Saint honestly confuses me a bit. Partially because I don’t feel like he’s being used enough in the script. He doesn’t feel like a brother to my bearers. He’s just kind of…there.
Well I’m just gonna say one thing that did happen. Aegon did beat the holy shit out of Saint during their first meeting so obviously that says alot about him.
But on a serious note, he doesn’t exactly trust Saint. I mean, a guy that happens to look like you comes out of nowhere with a photo of your mother after years on the run from the group that Saint is a part of? Yeah, nope doesn’t exactly fall to me as trustworthy at all. He probably was told to bring the picture in order to gain your trust but meh. As for Hades and Athena, these two pretty much are the only people that Aegon would ever consider to be his family since they did raise him but other than that, he doesn’t care at all about having family.
Damon tolerates Saint. Jaehaera doesn’t like him at all.
Same here. Except for that Nyx already sees Athena and Hades as her motherly/fatherly figures. And oh boy, she pity a lot of people. Aeson is an example. He was told that his reason to live was to give the bearer the other half of the essence, imagine that your whole existance is based on one sole person. And Saint. That guy who has too high hopes for Nyx. Nyx doesn’t want to reach his expectations, she sees it as a chore. She barerly knows him, he’s more of an aquaintance than a family member. That’s why she feels bad for him, because he has such foolish dreams of a loving sister. Nyx have grown pretty numb and feel indifferent for a lot of things, including family. She just let those thoughts slip out of her mind. All she wants to do is to sip some good ice tea be alone, eat pizza and watch some bad anime.
Saint IS pitiful but that’s probably what will make my Bearers warm up to him in the end. He’s got such a big mouth but he’s well meaning and he’s a good connection to have. Especially since he’d probably be motivated to find out more about our mother - I want to know the secrets dammit - I’m all up for an awkward brother.
You just basically described Aegon’s idea of a perfect night. Lol Nyx is definitely giving Calypso some competition here
Nyx:
Aegon:
Lmao! I just love how the gif makes Aegon actually consider giving Nyx a chance for a minute there.
So some of the Bearers are hitting on each other now?
Hey, I take offense to that entirely accurate description of me!
I’m honestly feeling so attacked right now.
I’m gonna shove this into my already too-long reply to @Chai from earlier because I love me some Saint! says the lapsed Catholic And also I write too freaking much.
Helena
Hmm, OC!Helena’s personality isn’t quite like Helena or even Vesper (despite their shared glorious manes of hair). She’s cautious without being emotionally unavailable the way Vesper is, and she can be happy and friendly without being overwhelming the way Helena is. I also wouldn’t quite say that she’s a hybrid of the two, so no, outside of the name, I don’t think the Helenas or the lookalikes have much in common.
And it’s ok if you haven’t seen Frozen, it’s only Helena’s favorite movie of all time, but…it’s fine…it’s fine…she’s fine… It’s fine.
loljk, I don’t think you have to see Frozen to notice how much Disney movies would have had an impact on Helena. After all, she believes in love at first sight, believes that being kind and loving and trusting are the most important things in her life, and she sings at animals.
Another little fun fact: her Disney prince crush was Hercules followed very closely by Kristoff (because of course) and yes, Alice hated it but Lena was in love, can’t you see that?
And Aeson('s heroic persona that he puts on for Olympus) definitely reminds her of Herc, but she’s ignoring the bits where he’s distrustful of the gods.
Man, it just hit me how she must also be conflating Disney!Zeus with the real thing. It explains quite a bit, lol.
This poor girl has issues, lol.
But on the topic of Saint, this girl loves him. I think that much is obvious. She would try her damned hardest to be the best damn big sister and as an irl big sister that shit sounds exhausting, so kudos to her efforts.
Alexander
Ooh, tell me who you had in mind for Alex! I could always use more models to be inspired by!
Wait, I swear it makes sense!
See, Alex is an arrogant, egotistical prick who thinks he’s better than anyone else and of my three Bearers is easily the most guarded and detached. All of this is because every other time he’s gotten emotionally attached they either died, abandoned him, or disappeared altogether and that’s really gonna fuck up a kid. As a result, has never been (let himself) be close enough to anyone to have ever been intimate. And not just physically, but emotionally. Except for Benji, he’s never really had a friend, and even his friendship with Benji was superficial at best. He’s always been an arrogant prick, ever since he found out the other kindergartners didn’t know what the periodic table was, let alone have it memorized–Yeah, Athena really did a number on him–so he was never good at associating with his peers.
However, he also has to be the Best™ at everything, and that means being more capable than Cally, more respected than Aeson, smarter than Santi, more angry than Sage? and if that means being sluttier than Donny, then so be it! His level of motivation would almost be inspirational if it weren’t entirely motivated by jealousy and spite.
Of course this means he lies his ass off about that kind of thing because he gets really antsy about getting close to anyone because what if they die I hate the world, yup, that’s the only reason…
Re: Saint.
Oh…oh hohoho, Alex’s opinions on Saint are…complicated.
He’s envious of his perception of their parents preference of him, of his seeming popularity (with the people that matter–the ones Alex is directly competing against to assert his dominance) "How dare they not love me, me, the universe. Just where do you think you live you, little blip on the cosmic timeline?? SPOILER ALERT: ME. (Such a charmer…it’s a wonder he’s still a virgin. ), as a result Alex kinda loathes Saint.
Until of course he starts learning more about Saint’s likely depressing-as-hell childhood, in which case, the smallest, teeniest, tiniest speck of pity and empathy makes it through and plants itself into Alex’s black, withered heart. And considering that Alex’s heart has shrunk to the size of tardigrade, it induces a pretty significant change.
Loathes Saint → [insert pity] → Mildly Tolerates Saint
But yeah, holy shit, Saint would…I’m sure he wouldn’t mildly tolerate Alex back.
But if he’s that desperate for love and affection then I can actually see it being the start of a horrifying codependent relationship.
Vesper
Vess actually loves being the center of attention, and her being a musician only gave her another skillset to use to draw attention to herself. So singing and performing in front of others is like the opposite of a problem for her, lol.
You know, I actually find it difficult to tell who’s the most emotionally closed off of my Bearers, because they each excel in a different area of ignoring their feelings. Helena ignores negative thoughts, Alex denies positive thinking when it doesn’t relate to himself, but Vess doesn’t actually deny her feelings, she just kinda…feels detached from her emotions for a while? Like she can’t quite access them. I suppose the term is that she suffers from disassociative episodes and it greatly affects her relationships.
All because upon learning that she’s the Bearer, she’s not certain if people actually like Vesper for being Vesper, or are attracted to the Essence. It’s why she gets more and more physically reckless as time goes on because it gets to the point where physical reactions are the only things she feels without issue. So she’s gonna get real good at punching things and probably also fucking things (hey Donny, whatchu doin’? You up for a little love triangle?).
Re: Saint
She’s distrustful of him, as she is of everyone else on Olympus, and because of her issues explained above, she kind of…never really gets better, in terms of developing relationships.
So I’m sure she’ll be a disappointment in comparison to the mental image of a sister that Saint has built up in his mind.
If, however, she learns of Saint’s pitiful childhood, Vess may grow to pity him and show him more affection than others in the friendgroup, but it might be too little too late for Saint. I’m not sure. I guess we’ll just have to see.

So some of the Bearers are hitting on each other now?
Just Greek gods being Greek gods.

I’m honestly feeling so attacked right now.
Yeah I’m sorry about that but I just know you’d do it though.
Having never had much in the way of family aside from Aunt Alice and Uncle Henry, Evander sees any brotherhood with Saint as something of a technicality. He won’t deny that they have the same mother and father, but, lacking the years of continual fraternal bonds, Saint seems to be more of an awkward acquaintance than anything. When they first properly met each other (Evander used the Mirror of the Red Sea to evade capture), his first instinct was to adopt a defensive posture; he simply wanted to leave, but was willing to attack if it came to it. He was skeptical about him being siblings, but the fact that Saint actually tried talking with him made things easier to swallow.
I feel this also ties into his opinion towards the inhabitants of Olympus that aren’t the gods. He still feels like a stranger in a strange land, but has more loyalty towards them than, say, Zeus. Even if he didn’t see Saint as a brother, he would still fight for him just the same.

Evander
I KNEW THERE WAS ANOTHER EVANDER!
Yep! And he tries to be a good person, although his morality doesn’t always match those of the gods.
As far as Dagon’s concerned, Saint is a tolerably friendly sort who put him on the path to greater power. Given some leisure, however, Dagon would probably begin resenting the fact that Saint was the one who got a life free of murder attempts, long-term friends, some traces of family, and french fries for lunch. (Athena’s idea of dessert is kale chips.)

Athena’s idea of dessert is kale chips.
I ACCEPT THIS AS CANON.
Frick my damn life, I just forgot to answer @chai’s other question:

Are there any songs you associate with characters from the game or your Bearers? I’ve been listening to a playlist while writing to generate some inspiration and I couldn’t help but wonder.
I’m really bad at making playlists (I mean, how the hell do people just…choose the one song from a band/singer? I’m sitting here putting an entire album on playlists, ffs), and oddly enough the only Bearer who actually…has songs that remind of them(?) is Vess…and it’s a lot of repeat musicians, lol.
But anyway, this is probably the most Vess song to ever Vess in the history of Vess.
Edit: So upon further reflection…almost all of Metric’s songs can describe Vess.
Holy crap, just finished reading the entire thread. Now to re-play CotG. I can’t even remember my own characters.
[gasp] Do iiiiiiiiit, then come back and tell us all about the Bearers you plan to play!
