How many of the random events did you get? That was one of the new systems I was rolling out, and I need to know if I have to tighten the frequency or not.
The ad-supported version is free, but it’s not available on Steam, which only has the ad-free version for sale.
I enjoyed the game. It “sounded” like Cataphrak. He writes in a style that suits this period well. Knowing going in it was going to be more of a single-event style piece, I was not surprised or disappointed by the length. Even knowing the general outlines of the history, it was interesting, as an American, to see how the war looks to a non-American. It definitely whetted my appetite for Lords. It was a show piece by a talented writer. Now, get back to work on the heavy stuff!
Not sure, but the only event I get between the start of the game and the end of the game (even when visiting the other 2 ports before hand and even taking some prizes) is the ship full of POWs which I can free (and let work for me). But I think that’s not a random event? Showed up in every one of my playthroughs.
Didn’t know there were random events - nice one! Any chance for a short overview? How many are there? (if its not a secret ^^)
Not sure if its a good idea to put the game on steam for 3.99 €, if one needs to use the “…but its free” card ^^
As a Canadian, our history focuses a lot on the land war, and it’s a little ironic to see how the American narrative is that of big scary Britain being stopped by plucky America, while the Canadian one is big scary America being stopped by one Guernseyman, one First Nations warchief, Laura Secord, and a bunch of half-trained militia.
Still, I find that Americans tend to focus most on the naval war, especially since the USN managed some genuinely impressive wins. Anglo-Canadian takes on the subject are pretty rare in popular media (O’Brien covered it, but I don’t think a lot of others have).
There’s about a dozen altogether, and they range from the relatively mundane to miniature chapters in their own right. I might consider upping the “encounter rate” on those in the next update.
I was always intending to make this a free release, but I don’t determine pricing. CoG put time and money into getting this ready for release, and how they choose to get return on investment is up to them.
Honestly, the War of 1812 is not really much of a topic in American history books. The casus belli does not seem very pressing, compared to the War of Independence, which preceded it, or the American Civil War, which followed it. We did not do all that well, with the capital being burned by marines, and our grand attack on Canada falling flat. To the extent we remember it, it is for the national anthem and the Battle of New Orleans, which technically took place after the war was over. And then there was a panic that nearly collapsed the country and sent a third of my state’s residents fleeing westward into the Ohio Valley to avoid their debts. Over all, not a period that tracks the story of America’s unchecked rise to greatness.
Personally, I think it ought to be covered more, not just because it was one of America’s first major wars of empire, but its leadup and execution also exposed a lot of the cracks within the early American political system, especially in the context of the “Founding Fathers”, who desperately need to be taken off their pedestals, especially given recent events.
Pls halp, how do I meet the slavers? I’ve met the smugglers a few times, but not the slavers…
EDIT: Well, speak of the devil, I got the slavers event, though I’m not sure what I did. Anyways, I took the money from Beauregard in exchange for leaving his ship alone. Judge me all you want, but I’m laughing straight to the bank, and I got a grand country estate (and achievement) out of it. Yolo.
“It was the only war the Yankees lost, except for Vietnam.” “And also, the Alamo!” “And the Bay of… ‘Ham’.” “The loser was America, the winner was ourselves.” “So join right in and gloat about, the War of 1812!”
First, apologies for necro-ing this thread, but it seems to be the most appropriate.
Foraker, despite – or perhaps because of – its shortness, is a fun game to play through. So much so, in fact, I’ve gotten almost all of the achievements except for one. So far as I can tell, however, it’s impossible.
One of the hidden 'cheevos requires you to battle the Delmarva before she’s ready. However, you have a maximum of 35 days to do so… and taking the quickest route takes 31 days just for Chapter One. I presume this is an oversight.
Hello all! I just got this game for Android, but it doesn’t have a tab for achievements listed like the other games I’ve played like this one. How do I know what the available achievements are, or are they not available in the way I’m playing? I haven’t started it yet, so will they show up as they’re earned? I’m fond of having the list of unearned achievements and trying to earn each one.
