Choice of Rebels Part 1 WIP thread

I understood that you were banging your editor away. LOL SORRY A mule and a forest group of rebels with bows could be epic

Good suggestion… but I think we’ll save that for next game.

Yeah, it is a good suggestion, but this first game has been more about surviving and keeping the rebellion alive then image politics. Plus dressing like a “noble”, which judging by what even a presumably minor but relatively well-off country noble like Simon wears when he first joins up would be highly impractical in those damp winter woods.

Then again I’ve already commented about the fashion here and the possible “bling of war”, that many of the nobles, likely the Shayardene and Errezziano in particular, given their cultures, may be fond of.

They could certainly make for fun additions to the game, once we get a better resource base and actually begin to take over large towns and small cities to begin with.

New error. It is the hounds once again, but with a different variable.

hounds line 244: bad label zvadcounsel

Huh. Searching how it’s used in the file, I don’t see how that can be a bad label. Very sorry to ask it, but (if you didn’t already) can you clear your browser cache just to make sure that it’s not getting confused by an old version of the txt file on dashingdon, and see if you can replicate it?

Yep, I cleared my cache and did a quick run through, and with a different browser as well, and I still get that error.

hounds line 244: bad label zvadcounsel

This is the part where it occurred at.
Your deputy is the first to speak.

It is possible something may be screwy on my end, so if no one else gets the error, then don’t worry about it.

I’m getting it too, in a private window. So it should be a clean cache.

Huh. Well, search me, gang. “zvadcounsel” shows up three times in the file, twice as a gosub, once as the label to which the gosub refers. I can’t see anything that would make it a bad label. Anyone else want to have a look?

I only see it twice… Both times as a *gosub, I don’t see the *label for it? At least that is what control F is telling me.

Wait *gosubs still need *labels right? Because if so I’m having trouble finding any of the *gosubs *label's in hounds.

Man, I really like this game, but I usually chicken out at the part about food rations xD I can’t take having virtual people’s lives in my hands. I think I’ll just wait for a guide like in Zombie Exodus x’DD

Doctor, heal thyself. I hadn’t cleared my own cache.

OK, I think we’ve now got a hounds that works again… fingers crossed?

It is working on my end without error

Minor grammar correction: with de Firiac
when she finally joins the she main band, she doesn’t meet your eyes.

Correction:
Remove the ‘she’ (or other pronouns) before ‘main’

So, I’m now completely torn about Breden. I was a big fan of the Breden romance before, but considering his/her behavior in Chapter Four, I suspect that he/she is probably a kryptast. Much sadness abounds.

@Havenstone:

You might want to double check the whole mules again, especially if you drop below zero, and try to reallocate them. I had about 25, though some were used for grain, and the sick. I tried to use some of them for smuggling as well.

I was able to get this to show up, and this happened after I decided to remove all mules from service:
Cancel all orders involving mules – I want all -8 of the band’s mules to be free for new commitments this week.

There shouldn’t be a way to have -8 mules. My Theurgist hasn’t learned the secrets of reanimation if nothing else.

Was doing this til 4 am last night. :sleepy: Fixed several bugs, including a chapter-killer that had you suddenly send 95 mules and outlaws to buy grain, regardless of how many were actually in the band, which of course led to a collapse next week because you didn’t have any free followers left for anything.

I didn’t quite manage a QT-passing version – I was also trying to simplify my code by updating some input_number parameters which then went all buggy – but as soon as I get it sorted I’ll update the public alpha version on Dashingdon and we’ll see whether the anti-mules are a thing of the past.

Havie I am a role player and about the mules Several in text say That are old and won’t last long after winter. Could I choose sold the old sick mules. I don’t use Mules as a money bonus, But as rp player I should sold those lol.

Also The game suppose I hada big defeat well that’s false taking account that less thirty people achieve their goal of survive and runaway.
Remember I have no more 120 men and I send then to sneak in commoners. I killed a Hunter doggie with my Lacoste spears. I mean I am very proud of my outcome also I did not have a massive poisoning. So far I think I didn’t suffer a defeat And they don’t win. THIRTY REBELS HAS AVOID YOUR BIG DEAL HUNT.
@Havenstone Yo broski, a couple things I’ve noticed. My first thing I’m asking more rather than reporting. You can use super theurgy to wipe out the theurges if you have kept your theurgy a secret but only if you bury the supply train instead of keeping things secret till then. Is that intentional?

An actual bug I noticed is that it can say you have negative adults left after getting hit trying to retreat during the morning. I’ve also noticed a couple times in the stats screen where the total between young and adult bandits don’t add up to total number of outlaws so that might need to be looked into.

Another very quirky event also took place in chapter 4; I was a theurge and had one combat. So I set everything up amazingly for the final confrontation at the top of the mountain, the stats heading into the battle had the phalangites at 490 some troops left and negative 450 morale lol. I also had successfully murdered all of the theurges, set the forest aflame, crushed the Plektoi and acquired the three files of blood from them. However I went on to use the files and throw fire at the oncoming hoard, hoping to break their resolve before they crushed the last 27 of my men lol, however I was immediately called out by the (dead) theurges and set on fire. Obviously the theurges shouldn’t have been alive in that situation however I wanted to know if I should’ve been able to route them with theurgy in that situation or not after the bug is fixed? My men’s morale was at least 200+ but I don’t remember exactly what it was.
Do the angels in the world actually exist?
It’s a fantasy world with magic so I thought they exist but that the hegemony changed their religion to support Theurgy.
But after I tried a devout MC the angels never helped me at all, regardless of what I did and how much I tried to pray (there is a time when you can get captured and try to pray and they never help you).
It makes me wonder why do the people (especially helots) believe in them even though they are not on their side at all. If you try to convince the rebels that there are no angels they will never accept that (even if you have 2 charisma, if you pick the option that angels do not exist they will refuse it)

Actually you can get the group to reject religion entirely and replace it with konine (probably spelled that wrong been awhile since I ran that character) but it requires more than just charisma.

As for why anyone would believe something with no evidence I ask the same thing about the billions of religious people in our own reality. Faith tends to be stronger than logic for a lot of people.

Another bug. If you confess to Zvad your doubts about Breden, he mentions about a stream you can get rid of him. If you do, he is gone (which is fine).

However, the game still acts like he is still in the group later:
The cheery mood dissipates as the news spreads that Breden is gone. He never returned to his tent, and although the perimeter guards didn’t see him pass, he is clearly nowhere to be found.

“Do we hunt for him, kuria?” Hetten the brewer asks. Like most of the band, he saw the end of your confrontation with Breden last night. He’s clearly unsure whether the popular young helot’s disappearance is due to a personal quarrel or something more serious.

Additioanlly, if you took de Firiac prisoner, and then let her/him go as the Phalangites closed in, the game acts as if de Firiac is in your party at the very end in the place where you choose who is to lead the band in the end game.
