Hit a little bug. I was checking my stats while playing the attacking the Alastors garrisons quest. I clicked to go back to the game and it kept looping me back to the stats.
I started Choice of Rebels with some hesitance, since the title didn’t draw me in. “Be a rebel? What? What if I don’t want to be a rebel?” Also, the beginning was kind of slow and very much mired in the game’s own world and mythology, thus feeling less approachable.
I was so wrong in any sort of negativity, though. I never thought there would be another CoG that could rival or even beat JimD’s Zombie Exodus, but Choice of Rebels is a very serious contender.
The writing is excellent. The characters are excellent. The choices (the most important part, in my mind) are excellent. I played through once and was thinking of suggesting that it would be cool if Bleys could join the rebellion. I played through again and found that option. Damn! You thought of everything! I’m really impressed.
I almost wonder if this could be the #1 CoG on this site. It was absolutely agonizing to have to stop.
I’m a big fan, and I’ll definitely be purchasing CoR when it gets released.
Hmm, that reminds me, I’d like to see what the sacred texts actually say about theurgy.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole “theurgy is either a divine gift or from consorting with demons” is just another lie the church tells to consolidate their own power and have nothing to do with what the texts say.
And that should come up, especially if you’re a theurgist yourself, some of your followers are religious, shouldn’t the fact that according to their religion you’re power comes from demons be an issue?
Since theurgy comes from education, any theurgist pc ought to be prepared to defend their position.
I am the only one atheist rebel here? i go for all that is superstition bullshit i would broken barriers easy i could Im a cosmopolitan nationalist . So i dont use bloody yumbo to win . My character even believes blood is not needed at all is only used to dominate slaves and fear in noble people.
@MaraJade I’d consider my character to be Atheist, or at least as close to it as the world allows. I’ve found that my followers don’t like how I’m not as devout as them, but it’s offset by the fact that I don’t allow any killings beyond what is necessary. I suppose my character’s goal is to systematically take down both the gov’t and the religion, if that’s possible
Being a skeptic is like being cosmopolitan thus far in that the few choices for those views which change up your credibility don’t really do it any favors. It needlessly antagonizes priests of the old order, and I want them to eventually bring their influence to my side. The one cosmopolitan choice that I could find to change up any credibility took a similarly negative turn for the merchants and aristocrats.
That may change later on or elsewhere, but for the moment the revolt has more friends among the upper crust if one is a pious nationalist.
@Golgot, I suspect your lack of religion will stand you in good stead once the rebellion starts in earnest; the northern people are all skeptics, and if you are a particularly religious character you will not gain their support so easily.
It will definitely help gain support with them if you are a skeptic yourself.
As I said, it may change later on in the revolt and elsewhere (say, Nyr), but for the moment there’s no real use to skepticism beyond seeing how far one can go to make the priests hate the rebellion.
As far as my character is concerned, it’s great if other groups take advantage of the instability to begin their own national revolts since that would weaken the Karagonds, but his fight ends the moment he’s able to strongly secure independence for Shayard.
Anyway my character would become a villiain dictactor soon i can and create a Poison empire… Everybody hail lord Revan. opps
i mean Mara !
Revan is one of the weakest Star Wars characters.
@stsword, you can already kill the psychopathic swineherd – try some different paths through ch 3.
I didn’t want to keep bothering people who’d expressed a positive trust in Breden with “but do you really trust her?” questions – unless and until new concrete evidence emerges to call that trust into doubt again.
@Scelous, thanks so much! In my opinion, I’ve got a long way to go before I match the excellence of JimD’s work, but to even be on the same league table is a terrific compliment.
I’ve played some so far, going through my favourite path again. I may explore the others later.
It’s just so much richer than it was. I’ve a greater sense of the characters and their personalities. The world feels alive. The plot is still as intriguing as ever, but given more depth with the additions you’ve made.
Will we find out who the traitor is before the end of this part? Or do we need to wait until Part 2? I’ve liked everything I’ve read so far. Great setting, great story, great characters, so much choice. Yeah no suggestions I can make so far. I’ll see if that changes after I do some raiding.
Hurry up and finish so I can buy it.
I have decided like Stalin ALL MY REBEL COMRADES ARE TRAITORS and worst helots. Some people its about to die and disappear from the records i think Belhen would be Trosky … Some helots and imperials would day soon … But first i hope secuels include my girl having pure blood nobles :-"
Leon Trotsky didn’t disappear from record he was stabbed in the back of the head with an ice Axe. Then fended off the assassin Stalin sent after him turned him over to his body guards then died a day later in the hospital
@Havenstone - Just noticed for the first time an error at the passage when the dancing is underway:
“…Ciels, one of the band’s best trackers, who turned outlaw shortly before you arrived. who’s evidently as good a dancer…”
Read it before but I suppose my mind didn’t register it.
Playing this game I think to myself I’m the new Machiavelli
@JTAL - thanks, should be fixed!
@FairyGodfeather, glad you’re enjoying it. And as for your question: that would be telling.
@Mara, let the purges begin.
Oh I encountered a bug. I spent all of my money. I went to the stats screen and when I returned rather than being on the talking about finding the traitor scene I was back to spending money.
Oh and I returned, chose another option and got the illegal to fall out of a choice statement at line 556. The button’s stuck on return to game when it should say stats too.
Well yes! It would be telling. That’s why I asked? Tell! I want to know.
Okay this is my sad grumbly face. Grumble grumble.
=(( :-(( >:P :((
I’ve changed my mind in regards to the tax collector raid as an IAP. Getting the chance to play through the raid helped, a lot, to make up my mind.
That raid destroys the game balance. It’s not equal with the other possible choices. It removes the difficult decisions on how your group can survive and provides an easy solution, with little consequences. You lose a few people, but they’re nameless and it doesn’t matter and in return you can ensure everyone survives the winter, with plenty of money to spare.
If it had just read “IAP 99c to survive the winter” I’d have had no issues. That it’s wrapped up in plot, possible story, that I might be missing was the problem. But then I’m not used to purchasing IAP and the wider audience is. To me the tax raid is a game changer, just like having no weakness.
@FairyGodfeather Why? In my opinion the tax collector raid finally makes it just as easy for my moral theurgist as it already was for the high charisma and high combat characters (although the high combat character does have the drawback that the psychotic swineherd becomes unavoidable, I suppose).
As for the IAP’s in general I still hope there will be a gold version or something that allows me to pay for everything up front or alternatvily that this game will use COG’s new payment system and that we will be able to purchase it directly from the website and that the website will allow me to purchase between 20-40 COG points at once that I can later spend on games and IAP’s at my discretion without incurring transaction costs every single time I do something.
