@poison_Mara do you not see how we are trying to get the master of all, Lord Havenstone to weaken you and your nobles? >:)
In all seriousness though it is, at least from what I’ve seen more of a challenge to play as an aristo.
For me is quite a challenge to get in character knowing my girl hate them all so badly, and faking a smile and treat them as equals when she feels sick only with their presence. She is so sweet… but inside nausea and hatred is eat but she is clever and understand she need a brutal trash army to break against hegemony like a whip. Before a attract the real people the nobles the people created to rule over the animals.
@poison_Mara hmm maybe you should skip the whole rebellion thing and join hegemony. Seems easier lol
I just feel that the game got that much better as an aristocrat forced into the circumstances with some reluctance, to me I just think it feels much better than the original aristocratic character that would automatically throw away any distinction they previously felt that they had from the helots just because Breden looks pretty. I’m eagerly anticipating the more haughty aristocrat options being introduced to some of the later parts of the current demo, particularly where you make the poor noble nearly cry for no reason at all (aside from the benefit of the helot followers listening in, I guess, but it still bothers me every time) and the very touching moment with the father when he’s telling you that you’re worth so much more than the helots and you can’t reassure him due to, again, concerns over popularity with two dozen helots.
To me, it’s fine to play helots whether they’re friendly to nobles or not, it’s great to play as the haughty aristocrat just forced into the circumstances, but it’s less than fine to play the liberal-minded aristocrat. That one just seems, well, I guess a little anachronistic compared to the others? It just bothers me to play as that one.
Hi @Golgot, on anachronism, I’ll point you back to something I wrote last year about real world antecedents: http://www.choiceofgames.com/forum/discussion/comment/88331#Comment_88331
But I’m glad you like the haughty path. I’ve changed the Suzane options in the new version I’m editing, and great point that the one scene with your dad also needs a tweak.
@Razgriz Hegemony Doesn’t want Mara. She is a broke noble with no influence and no magical powers, no way my character goes up in the Hegemony. And my girl is really ambitious and power hungry.
@Golgot totally agree
@Havenstone perhaps you could stress it out more that the MC is from a poor family with only a few helots and has a closer relationship with them then the keriatou who don’t even know if a helot is their or not.
@poison_mara maybe she’s actualy the traitor? A kryptast who’s first mission is to trigger a rebellion and get all those who participate or aid killed. She could then become head kryptast or something like that and make a coup and take power.
seriously, what do you think of the possibility to make the MC the traitor, @Heavenstone?
@poison_mara hey that’s what the poisons for. You use your charismatic powers on the people you’re with and slowly but surely you assassinate or charm your way to the top. Making sure you have a loyal group of nobles who have infiltrated the hegemony with you and from there weed out those you want and those you don’t want until finally you’re the new queen bee. And maybe if I helped you rise by using my 2 combat I can be second in command? *bows* Please lady Mara? I’m also certain Lord Havenstone will make this entire storyline for you. Lol
@Razgriz Mara is charming But NOT Too charming to make poor @Havenstone do an entire Mara arc lol. The game is already too complex. Always he remember the fact no all rebel leaders are goody idealist and many are in it for their own gain all be perfect.
@poison_mara darn well it was worth a shot though
@Havenstone I know that there are historical precedents, it just seems to me that those were, I don’t know, just thought out a bit more than the MC’s conversion? It’s just hard on your end to convey the MC having a ton of religious/other sympathy for the helots through more than just saying that they’ve felt that way over the years, since there’s barely any time for that kind of characterization before the rebellion (at least if you don’t pick the right introduction sequences, ‘right’ being probably the plektoi intro for this one) starts and so you’re forced to rely more on the telling end of the spectrum than the showing.
It was just a little alarming to go from a sort of mention here and there that helots were free and nobles weren’t quite so lofty back in the old days of Shayard and that the religion had more of an emphasis on not being terrible to them-- sure, that’s all fine-- to suddenly having the main character ‘forsaking all noble privilege’ the moment they were run off into the woods. I guess I was expecting more that the main character would try elevating the dignity of the helots to the extent that he could in the harsh conditions more than attempting to step down from his station in life even as he’s taking up the leadership position.
I do want to applaud you for making the haughty aristocrat dialogue fit in so very well even though you hadn’t initially provided for it, it seems to fit in as snugly as the skin on one’s hand in the parts where it’s been implemented.
I was wondering if there was any way to boost up one of your stats like charisma and fighting and intellect later in the game.
That’s been confirmed several times, I think it was said that you can bring a single stat up to 6 or 7 if you put all of your focus on it.
But not in Game 1.
are there going to be lower level stat checks later on in the games? i ask because i am curios of the viability of a jack of all trades character, and i was wonder if that meant i could do a bit of everything or if i would fall flat on my face regardless of what i attempt
Quick so I don’t waste time doing the play through again has anything been added since?
Thanks for the response cleared up my questions perfectly, and sorry for my delayed one.
I was mostly interested in how a devout character would be handling the discovery of their Theurgic Gift and it’s use. Knowing that the Power of the Angels is implicitly meant to be Theurgy, makes me slightly more comfortable with its use; so long as it’s my blood being used.
I think the scenes where you learn Theurgy should be tailored based on the Skeptical/Devout stat. It should probably only be tailored if you selected one of them as one of the things you hate about the Hegemony. Leave the original text as a neutral option for PCs that haven’t expressed much or any interest on the matter. I can’t remember which scene in particular should be tweaked, but I believe it’s the closing of the vignette.
Apologize for the lack of specific adjustments for those scenes. It has been a while since my last read, and I really want to give it a fresh read when the new content is ready. I will be sure to check out those scenes again after that first fresh slow read through.
@Matteller, there will definitely be low level stat checks in future games, with the intent that neither Jack of all trades nor specialisation would be an obviously superior strategy.
@WulfyK, while it would doubtless make Shyamalan clap his hands and dance for joy, I think making the MC the traitor would lead to a lot of disgruntled reader comments about not giving a choice on such a fundamental issue. Plus I already know who the traitor is, and – SPOILER – it’s not you.
@WinterHawk, I’ll have a look at a little cosmetic tailoring of those scenes.
Beez, is it ever a waste to do another playthrough? But no, no substantive updates yet.
@Havestone You are really wrong Mara del Jade its the real traitor in my game lol. X( .It would be cool if you have x hidden stat you are the traitor. After all She hates more commoners than herarcy lot more.
Damn you, M. Night Shyamamalhama-sama!
