Choice of Rebels Part 1 WIP thread

NEVER!

20 character limit, eh? First time I’ve encountered that…

Waste your time making bad decisions and having Breden run off on you like the Not Hot they are, okay.

I just have a rule against looking at the game code for the really good COG games, and XOR is one of the two games I have discovered on COG in my over three years knowing of this site I consider good enough to apply this rule to.

I was going to use Havies skip to chapter tool but realized I don’t know what chapter to go to. Hm, well I have some things I want to do with a full playthrough anyway. Ideas to test, results to record…

Havie even wants people to look at the code to test for bugs, but your loss!

@Bagelthief

Honestly I think the rebellion was something of a happy accident for the Hegemony. I’m of the opinion that Breden gathering up seditious youngsters was a small-scale operation, with the uprising being an unforeseen consequence (looking at the odds, deliberately provoking one seems like a long shot to me). Looking at Breden’s behavior in the context of that theory I agree with you, they seem like someone who is really in over their head, extremely conflicted, and trying to make the best of a truly shitty situation.

@Divine_Apostasy

The scene is in the latest unfinished chapter, after you marry Breden.

They run away at any possible sign that they might be killed or argued against or anything might leak out. I’m one who thinks the rebellion was planned by Breden, but wasn’t suspecting it to be this successful.

And yet it is rebelling, revolution and an uprising which Breden mentions with you if you join them. Almost as if they’re prompting you. I don’t think they’re the main traitor, no. But they flee at the first sign of danger, keep to themself especially regarding info, openly lie and their reasoning just doesn’t match up; and, unlike a certain cat who you and I both know does the same, they don’t come full circle and act genuine on their own; most, if not all that they do, is in regards to you and the rebellion.

Because Breden’s panicking. Because they’re not just witholding information, but trying to stay afloat in an entirely different game then they planned for.

I’m guessing it’s something stat-based then, as I said I never got such an option. [/quote]

Partly. As a noble, you can get a chat with Calea either directly by having INT 2 or indirectly by being in love with Hector. It’s also (I believe) the first part of the game where it’s actually possible to die.

Checked the code; seems so!

Thanks to Sneaks I was able to find the scene in question faster than expected, and I must say for those who think this makes Breden ‘kryptast confirmed’ I am a bit less than impressed.

This secret (if it is a secret and not an urban legend) is by definition not something that only a kryptast would know, far from it.

Every soldier in every unit of the Hegemony would have to be taught this if it was true, or at the very least all of them above a certain rank. If it is all above a certain rank, it would have to be a relatively low rank at that. I highly doubt that I should have to go into detail about why this is the case, but I can if I must.

So now that we know every soldier in the Hegemony is taught this (again assuming it is true) we should realize that this really isn’t exactly top secret at all. In fact, I suspect that the only reason a sedicious youth of a noble like my MC didn’t already know this information long before Breden ever mentioned it is because he lives in the Hegemonies equivalent of modern Montana and there isn’t a single phalangite stationed within many miles (present company brought in to join the party we’ve been throwing excluded, of course.)

Okay but how the fruck would they know this.

A code? Okay… alright… sounds fake but okay.

I don’t think Breden is a kryptast. But I do think they’re bullshitting.

Have you read the conversation in question? It becomes obvious why every soldier would have to know it once you know the nature of the code. And yes it could be fake, you’ll notice I qualified my assesment with “assuming it isn’t an urban legend or something”

So rude! After I already told everyone I had! Ew, get that accusation away from me. RUDE.

But how Breden picked that up isn’t shifty to you at all?

Oh, Breden’s shifty, very shifty indeed!

See? Now you agree! Everyone agrees Breden a shifty ass liar! Except for some - rude - body! :triumph: :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Or, you know, at least the original beta testers are in agreement, it seems (?)

Yep. If true, it would need to be known to platoon commanders to be of much use – even to some non-nobles and certainly to noble Phalangites. It would be fairly widely whispered about.

I’ve intended there to be multiple interpretations of Breden as a character and the identity of the Rim Square traitor. If “everyone agrees” about Breden, then I’m not doing my job as a writer.

So stay friendly, folks; put your own interpretations out there, but don’t disparage others’ interpretations (or their reading ability). :slight_smile:

Not an accusation, I was just confirming. Maybe I missed where you said that. I don’t remember anyone but Sneaks and Vertigo saying they had for sure so I was just double checking.

Nope.

It were a joke! As u can see from the over the top stuff, or rather, didn’t

Alright… I’m just saying/////////…

I now you don’t want to be rude. You are just like me very passionate about this. But you have to remember that what you experience in your game is not canonical. A Cog strong pointbis that choices matters. Maybe your Breden is loyal and you will end with he she as a loyal friend or lover. However, That would never be true for me. My Breden and Mara share a hatred and Breden is exiled, and extremely pissed she menaced me to kill me. In a way I really consider that I MADE HER A SPY. It was my character hatred and actions what made her a enemy. And that’s awesome!. So each time you read a post for me. Please, understand I am talking IN CHARACTER AND ONLY TALKING ABOUT MY game universe. So don’t need to get angry or fixed my posts, fact that in my culture is one of the rude things you could do in fact In my country law i could denounce you for injuries and attack to my honor. No kidding.

Law of personal solipsism: you will never interpret, experience, or understand the world in the exact same way as someone else, therefore, it is their world at all times when conscious. Death of the author also means that canonically, the creator’s ideas upon writing their story or making their art don’t count, as its very nature as art means that it only exists through personal interpretation.
