the Hegemony in battle, will they come down harder on us than if we just evade them/infiltrate camps? I think it was Breden that said they sent an army to test us, and now they know exactly how we fight.

Also, I don’t get how you guys think that having widespread magic and theurgy will be beneficial. Just us and Yebben as theurges can be a game changer in the war. Everyone here making plans about agriculture and industry, while forgetting that other people can rebel against your regime after the dust settles. Now, imagine if everyone has access to Theurgy? Now your opponents and other post-hegemonic rebels will have access to an advantage you barely had in sizable numbers.

Theurgy must be suppressed among the commons, and it’s teaching needs to be extremely restricted and supervised with hawk-like eyes by the new regime. Imagine the chaos if every one who had a grudge with you had access to blood magic? Madness. Now imagine if a uneducated peasant had access to it by just shedding a little blood? They would burn down Rim Square in a month.

Blood magic only for trained Theurges and your loyalists. No exceptions.

This was the last relevant post I could find. To me it seems like any attempt at a relationship with Hector is doomed to fail.

@Havenstone, would you say any of your characters are an “Author Surrogate”?

No, I wouldn’t. I’m fond of them all but I wouldn’t say any of them are much more “me” than others.

(And btw, ny answer on Hector as RO remains the same as previously.)

Went poking around in the code because I noticed there was a theurge still alive after choosing

#Because they don’t know I’m a ${wisard}, I have a chance to destroy them all with a single dramatic blow.

in the final chapter.

*if theurgy = 3
one of your rebels glances over at you, a grin trembling on his face. "Angels, ${addressu}. If you had to show them all we've got a ${wisard} in the band, you picked the right swiving time for it."
              *set theurgy 4
              *if atkboth2
                *page_break
While the Phalangites are still reeling from the loss of their Theurges, you move swiftly to wipe out their supply train.

                *goto supplytrain
              *goto pullback
"What in the name of Almighty Xthonos was that?"
          *if kal_here
            ${kalt}
          *if not(kal_here) and el_here
            Elery
          *if (not(el_here) and not(kal_here))
            Young Earnn
demands, throat so dry that the words barely escape.

          *gosub wisexplain
          *set theirmorale -(theurges*50)
          *set theurges 0

They stare at you with more questions and fears than anyone is ready to put into words. At last
          *if el_here
Elery shakes her head and says,
          *if not(el_here) and kal_here
            ${kalt} snorts,
          *if (not(el_here) and not(kal_here))
            an awestruck Earnn mumbles,
          "Well, ${addressu},
          *if (el_here) or (kal_here)
            I have to say…that was a Xthon'damned
good time to pull that secret out of the air."
          *set theurgy 4
          *if atkboth2
            *page_break
While the Phalangites are still reeling from the loss of their Theurges, you move swiftly to wipe out their supply train.

            *goto supplytrain
          *goto pullback

As you can see in this snippet of code, the “theurges” stat isnt set to 0 for MC’s with theurgy = 3, only with MC’s who have theurgy = 2. So, for MC’s who revealed their theurgy to the band during chapter 2, but haven’t used it in public, they can choose this decision but no theurges actually die.

How did you get the code

Here is a link the the XOR code: https://www.choiceofgames.com/rebels/scenes/startup.txt

To view different chapter’s code, copy and paste one of the lines under *scene_list into the link where “startup” is, leaving the .txt at the end.

An example would be https://www.choiceofgames.com/rebels/scenes/chirex.txt , if you wanted to look at the code for the first chapter. Chapters with a $ at the beggining are pay-gated, so you must have a tab of XOR open and login with an account that has XOR purchased.

Here is where you must login: Choice of Rebels: Uprising

If you would like to view the code for the stats page, you would put “choicescript_stats” in place of “startup”

Sorry I don’t know, I don’t have any experience with the COG app.
